New image on Brickset

My $.02... We bought 50+ lots from shopgoodwill.com up until a year ago, now just occasionally buy for my collection. Pros: * Variety is huge and nearly all sets and figs you'll find are retired. * It was a great introduction in to brick picking. You will definitely learn your parts, your sets, your Lego eras. If you're starting out with more time than money, and you LOVE sorting, inventorying and assembling Lego, the returns can be decent on a % basis. A typical buy was $125-150 for a 30# box, buy another $25 of parts and manuals and sell on eBay for $6-800. It worked out to a decent stay-at-home hobby/gig for about $15/hour. Open a beer, turn on the TV and have fun. * If you're a collector and want to build cool sets that you would never otherwise buy, you can. I've had old castles, pirate ships and a ton of large SW sets go through my hands. Now I'm only collecting vintage late 70s and early 80s. Latest addition from the site is a very nice 956 auto chassis with a great original box & a 375 yellow castle. * If you're running a parts store this is an awesome way to get a huge number of unique parts. Cons: * It is very difficult to buy sealed sets as they often go for above retail. Some people justify their purchase prices because "Hey, the money's going to a good cause.", making it hard to win some auctions. Of our 50+ buys only 2 of them were for sealed boxes to flip. The rest of the cons are based on buying partial sets and parting them back into complete sets... * You HAVE to study to be able to identify parts, figs & sets to bid properly. Or you will overpay or lose to bidders that did their homework. You may get lucky, but that's gambling. * Scalability is zero. It is time-consuming from one end to the other. Once I got into selling new sets it became sooooo painful sort, inventory, place and wait for BL orders, photography... yada. And it's really nice to list 10 or 20 of an item rather than 1 at a time. * You have to start your own private parts store. I amassed 100,000+ parts, 80% of which are part-sorted (not color-sorted), but I don't have the time, space or desire to start a (real) parts store. If you don't have a decent (sorted) parts supply of your own, buying individual parts will cost a LOT of money. * Unscrupulous listers, i.e. photograph a 15# box of garbage and show a few HP figs and sand green slopes sprinkled in to make you think the box has some value, just to see that you paid $80 for 1# of HP Lego and 14# of bricks. * Ignorant listers, i.e. someone donates a beautiful 30# SW collection and the lister pulls all minifigs into another lot, and then dumps the parts randomly into 3 lots... You'd better buy all 3 lots, and now it's time to buy figs. BTW, the lots often all end within 30 seconds of each other : P (PS - some listers are AWESOME and you will quickly see what locations to avoid) It was a good education, but you really have to enjoy the tedious process. Ultimately my desire to ramp up the business pushed me out of buying from them. But it is pretty cool to pay $65 for a pile of bricks and an empty 4842 box (confirmed by the lister that it's empty), to get it home and find complete a 4842 & 4867 inside the box : )

This 31070 set looks to be using the same windscreen as the 10248 Ferrari F40. That means it's about the same size and could easily fit in with the Advanced Creator car models. Makes this set really interesting!

You all realize those are nano figs standing there? This is only 11 bricks tall, less that 2 minifigures tall. It is a cool model, but I will repeat the best Amazon comment ever that equally applies to this set. "No matter how small you think this set is, it is smaller." Comment from a 21002 Empire State Building review. Of course that doesn't mean it won't be a good performer. 21002 is over $70 on Amazon for its 77 bricks.

The new A Wing arrived today, ebay gave me a £10 voucher last week so i manage to get it for £25. Looking forward to building it.

I have a long history with the Shop Goodwill site. I had some huge hits, and I've had some misses. As with any auction site. I still look at the sales there all the time. In the past I've picked up stuff that I've flipped for quite a bit more than I paid. Unless it's a super golden deal, I try not to buy from there anymore, but really only because I just need to play catch up. I have about 100 lbs of bulk in my garage, with some gems in them, that have been sitting there for 2+ years now because I just haven't had the time to deal with them. I've got a Black Pearl in there, and a 10133 BNSF Engine in there. I think I paid a grand total of $75 for both lots. The key is to have a *very* keen eye. You really have to know what you're looking for. You need to be able to spot something that (hopefully) no one else sees. You have to be willing to take chances. I saw a few windows and some train wheels in one bulk lot, and figured out it was an Emerald Express. Bought it. Ended up with only the coal tender and the passenger car. No engine. But selling those two off paid for the rest of the bulk (and then some!). Both. You can have it shipped. It takes a little time to receive. Be sure to look at the shipping charges before buying. There are times that I feel the shipping charges are pretty high. But that's my own opinion. It has stopped me from buying some things before, but clearly, the shipping doesn't stop me from buying. Just be smart. If you do buy from a local Goodwill, you can always do a pick up and save the shipping charges.

Thanks! Turns out I subtly appeared on the news a few times (and Reddit). There were people walking out with multiple Disney castles, so that was nuts! They had some Sandcrawlers which were gone by the time I got in store. Personally, my most significant pickup of the day was 40145, it was worth the wait in the heat/humidity/rain and then some!

