  6. Reached out to a good friend that I have wronged years and years back and we went our own separate ways. Been meaning to approach him for a couple years but I’ve been putting it off ( think the old man and his son from home alone ). We aren’t hanging out for Christmas but at least we talked for a good bit

  7. Well, since my name was called out, I can throw you a few Fire Bikes worth of knowledge. If you want the synopsis, here it is: There is no one watching youtube videos that will influence the secondary value of a lego set, so don’t worry about it. My most watched video was on the Bugatti Veyron technic set and I encouraged people to consider buying the Speed Champion version because the $/sq ft of the box was so much higher (more efficient to store), it was much closer to retirement, and I thought it would outperform after retirement. I think there were about 150k views while the Speed Champion was still 11.99 everywhere. How much influence do you think my video had? How many large Bugattis did I buy? 2. How many little Bugattis did I buy? 40-50. I just wish I hadn't sold them all at $90. How much did my video influence the market? 0. Did I enjoy making it? Yes. There have been countless articles, videos, websites, books, and podcasts about Lego investing. It is not a secret. Don’t give anyone so much credit that they can influence the market. Legos are not Doge or Gamestop. They are not liquid assets. Selling Lego is not easy work. The masses are looking for easy. The real arbitrage and resale money is made elsewhere, and most often not in Lego. You don’t hear much talk about how to buy surplus, how to amass 1000’s of a set, abandoned cargo, store buyouts, ect… Buying last minute from Walmart is chump change. Although I do remember scoring about 10 last minute Town Halls at retail from Walmart thanks to a post here. So what was my motivation to start making videos? Did I want to be an Idiot? No, I wanted to diversify my income stream. Brickpicker had just released a book on Lego investing and was looking to diversify the web site. I offered to make videos and support Brickpicker with a split of ad revenue. They paid me about $300 over a year and half as my share and they gave me a cool Brickpicker polo shirt. I hope the videos are still generating a little revenue for the site. I really enjoyed making them as I am an educator at heart, but time and space pulled me away. I will be honest that I don’t have a thick skin for online hate either. I switched gears to importing and selling chocolate from all over the world. I just started making my own too. So let me know if you want some amazing chocolate. I still sell Lego because it is fun but less than 100k per year as a small timer. I still relish the day I sold my first 20 #7655 Clone Trooper battle packs for $40 a piece. It still brings a smile to my face, so I hope that is why everyone is here on Brickpicker. I hope that it is fun for you. So don’t put down people that make vides and try to make money off them. Everyone can make it fun in their own way. The only idiots are those that will buy because someone told them too. I have made this mistake (I think I still have some Cinderella lipstick around somewhere). Don’t get pissed if someone mentions your favorite Disney Duplo set. They aren’t going to influence the market. There are way too many sets, the market is way too big, and there is too much conflicting advice. That’s all I got. Just my opinion. But back on topic. Is it too early to start buying Galaxy Explorers? How many should I buy?

  8. Drove home from Michigan today, took a nap and then opened up Facebook Marketplace and saw this listing for $20: Now, if you look beyond the dust and the plane, there is a wall so I instantly offered to buy it, dust and all! Then while waiting for a response I confirmed what I suspected on Bricklink. That is Green Grocer for $20.

  9. Purchased two #71044 Disney Train Stations (Train Station bags only) on eBay some time ago. Finally put together and modified to be a complete and enclosed building. They are essentially mirrored from one side to the next. I also expanded the taller tower a little bit and now fits a total of four windows on the roof instead of the original just having two. Plus, I made it to be modular as well. I did not have to use too many extra pieces from my bulk, mainly tile pieces and the train tracks. And I was able to integrate the cobblestone tiles from the GWP Harry Potter Diagon Ally #40289. I do enjoy train station buildings and I think it looks pretty sharp.

Got about 400 miles on it so far and its fun to drive. Feels like a tank on the road and lot more room / comfort than the Wranglers I drove for a few weeks. Color looks a lot more vibrant in the sun too and darker at night. Were shocked I was keeping it, said most were just having them sell on the lot.

