Star Wars May the 4th Lego Specials Start Tonight

I don't remember the exact percentage discounts available, but in hindsight some of these were great deals from last year.  The AT-AT, Snowspeeder, MTT, B-wing, Grievous Wheelbike, and Droid Gunship were all on sale in conjunction with the Yularen offer so you could score them at a really nice discount.  Just one year later those would have all been pretty solid investments.

The Space Slug set is only available if you receive an invitation to the VIP event. Each store only has about 28 slots and they've likely been filled already.

The new release might be the new Minecraft The Village exclusive.

I cannot imagine that they would produce just limited amount of Space Slugs only for invited people. I expect that this mini-set will be available also during further days for all people.

And mainly, this mini-set is not enough compensation for discounts, which can we enjoyed last years.

I'm not sure about that, the employee I've talked to who signed me up said they are only getting 28. He is making sure to tell everyone that if they bring a guest, they will not be able to get a copy of the set. The employee was a little unhappy because it means that they won't be able to get one.

A little off topic, but I just found a store that had about 8 MTT's at RRP. I'm wondering if I should stop back there?

This was 2014's:

I can't remember all that was on sale last year, but I don't think At-At's were part of the Shop at home sale.  They were around 80.00 at target..

I just tried to do a search, and I can't seem to locate what thread the may the 4th deals were on.  I remember it was a good thread though.  When the clock turned, lego's deals were seen as a bust to many, but by morning, target, walmart and amazon had some really good deals on sets like At-At's and cantinas.

I think the only really good deal was the MTT, but I passed on it.  If anyone knows that thread, i'd like to browse through it again, to kind of arm myself for this year.

I think you are wrong.  They often produce limited quantity sets.  The idea of the special invite is to be a worthy customer or LEGO contributor.  Sometimes, it's just luck or asking the right person, but this set will be limited like the dozens of previously released store and convention sets and figures.

They are $89.99, right?  At that price plus tax you aren't making anything yet with the current $119 FBA price, but the question is do you believe this set will take off at some point and how long do you plan to hold them?  I might pass on those considering they were readily available from TRU at a discount and the Shop at Home discount from last year was like 20% plus a free Yularen.  You may be better off using that money elsewhere.

Most people who get banned blow past their purchase limits or exceed promo purchases.  They also use multiple accounts and use other questionable tactics.  I think the policy of buying one to build and one to save has been a safe policy for many LEGO fans.

I understand the case studies for how people have been banned by LEGO, but I'm curious how you become a worthy customer to receive a special invite to a LEGO store event such as this.  Is it based on purchase volume, number of trips to the store, or luck of the draw?

It is my belief that this particular promotion was geared towards LEGO contributors and LUG members, with the remaining tickets given away by store managers at their discretion.  We had to go through the LEGO Ambassador program to get ours, but while I was picking mine up, the store manager was gracious enough to give my wife one, stating she would not have been allowed in the store that morning without one.  Jeff did not get one for his wife, so she has to sit in the car.  LOL.

The set is rumored to be limited to 3,500 copies worldwide.  It will only be available for the 1 hour event.

Hopefully it comes in a little box like the recent SDCC and Celebration sets, not a polybag.

We've (our LUG) also heard that any left of the 28 per store are to be immediately shipped back to corporate. They've never done an event like this, so it should be interesting.

Yes, I am curious to see what the deal is.   Is it some kind of highly collectible set or a cheesy polybag.

It's a great way to reward the biggest fans I think. A way to get a truly fun collectable item on a special day.

Mine wil go into my secret Lego treasure stash. For my kids to decide what to do with in 25 years :-)

Pretty much the truth, unless someone wants to offer me $10,000 right now for the pass.  :money:
