General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by njseale,

So I have a situation I am actually unsure what to do. I had a buyer inquire about an item asking some kind of dumb questions. Next day he sends me a message saying he wants to buy item, but can't because he has 2 strikes against him(I have my ebay set to block buyers with 2 or more unpaid transactions in a year.) He says he wants to pay today. Buyer has 3 total feedbacks, but one is a "negative" positive claiming him as a deadbeat buyer. The item is kind of expensive, $800. Should I let him buy it or not. I am 50/50 at this point.

Hi, I'm trying to buy some power functions parts, specially the 8884 IR receiver, but Lego LEGO Shop at Home doesn't allow me to buy in the quantities that I need. Because I don't live in the US, Lego education doesn't ship to me. Do you know any stores that sell the power functions line without restrictions in their quantities and at reasonable prices? Regards, Brickbr

I guess if you sell enough you're bound to get burned eventually. I've been reading this forum with the intermittent reports of problems with ebay buyers and felt fortunate I have yet to be scammed. But today is my turn and now I turn to the good people of this forum for some needed advice about how to proceed with my first dishonest buyer. I sold a minifigure on ebay 4 month ago (12 bucks plus shipping) shipped item off and tracking confirmed delivery a few days later to a confirmed address. Today I get an email from paypal that they buyer is disputing the transaction stating it was an unauthorized charge. Pay pal wants proof the transaction was a…

  4. I've just had a look at 21109 & 21110, the Exo suit and Research Lab. Both are OOS in the UK LEGO Shop at Home with Sept shipping dates. So if I can order them now, will I still get this months polybag, the mini Mini or next months when they come back into stock?

Do you usually find good deals at the lego stores? The one closest to me is about an hour and a half away and I am wondering if if it is worth it to make the trip.

  6. Tried searching and came up with zilch, so here goes. Have several extra large and small instruction manuals (as well as some Nintendo NES game manuals ) and wondering the best way to ship them. The USPS cardboard envelopes (not sure of the name) are priority mail and seem expensive for manuals that only cost a few bucks. So how would you fine gentlemen go about shipping them in an acceptable and economic way? Thanks in advance for the advice.

  7. Mailing off my first sale on eBay today. Should I insure it? The item is worth $200. The address is confirmed and I'll get tracking number of course. I'm new to this so am wondering what people think about insuring the items they sell on eBay if they are higher dollar amounts... I've read some interesting posts on how to save costs with an eBay business. Curious to know if people choose to save costs by not insuring or consider it a necessity. Thanks for your input!

  8. I just sold a Lego Attack of the Wargs. BNIB. I've been selling for 11 years with 379 100% feedbacks and no negative feedbacks. I bought it new, took pictures of it to sell on Ebay, packaged it well. This was a brand new unopened item. The buyer opens a case with ebay (he has feedback of 11) and says, "The box was already opened. The instructions for this set were in the box but the Legos included were not this set. As well, there was a World of Warcraft action figure set included...My son is very upset that what he thought he was receiving was not at all what you promised." I've never owned a World of Warcraft action figure! How will Ebay handl…

  9. This is my 3rd time selling an item on eBay, everything was simple until now. I shipped the item on July 9th, from Mexico to Netherlands, according to the tracking number it arrived on July 18th to NLAMSA Customs (NL = Netherlands AM = Amsterdam SA = Schiphol Airport), but it has been sitting there for a while (4 bussiness days and counting). Idk what to do, fortunately my client has 704 score, so he's more experienced than I, but i'm kind of panicking right now.

  10. Howdy, I'm in the process of selling a lot of lego in bulk ( ~7 kilo) and i'm wondering if there are any colors that I should leave out? (Brown, darkgrey, transparant,...?)

  11. Ok gang, I need a little input here. I recently opened a store on bricklink and received an offer this morning from a buyer. They want to purchase 10 of my 6864 batmobile and two face chase sets as a bulk order. They offered to pay with a personal check, and are wiling to wait for it to clear before I ship. Total of the check will be $700 plus exact shipping. They offered to do the deal outside of bricklink and paypal to save me some fees. My question is this...once I receive and deposit the check, and once it clears the banks, I am safe to ship the goods, right? Is there any way the buyer can scam me once the check clears? With the recent talk on the forums about some…

  12. So I ordered the new mini and the fedex tracking shows it was delivered yesterday. Says left at front door sig not required. I have not contacted lego or fedex yet. If it was stolen off my porch I don't think they are liable anyways. I can dispute the charge on my cc but that could get me banned from LEGO Shop at Home. Anyone dealt with this before? I have had dozens of legos shipped to the house. Seems unlikely that one small box got stolen but I guess it's possible. I live in a nice area in North Raleigh. If it was stolen do I have any options? I'll have everything shipped to my office from now on.