  14. As for operating with a single account to stay within the vendor’s technically-enforced limits, I believe this is the current state of things. Cliff notes: you’ll be fine as long as you don’t go on a spending spree at Target.com, and try not to bring attention to your buying patterns by dealing with online customer service for small gripes that can be dealt with in store instead. Target - the easiest place to get banned based simply on purchase volume online and the most aggressive against resellers in store — employees trained to identify resellers loading up carts for example. Can still use red card in store after online ban, but using with a new email account will result in repeat ban — start receiving auto cancellations and email about possible issues including payment purchase method. Some people have bans lifted after a period in timeout. Others indefinitely. The amount of purchases that may identify you as a reseller and get a ban? One data point: I have been unable to purchase online going on 18 months now after two months of $5k purchases on the red card. Same red card still works fine in store. LEGO shop at home — with the purchase limits mechanics implemented a few years ago, it is much more difficult to get the SAH ban hammer. If you exceed a limit on any item based on past purchases of the same item, they will cancel your entire order. Be warned that if they cancel an order with a VIP Rewards purchase, the reward is not automatically credited back to your account. Also, if they cancel an item due to inventory issues, the system still tracks it as qty purchased. Qty purchased in brick and mortar stores that are purchased with VIP accounts are not counted towards SAH limits and and limits in store are done at the individual store’s discretion. If you do have to call customer service to resolve an issue, they do have easy visibility to all of your previous orders and will make comments about you “really liking LEGOs”. No indication that that is how the ban process starts, but unless you really have an issue that needs CS, might be best to just let the small things go. Amazon — shop away. Their limits are tracked to the second on a 168-hour FIFO. Limits apply and are tracked in that window only to items sold and shipped by Amazon.com. Buy as many third party items as you wish. Anecdotal stories of bans for excessive returns, but no clear information on the metrics used. Generally, probably best to save the returns for the really bad boxes. Creating multiple accounts will get noticed and is the quickest way to get the warning shot emails. Barnes and Noble — similar to LEGO, has a five qty per item lifetime limit online. Exceed that amount and just that item will be cancelled from the order. No reports of bans. In store purchases do not appear to be tied to online memberships as far as adding to your 5-count quantity. Walmart — most LEGO are limited to two per order, but they won’t say how often that limit is reset. Doing a couple of multiple limit orders in the same day has worked. Doing dozens has resulted in order cancellations of those specific items but no bans that I am aware of. Generally, I have found one limit order per day has never resulted in a cancellation. ShopDisney — some items have limits but they are selectively enforced. If you put in multiple limit orders at the same time, they might cancel those items. If you space them out, they will be fine. I ordered a dozen castles (limit one per customer) last year and they all went through. Sometimes two in two consecutive days. Costco — has item limits on some items, but I haven’t seen any on LEGOs. Even with items with limits, possible to space them out without issue. In store limits are usually “per day”. Best Buy — unsure on LEGO as I’ve never pushed the limits on them. In the past, I would make 50 purchases at a time of 2-dollar items that had limits and they would all go through. I have tried to make multiple purchases of Xbox consoles and those were cancelled. So YMMV. But no reports of bans. Anyways, those are my observations.

  15. So, I got fired at noon yesterday. Less than 3 hours later, I received a job offer from a firm that I had turned down in the fall. They gave me a higher salary and earlier today, I renegotiated for a higher signing bonus and increased PTO. I signed and sent it off a few hours ago and filled out the background information. So needless to say, things are working out and I'll be starting mid-August. Now I just need to find a way to actually log onto NYS Department of Labor Website to file for unemployment somehow...

The oldest let me condense his zoo just enough to jam Christmas town in. Just a couple small sets added this year. The toy shop never got rebuilt due inventory and staffing shortages. There are a lot of set 10241 sitting off the coast of the table.

  21. F 'em! What gets me is they whine about me sweeping the shelf in the clearance section when the LEGO set has been available for 6 months. They are upset at me for trying to make a buck when they hesitated, trying to save a buck?!? Even with new releases. I don't get any early access, being a reseller. They can drag their lazy ass off the couch and buy when the product is available, the same as me. But no, they want their sleep AND still be able to whine about not getting the item. And let's look at what they are whining about. Is it needed medical supplies? Is it food needed for subsistence? No, it's a luxury item. So their little Johnny or Jane won't have it under the tree this year. Boo hoo. So what? Maybe it's time to teach the little heathen that: 1. They don't get everything that they want. 2. Life is about disappointments. 3. Your parents are lazy pricks that would rather blame me for their woes than to inconvenience themselves to buy the items when they are released. I'm 60 years old and I find that, as I grow older, I hate people more and more. F 'em! Oh, and karma is a made-up concept that some sad-sack invented to try to make a more motivated person feel bad. If karma was real then how would you explain all the wealthy politicians in Washington?

  22. Just got back from our 15-yr anniversary vacation that was supposed to happen in 2020 but got delayed a few times due to the 'vid. We went on a 14-night Disney Panama Canal cruise which departed from New Orleans. We spent five days in New Orleans beforehand to attend Mardi Gras and had a blast. We took the kids to Bourbon Street and it was an eye-opening experience for them. LOL. It was our first time at Mardi Gras, and all the good and bad stuff that you hear about Bourbon Street are true! Outside of Bourbon Street, the French Quarter is a beautiful place to visit. We'll have to go back and check out the Garden District and other places next time. We ate at Top Chef Isaac Toups' Meatery and other great restaurants out there. The cruise was amazing. The Panama Canal is an engineering marvel. We also had stops at Cozumel, Cartagena, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo. The Grand Cayman port visit was unfortunately cancelled due to their tight COVID restrictions. There was one thing I saw while we were in Gatun Lake in the Panama Canal that made me think of you guys. I saw a Maersk container ship that reminded me of set 10241. Excuse the bed head as it was around 8am when we got through the first locks and into Gatun Lake.

