Technic Sets

Discussion for investing and collecting Technic themed sets.

I actually prefer the Speed Champions one. This seems a bit awkward and the proportions are off.

So I stopped by a small Walmart this morning to pick up a site to store order. Check out the uber small Lego section, and there are two 42000 Grand Prix Racers on the shelf. No shelf tag, and they didn't scan. Customer service checked and they were MSRP. I have never seen Technic in store there, or any Walmart's that I can recall. What gives? Is this new?

Found a couple decent used technic deals on Craig's recently...and decided to try building--instead of my usual standard inventory using bricklink. Well that...and I didn't want to count out a hundreds of tiny parts...many that needed to be measured! So....the biggest were the 2 super cars. The black and the red. The black wasn't too hard...but took about 6 hours. I loved it...and the family thought it was great...so we did the red one. My moly! This is the hardest and most rewarding build of any hobby type thing I have ever done. I am a 38 year old manufacturing engineer with 20 years of industrial automation and robot experience. This build took me a good 10 …

In Quacs Excellent Technic Articles, he went over how well construction sets do: http://community.brickpicker.com/blog/4/entry-304-lego-technic-investments-on-the-fast-track-or-in-the-shop-part-2/ He also went over this set. I am looking at getting more into the technic theme. I wanted to get some other opinions on the set. It is already doing pretty well on Ebay.

If I have around $400 budget, which one of the followings would most likely has bigger return in a long run? 2 x Unimog U400 2 x Mobile Crane MKII or 1 x Unimog plus 1 Mobile Crane MKII or should I just spend the budget on the Haunted House + Tower Bridge instead? What do you guys think?

I have one of these stored up for investment, I am thinking of grabbing a few more since I can get them for a decent price at $105. This isn't a big time technic set but it it is still a very large truck with PF included, does anyone have any thoughts on how it will perform? I haven't tracked a lot of these technic sets and since it isn't a piece of standard machinery like a crane or backhoe, I am not sure how to check out comps for it.

What are your tips for lego technic investments? Is it unique pieces? Or do the cars outperform everything else? My understanding from poking around a bit is that technic underperforms compared to the median CAGR for lego as a whole, but I love technic, so I want to make the most of it

Well, this one caught me by surprise. If anything just for the simple fact it is a Technic set and I haven't seen any reviews on the 2013 ones save for maybe one or two others. Come on, it's Technic. Why is no one reviewing these?! Then again, I don't see these in store anywhere come to think of it. Here is the link. Name: Mobile Crane MK II Number: 42009 Pieces: 2,606 Retail: US - $219.99, CAN - $249, AUS - $279.99, UK -

  18. I am thinking about getting into technics for building and not for reselling. I wanted to get to get into technics mostly for learning and building a RC tank(s). 1) I think the best set to get to start out is the out of print Lego Technic 8043 Excavator for the tracks and RC components. 2) Lego Technic 4X4 Crawler 9398 - tons of motors but many usable pieces 3) Lego Technic Unimog U400 8110 - good mixture of pieces Considering the cost, where do you think i should begin learning about technics and my goal. Thanks for any help

For those of you that might want to pick up one super cool LEGO set, that is going to be retired (Even said so by LEGO themselves), I would recommend trying to pick them up at retail price from one of these retailers below. You can't get it on LEGO S@H anymore, so before you regret missing out on this set, pick one up now. BUY FROM TARGET FOR $199.99 with FREE SHIPPING Grab them from eBay from two vendors, both $199 with Free Shipping and Buy it Now! eBay Item #1 eBay Item #2 SOLD OUT at Walmart, LEGO Shop and Barnes and Noble

    Coming Jan 1, 2021 supposedly.

  21. After reading the review form OrcKing's thread, I was wondering if Unimog 8110 was still an interesting choice from an investment standpoint as it will no longer be the largest Technic set out there once 42009 is released. Besides being the current largest Technic set out there, is there another reason why Unimog can be a good investment? Do large Technic sets appreciate well over time? I guess that being a licensed Mercedes Benz set also kicks the value up a little bit. Thoughts?

42042 - Technic Crawler Crane - released in USA in Aug 2015; 1401 pcs, power functions included. RRP US$149.99. ToysRUs lists it as an "exclusive" but is widely available everywhere online. Seems frequently discounted in the $115 - $126 range. Walmart.com has it now around $116 = 23% off (Sep 2016). Overshadowed by it's big brother in 2015 - the 42043 Mercedes AROCS - could this set take an early exit (or at least a "normal" 2-year exit) and be a big winner in 2018? Worth picking up at $110? ... or better to wait for a better deal?

I came across this today and had to share it here. It is a stunning model of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider which not only looks amazing, it has a lot of power functions. I have never seen this car before seeing the Lego model, and it is most beautiful technic race car that I have ever seen. I would love to buy this but I just don't have the time to get all the pieces required. At some point I will formulate a letter and send it off to Lego in hopes they will contact this person and make it for everyone. Alfa Romeo 4C Spider
