Technic Sets

Discussion for investing and collecting Technic themed sets.

  1. Started by Val-E,

I actually prefer the Speed Champions one. This seems a bit awkward and the proportions are off.

What are your tips for lego technic investments? Is it unique pieces? Or do the cars outperform everything else? My understanding from poking around a bit is that technic underperforms compared to the median CAGR for lego as a whole, but I love technic, so I want to make the most of it

130 USD RRP makes the app-controlled Batmobile seem like a steal.

  13. I got this technic set at a local retailer because I have never seen an all white 42077 Rally Car. I think it is a box printing error but wanted to see anyone had more information on this. It looks like the printer ran out of blue when looking at it from the back. On the back it looks the normal but the buggy front is white but it fades to blue. I did notice the number under UPC was different than the other normal blue box rally car at the store. Really wished the box was in better shape but it is what it is. Can someone weight their sealed 42077 set. I am wondering if the weights are similar. Many thanks for any info on this.

https://shop.lego.com/en-US/Move-Hub-88006 I'm intrigued by the new Power Functions Move Hub. It's pricey at $79.99 USD but the creative opportunities it opens are great in my opinion. Two integrated motors, tilt sensors, two inputs/outputs... That'll be a huge improvement to the method of javing two independent motors on 42065 Technic RC Tracked Racer this year which was a really fun build.

Seems people are starting to leak prelims for the 2018 range. So far, only pullbacks and one interesting model of note, which would be a licensed Mack container truck. That should please the Americans no end.

42042 - Technic Crawler Crane - released in USA in Aug 2015; 1401 pcs, power functions included. RRP US$149.99. ToysRUs lists it as an "exclusive" but is widely available everywhere online. Seems frequently discounted in the $115 - $126 range. Walmart.com has it now around $116 = 23% off (Sep 2016). Overshadowed by it's big brother in 2015 - the 42043 Mercedes AROCS - could this set take an early exit (or at least a "normal" 2-year exit) and be a big winner in 2018? Worth picking up at $110? ... or better to wait for a better deal?

Anyone bought the 42009 for investment yet? I ordered one today, but I don't know if I should build it, or keep it for investment after reading the following: http://community.brickpicker.com/blog/4/entry-304-lego-technic-investments-on-the-fast-track-or-in-the-shop-part-2/ Let me know what you guys think. I just started buying Lego as investment, but I must say: Its addicting