Personally, I think you should go ahead and do your plan. I believe you'll find it isn't worth the time and efffort involved, but best to learn that firsthand. And if you're not going to be at a store to buy them to have in hand the day they are released you will have already missed any opportunity to make anything worthwhile.

Hi all, today I picked up my daughter from school after a muddy mountainbike ride. We build Lego all afternoon. She was building the Heartlake Friends Cupcake Cafe while I cut the seals of the 75140 Resistance Troop Transporter. Great quality time! I was amazed by the building process of 75140, what a magnificent set. Well designed and it looks awesome. The set is bigger than I expected and it feels really solid. I agree with this 100%. The signs are already there. Take the 2013 and 2014 sets as prime examples. The Republic Gunship, AT-TE, and have blown away many similar OT released sets. The Republic Gunship currently sells for around 300 while you might get 150 for Jabbas Sail Barge. Both were released the same year, and both retired at the same time. The AT-TE sits around 200. Jedi interceptor is now around 70.00 when you could pick it up for around 20 in early 2015. Meanwhile the A-wing is about 50.00. In 2014, it's evident now I should have spent more time accumulating MTTs instead of Cantinas. That sets rise has blown away sets like the Cantina, B-wing, and all the Jabba released sets from the OT era. Just recently Obi's interceptor is outpacing the Hoth Attack and droid escape by quite a bit, and they all retired at the same time and cost the same amount. While the AT-AT and ISD have done well and seen great gains, those are just two sets out of many. In 2015, recently retired exclusives like the Battle Droid Carrier, and Hailfire droid are already rising quickly, much quicker than the OT sets, although the Jedi Duel is showing promising signs. In the AFOL world, I think older gen-xers that grew up with the original Star Wars films are now a market that is decreasing in size, while the milennials are a growing market. Seems fairly evident to me.

We are just going to ignore you. If I were a betting man, I might scoop up the SDCC exclusive sets at the current price and out those away for awhile. When people become fanatic to complete the entire series, you may have a gold mine. If I were a betting man.

What you're being told is: 1. If you need to wait for them to be shipped to you, you're too late. 2. If you list them for 2xRRP, you won't make much (if any) money 3. There is a market, but the window is tiny 4. You are not alone 5. Do it, don't do anything drastic (like buying 100s), and check it out for yourself. Best way to learn.

@Bluebird55. If you're ordering them on line, by the time they come to your house, you'll be too late to flip them imo.

Couple of things to keep in mind: 1. How are you going to buy "a significant number of them" without getting banned by LEGO? 2. If your strategy is bad, people might tell you. If your strategy is good, people won't tell you because that's their strategy too, and they don't need more competition

NEVER change the ship-to address in any way. Doing so voids your seller protection - if they file INR you lose, period. Tell them you can either cancel the transaction and they can re-buy when they've got their stuff in order, or you can ship it to the listed address and they can take their chances it gets to the right apartment. Tell them if they don't respond in time for you to make your ship-by window you will cancel. That's just how it is - I usually include boilerplate about how "eBay and PayPal rules require the seller to ship only to the address on the Transaction Details page" blah blah blah. Otherwise, so long as you're following eBay and PayPal shipping guidelines, if they bought it, you ship it. I ship to 0 feedback buyers both domestic and international all the time and have never had a problem; the only fraud chargebacks I've ever gotten were from high feedback buyers whose accounts were compromised.

After visiting my climbing partners house, who is also an AFOL, and seeing his original UCS x-wing 7191, I decided to build 10240. Loved the build, although the back was a bit weak during the first few stages. Can't say I love stickers much but did get the canopy on straight. Think my biggest trouble is that I can't stop until I finish a build. Was in bed at 3am, back up for work at 7...

I couldn't help but drop another $20 on this 99 Cent Only madness.

My 3 year quest and wait is finally over! After losing out on numerous Ebay auctions (lost one last night with what seems to be in the usual last 5 seconds to a person that never bid on the item all day) and CL listings, I was finally able to buy the 3368 Space Centre I have so desired and I got it for $90 NISB with free shipping. It is the final piece I wanted for my space collection. Good things do come to those who wait...

Pardon the dusty Batmobile please. The Joker's Lowrider is even larger than I thought. I thought it would look nice next to the Movie Ice Cream Truck but its so much longer. Its even longer than the (Burtonesque) Batmobile 76035. While I agree with most of you that $50 is very overpriced its a great car build. Wonder how it looks next to the Ecto 1?

Any thing PT I will bet on and go deep in. PT looks like it will be something Disney will avoid poking with a 5 yard stick. Things with battle droids apear to be going away with the clones currently and only avaiable in larger sets atm. Anyone who stocked in with the Vader series box's where there were tons of PT stuff are looking good across the board. I will think Disney will dry up their new movie line in 5 years and then will do something different so who knows, but now they will follow a marvel style movie setup. Remember their are kids that enjoy the PT when they were young. They also enjoyed the Clone Wars. They are currently in college atm or starting with jobs and rent. You may hate PT but that does not mean all others follow your opinion and soon they might have cash and I look to have some of it.