I'm going to take a few moments to take a page out of my co-worker's book. He is a blunt man, and generally if something is wrong in the office, he sends out an email and copies everyone on it calling out whatever is being done (like not filling the coffee pot) and whoever is doing it. Not the best way to go about things, but results are there. He signs them "Crotchety Old Man" (hes 29) So here is my Crotchety Old man Post: A few things I want to put out there. These are facts IMO (clashes I know) that some people should know. I think people throw around silly numbers and comparisons way too much. You can say "Well we are free to think this - its not hur…

  15. They bought my 7888 within a few hours of it being listed, then they ignored three emails and didn't pay until I opened a nonpaying bidder case, then they sent me an extremely fishy email and I googled their Ebay username after that and found that they have a habit of saying packages didn't arrive some people say "just use signature confirmation and they go away when you tell them who signed for it" and others are like "they went straight to paypal to chargeback the payment" so now i'm wondering if I should just cancel this sale and wait for a new buyer or go out of pocket for extra shipping coverage. seeing the way that buyers are treated by ebay though…

    Started by Guest,

I sold a 4203. The buyer sent me a note asking about a "slice that runs halfway across the bottom flat side of the box". Having bought this a long time ago at WM on clearance and it being boxed since then I asked for a picture of the issue. He sent a picture showing this. In his own words he said " It's kinda hard to tell, but it doesn't look like it pierced through all the way to the inside of the box. Almost almost, but not quite. I think." Seeing the picture it seems someone may have used a blade to open up the Lego case to stock it originally. It does not look pierced. Having it in hand he should know if it is or isn't pierced. Anyway in my listings I always state... …

  17. Started by Silburned,

I've gotten back in the game over the last month and have been stocking up and getting ready to sell. Last night I inventoried my boxed sets and got them priced in my BL store. Once I get the open sets verified I will list those and open the store. Then the tedious task of inventory and listing loose parts. Sadly my BL inventory was wiped out because of 180+ days of inactivity. My wife asked what I plan on doing with the money I get. I think she thinks that this is a one off deal. What I would really like to do is get a nice streamline store going. Nothing crazy but something fun to occupy my down time. My inventory is all over the place as it was mostly sets…

I'm considering opening a Bill Me Later account to take advantage of the current promotion running where you get $10 ebay bucks credit and 50% more in ebay bucks on that purchase. I would pay it off immediately so this is only to take advantage of the promotion. A few questions for anyone that has used Bill Me Later before. Is this deal a good one or do they offer better? What is your experience with BML? Do you close your account after paying it off or do you leave it open? Any potential pitfalls to avoid? Thanks.

Hello, new guy here. I've been a lurker and I registered a while back but haven't really been active. I had luck with one set, Cloud Cuckoo. I parted it out and sold it (a single set) on eBay. My goal is to slowly (very slowly) turn $300-400 into a full-fledged business. How can I do this? I have full-time availability. Here are my questions: What is the research process for picking a set? That is, do I pick a random set and part it all out on paper, or is there a way to narrow down my selections first to say, 5 or 10 sets and do the math from there? How do I part out a set? My thinking is each minifig separately plus the set pieces. Maybe it'd be better to …

  21. I came across a good deal on four Sealed Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets (2002) Sets and was wondering if there would be any benefit in holding onto them for a bit longer. Another question do you think it would be better to sell them separately or in a lot together? The Four sets are , 4726 - Quidditch Practice (Sealed) 4729 - Dumbledore's Office (Sealed) 4731 - Dobby's Release (Sealed) 4735 - Slytherin (Sealed) Thanks,

  22. I am looking to make several orders next month and was wondering the best options to buy and if Lego will flag me for making more than 1 order a day or one every day for a couple of weeks. I was planning on picking up the T1, Sopwith, Horizen, Pet shop, and at least one mini cooper. Have any of you made multiple orders in one day?

  23. So, which of you lives in Sweden and call's his wife "the old bag?" http://www.thelocal.se/20140504/swede-puts-lego-up-for-sale-to-save-marriage Edit: maybe this better falls under, "You might be a LEGO investor if..." thread

  24. What is your answer when in the post office ask about what is in the box? Im a little curious about the answer you can give me!!! In my first sell i answer ( its a lego set) but i want to know if its fine to say that? What did you say? Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  25. I received the email below from Amazon today. I'm sure those of you who sell on Amazon will also receive this email, but in case you somehow missed it, or were thinking about selling on Amazon, here it is. Bulletpoint #2 pretty much rules me out (I just don't sell that much), which is too bad, as I was planning on ramping up for the holidays on Amazon. I pretty much just have ebay and CL now. Hello from Amazon Services, To maintain a great customer experience this holiday season, we are announcing the holiday selling guidelines for the Toys & Games store. Effective November 18, 2014, only sellers who meet the following criteria will be eligible to se…
