General Buying & Selling

Overall discussion on the buying and selling of LEGO

  1. Started by hepcatpunk,

May be purchasing a used, partially built Eiffel Tower. I already know it's missing the baseplates---are there other key pieces I should be looking out for that may end up costing me some $ tryig to buy off Bricklink?

Hey all, I'm sure nearly all of you have had to deal with taping up your shipping boxes when mailing sets off to customers. I've reached a stage where I'm tired of wrestling with those disposable red dispensers from Staples and would like to purchase something more professional. I'm looking for recommendations, advice, pros, cons, loves, hates. Thank you!

Hey folks! I'm relatively new here and have, up to this point, just been selling complete new and used sets. It's been going okay, but I think I'm ready to get serious about parting out some of my sets. I hope I'm posting this in the right spot, but I figured I'd start a thread which is a bit of a Q&A for Newbie Parter-Outers like myself. I've read quite a few threads (on Brickpicker) and articles, but I have a few extra questions that weren't addressed. A few questions I have to begin with: 1) New vs Used (Bricklink) - I'm seeing where it's around a 20-30% difference in Part-out value when you specify whether your pieces are new or used. Now, obviously "New" wou…

  4. At Shopko.com they are currently running a BOGO 50% sale. Use coupon code addcolor10 to get an additional 10.00 off your order. While their selection is limited and they don't allow you to double up on some sets they do have some of the newer sets at msrp or a bit lower. It is advertised on the website that a person gets free shipping on orders above 75.00 but through the website I haven't gotten it to work and haven't called them yet to see what the deal is with that. Happy Hunting!

  5. Trying to stay calm... How do you guys handle normal shelf wear on products you sell? Just annoying dealing with buyers sometimes... Do you just not sell anything unless its Mint? Just sent a guy a JP with normal shelf wear, which was in my description and I know the truth is that he is having buyer's remorse. I would have rated his box at an 7.5 if Mint is a 9 and 10 is impossible. Just frustrated a bit. Looking for advice and guidance moving forward so I don't have hiccups during Christmas.

  6. Ok gang, I need a little input here. I recently opened a store on bricklink and received an offer this morning from a buyer. They want to purchase 10 of my 6864 batmobile and two face chase sets as a bulk order. They offered to pay with a personal check, and are wiling to wait for it to clear before I ship. Total of the check will be $700 plus exact shipping. They offered to do the deal outside of bricklink and paypal to save me some fees. My question is this...once I receive and deposit the check, and once it clears the banks, I am safe to ship the goods, right? Is there any way the buyer can scam me once the check clears? With the recent talk on the forums about some…

I recently found an add on Craigslist and had about $400 to spend. I believe I hit the motherlode! It is about 50lbs and they were all sorted by color. I looked up a couple of the set numbers and was able to find instructions online and so far the sets are complete. The most interesting one is what looks to be a complete train set with a lot of track which was not shown on the pictures! I think the hardest part is going to be seperating everything but it is enough to warrant several bins/drawers. Does $400 seem reasonable for this lot? Its crazy how many pieces came with it including tons of 6X6, 6X8 and 6X10 plates, there are also several 6X12s. I cant wait to have some …

More and more, I miss out on great deals as I do not have Amazon Prime (I think it is not possible yet for the Netherlands). I was wondering what the experiences are of the people that do have it and if it is recommended. Next to this, it would be nice to have a thread to track changes to the proposition. I am sorry if this thread already exists, but I could not find it.

Hi BPs, I have a collection of MISB legos that I've collected over the period of around 10 years. Everything is in great shape, sans maybe a few boxes that have dents or dings. I was very selective and usually had a dented box shipped back to LSAH and returned for a good one. Ideally, I'd like to have msrp (I already paid 6% sales tax, which I would'nt be charging for. I realize thats not easy, because someone with a large wallet will need to put up $, and thats why I'm willing to let it go for msrp, currently. I realize there are some good sets and some sets that may take a bit longer to sell, but overall, I think there is decent money to be made. I'd be…