  27. We got the Vorys letter in back in January and immediately hired an IP attorney. Our letter called out our presence on Amazon, eBay and Walmart but of course not on Bricklink. We use a different store name on Amazon because we sell more than Lego but it was probably our business address that linked them together. After my attorney spent a couple weeks getting the lay of the land understanding our position in the market, where we source our products, our quality control measures and near flawless customer service for 15 years, he recommended we respond with an 8 page "Thanks but no thanks" which was sent about 2 weeks ago. At first I was nervous about responding in fear of putting a target on my back (knowing so many others are tossing the letter in the trash) but too much of my life has been dedicated to Lego for me to sit on my hands. Most of us reading this thread can legitimately say we are more knowledgeable about Lego products than most (if not all) of Lego's authorized resellers in the US. I can also tell you with 100% confidence that by "us" reselling genuine Lego products and providing a 2nd life only adds to the perceived value of the Lego brand. If Lego sliced the necks of ALL legitimate Lego resellers then Lego would quickly become nothing more than Mega Bloks with a shinier brick. The perceived value of Lego would erode very quickly ...the parents who now justify buying a $350 Gunship by saying "I can probably sell this eBay in 2 years and get my money back" would no longer have this option and thus make better buying decisions. This would also produce many more "pop-up shops" with a higher number of scammers and the market will have a tougher time determining the good sellers from the bad. We are one of the good guys and treat Lego like part of the family so for us to be called out in this dragnet is very disappointing. We intend on fighting this until we run out of resources.

  28. i built the creator tiger and crocodile sets over the weekend. for reasons i can't put into words, these sets appeal to the lego purist in me. they were quick and interesting builds. the tiger has several sections that snap satisfyingly with a "click" when put together. i am thankful lego put the time and effort to make some actual printed wedge tiles for the tiger set forming the top of the stripe pattern that are critical to the set but could have been ruined with stickers.

  31. 21226 Art Project I built this with my daughter twice. Once for the 3x3 art design and once for the classic spaceman. I wanted and kept the spaceman and she kept hers with the 3x3 art. Started with the 3x3 art, this was one of her Christmas presents. She'd loved making art patterns when she was aged 4-6 with 1x1s of all varieties so now as she is going on age 9 I thought she'd really love this art project and she did. It was fun enough I found a 2nd one at Target locally next to the Lego clothes in the clothes section. So glad it can be built little by little, I thought this project would drive me nuts. But I was able to commit to one panel at a time for like 15-20 mins per panel and stage it out when I felt like it and no rush. NOT interested in the World Map! Ha, after two of these I think I'm done placing 1x1 tiles for a while. Edit: Okay kind if interested in the World Map but wow it goes from 3x3 panels in this project to 5x8 panels in the World Map. That's 31 additional panels!

  32. I had a Covid Xmas, currently relying on an oxygen machine or else my blood oxygen % drops to 75-80 fast. My common colds turn to lung infections, so I should've seen this "covid pneumonia" coming and it's probably not typical for the 99% that recover. I kinda wish this thread would get locked as I'm fighting to post in it constantly (and now caved). Also, I like and respect people so much more the less I know about them, and this is showing a lot of people's ugly sides. Understandably so, I can't think of anything that's been so divisive, especially between friends and family we all thought we knew so well. There's so many variables in this, it's hard to have one direct argument. Religion plays a factor for many, trust in science/doctors, having/lacking common sense. For instance, if you believe that masks are a false sense of security, than a picture of Fauci with a mask down shouldn't really matter because it's not doing much anyway. The problem in those pictures is the constant lack of "practice what you preach" (Fauci, Newsom, Pelosi, etc), not the science or environmental variables in the scene. These debates don't work well when one is focused on science and the other is focused on principles. BioNTech CEO stated triple-vaccinated will still spread omicron and isn't enough. You can do your hardest to play along, get your shots, get your boosters, show your proof, and then enter a stadium or some place and are still told to wear a mask. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I know we're all struggling with this, but let's stick together people. It's the best community out there.

He has shared a ton of deals and opportunities I'd have never known about I am not certain but fairly confident I figured out exactly which set(s) he was referring to pretty quickly just by pausing to think and doing a little digging. Not everything has to be or should be spoon fed to everyone here. That he disclosed the discrepancy at all is generous enough.

  39. Was notified back in April that I was going to be laid off at the end of October due to our department getting bought out by another bank. My employer didn't want to lose me, offered me a position on another team, and said it was mine if I wanted it. I discussed this with my wife and decided to pass on it and make a career change after being unhappy in the financial industry for the past 20+ years. In late August, I took a couple of night classes (Interpreting Engineering Drawings and CAD with SolidWorks) at the local community college while I was still employed. Took the three hour CSWA (SolidWorks Certification) exam last month and passed!! Now I'm trying to figure out if I should pursue an Associates Degree in Engineering. On hold for the past 30 mins with the transcripts department of my former college where I got my Bachelors in Finance, so I don't have to retake Calculus, etc. I'm in my late 40's and know that I am lucky enough to be financially able to change careers. Just wondering now if getting an Associates at my age will be enough for me to break into the industry.
