We are referring to a new exclusion on our VIP rewards.  The "free" money we get from using our TRU credit cards.

BTW, just placed an order online successfully for UCS Slave I using $105 in rewards that I created just now (mine are normally issued at $120).  I clicked on the exclusions for mine and didn't see LEGO mentioned. Wonder if it makes any difference when my latest round of points banking began?  I last had one created in May.

They had kind of started to make up for excluding LEGO from their 15% and 20% coupons by having certain themes on sale for 20% each week.  What I miss, in particular, are the days of discount gift cards getting up into the double digits.  Now I'm just happy if it's enough to negate the sales tax.

Oups, sorry. I used $200 against my lego purchase in store. That was this past Thursday 7/20. Had no issue.

  • Those clearance stickers probably have a small exclusion list on them that includes LEGO Construction Sets.

  • Gotta love it when the manager of the local TRU calls you and asks if you want all the leftovers from the BB-8 build....

  • I know it's a hassle but you need to pre-calculate your purchases when applying multiple discounts before heading to the register. More often than not, the cashier will screw up the series of button p

That is because the lego exclusion began with auto-generated rewards Friday 7/21/2017. Not sure if the "excludes lego" appears on "create a reward" but will find out 8/1/2017.

Not 100% sure this is what you are looking for, but today (7/23) there was no wording regarding LEGO exclusions on the site itself (nor in the T&Cs), only once you go to print the Rewards coupon does this show up (sorry, unable to rotate picture on iOS Chrome):

Interesting.  If I'm reading correctly, the restriction on 'LEGO Hard to Find' is not confined to using your Rewards... also includes TRUTH...

10% Off Thursday:  Offer valid in store only. 10% off your single receipt in-store purchase of in-stock merchandise charged to your "R"Us Credit Card on Thursdays through 10/5/17. Excludes Gift Cards, laptops, netbooks, tablets, video game hardware American Girl Truly Me, American Girl WellieWishers, Apple iPad & iPod, Build-A-Bear, Claire’s, Converse Clothing & Shoes, Itzy Ritzy Shoes, LEGO Hard to Find, Nike Apparel, Ugg shoes, SquareTrade Protection Plans, phone orders, Special Orders, all fees and shipping. Not valid on prior purchases. Cannot be combined with account opening discount coupon. Offer is subject to change; value is forfeited if item is returned. See a Team Member or click here for details.

Hopefully this move on ToysRUs' part to prevent the use of rewards on "LEGO Construction Sets" will have an inverse reaction and bring back the old days of the Colored tag sales.

Ever since the inception of the coupon exclusions for LEGO I rarely set foot in my local TRU. The only times I go now is for my kids so they can spend their xmas and birthday money and even then I show them the fine art of pming and coupons and do my best to prevent them paying TRU's inflated prices.

Redeemed $400 of rewards yesterday at two separate TRU stores and only lego's. No problem.

Did it again today with remaining $140 and all lego's again. No problem.

So far so good. Does not mean it's not going to change next week.

Actually, I made a big judgment mistake. I really apologize for this.

The day after I wrote the post above I noticed on my second TRU receipt that only $59.98 of my $200 reward was actually redeemed.

I did not buy only Lego's as I thought and mentioned before. There were 2 power rangers stuffs in there and sure enough that's where the reward went to.

The strange thing though is that the next day I redeemed $140 on all Lego's, at the same store, and it went through, no issue and this time for real. No mistake.

It is real, guys...It is happening. I went back to that store yesterday and had to negotiate to get a merchandise credit for the reward I lost. It worked for that time.

The rule is certainly brand new for the stores it is not yet 100% enforced but the store managers are aware of it and they are working towards enforcing it.

For now they are nice enough to force the redeem or give lost reward back in the form of a merchandise credit.

However, this is not going to last for long.

I'll confirm that I went to TRU yesterday to cash in all my rewards ($30 worth, yeah, I'm small time here) and the printout on the rewards certificate listed "LEGO Construction Sets" as one of the exclusions. However, I was able to use the certificate at the Customer Service desk with no workarounds or issues that I could see. Clearly the new rule is being set up but it isn't fully distributed or enforced at the POS level. If you have rewards money  in the bank, I suggest cashing out soon, or using it for Dimensions sets ;)

I always wondered is dimensions not in included in the Lego exclusions at TRU? Is it in its own video game category? I always assumed Lego is Lego so it would still be excluded.

YMMV, but I've had it treated as an electronics/games purchase at both TRU and Target in the past.

At Amazon, it's considered video games. I'm gated from selling LEGO on Amazon but I can sell Dimensions.

What category? "Collectible, used condition"?

My experience has been it is considered electronics.
If there is a gwp, Dimensions won't trigger the register to give you the promo for free. Has to be manager override.

I was wondering today... what with all the Walmart clearance going on right now... my Toys R Us has plenty of two-year-old junk on the shelves taking up too much space... how do they have room for all the new sets coming out this month?  So I stopped in and found... they don't ;)  Not much to get excited about, tho... I picked up some of the smaller Bionicles.  With partial pay and a gift card, got 11 Bionicles out the door for $5.55 ea ... piled on $20 in rewards to make them about $3.75 ea.

Not a shocker that TRU needs to take notes from Target and WM on how to properly price clearance.

Did you create rewards while there or had you created them prior to the TRU big mistake.

Created the reward shortly after hearing about the new exclusion... had it loaded in my phone ready to go.  Gave it to the cashier... no problem... no over-ride needed... maybe works better on clearance items?