Hello, digging for more information to reaffirm and add a little to what I saw in an older thread. So I bought a used Grand Emporium from a guy today and the thing was covered in a couple years worth of dust and dirt. No instructions or box. It was completely built though and I compared it to mine and the thing appeared 100% complete. I wanted to clean it so I submerged it in water and started pulling the bricks apart. It was way easier in my head to pull the whole set apart than reality, lol. I got tired of trying to pull apart every little piece so I now I have a mess of top two floors looking like a bomb exploded with the base level sort of there and intact. For …

  14. I have an 8 year old girl who loves Lego's. Due to the cost of Lego's of it, she usually builds whatever I can get on clearance. Most times the sets aren't really what a little girl likes. I am curious what sets I could buy that once opened I could recover 75% or more of the cost within six months to a year. For example today I bought the friends riding camp for $93 at TRU. Anyone have any advice for a dad looking to provide his daughter with something better than galaxy squad stuff? I clearly don't expect anything to be a sure thing.

Got the circular in mail today---BOGO 50% off on LEGO starting tomorrow. Doesn't include clearance. Not sure if there will be too many deals to be had given some of their prices, but you never know. Olivia's House and some others are usually priced below retail.

I sold a 4203. The buyer sent me a note asking about a "slice that runs halfway across the bottom flat side of the box". Having bought this a long time ago at WM on clearance and it being boxed since then I asked for a picture of the issue. He sent a picture showing this. In his own words he said " It's kinda hard to tell, but it doesn't look like it pierced through all the way to the inside of the box. Almost almost, but not quite. I think." Seeing the picture it seems someone may have used a blade to open up the Lego case to stock it originally. It does not look pierced. Having it in hand he should know if it is or isn't pierced. Anyway in my listings I always state... …

  17. I rarely ask for advice on buying Lego, but today I got $75 worth of rewards Coupons from Toys R Us, And they are 3-$15, and 3-$10 ones. They say Valid in store or online through 5/31/13 and I can use them all at one time, or split them up. Now some may say how did I get so much, well I spent a few grand a while back, when I got 20 Friends 3185, etc. Now I could get 2 of the 8110 buy one get one half price and use the $75 coupon, so get both for $260.00, or 4 Vampires Castle for $76.00 each, Or 4 Helm's Deep for $92 each any other suggestions. I just got in an order from FAO Schwarz for 22 Grand Emporiums. Upon pulling them out of the LEGO boxes (2 per box), I feel like 15 of the 22 are not acceptable. They either have crushed corners, large creases in the box (random places), or even small incisions. Am I being too picky? What is your standard? Normally, the actual set box itself holds up quite well when shipped in LEGO boxes, but these didn't. I am on the phone with FAO now to get the damaged items exchanged, but what a hassle. How do you handle this personally?

With the Monster Fighter series being waved out at walmart I wonder when the next price drop on the clearances will be? Everything is around 30% off right now. Will they move them down within the next week, and to what amount? What are your expectations and past experiences?

Hi all, I've bought another used lot of lego and after sorting it all and putting the minifigures together, I went about figuring out what sets they came from. Now I've got a long list of lego sets to put back together, but the problem is that these are all older sets (think 1990's-2002) and the manuals didn't have an inventory list at the end of them. Do you know of a good website that provides a 'printable' list of inventory pieces? I'm currently just using toysperiod, but I can't print it or else it would be 15 pages alone for each sets' inventory!! Not actually sure this exists, but it would sure be a huge time saver!

  23. A buyer left this feedback: Toys is new, but some box have bug. I don't know what kind of bug and why there was bug. or if there is bug at all. The toys are brand new sealed. I am a small ebay seller (with around 150 positive feedback). Even though this person gives me a positive feedback, but a negative comment. I am afraid it will affect future buyers to buy from me. What can I do about it?

Paging Legodog who I bet will know... Recently joined the B&****** club to get the 10% off discount in store. Two questions. - I got a 20% off coupon in my inbox. It doesn't seem to work for Lego online, even though they are not expressly excluded on the coupon. Will it work in a brick and mortar store? Or will it not work in store either? - If it does work, do you get the 10% as well with your membership, or will it do the 20% only? Guessing the latter. Thanks if anyone knows.
