One of my Christmas presents to myself showed up today in the mail.

$9.81 each at Sam's Club. Wife: "Remember those ones I got last week for $12.81?" Me: "Yeah. Sold em all already. About $13 profit each." "So if I told you I got 10 more of them at $9.81 you'd be really happy, right?" Me: "Oh God, please tell me you arm-swept..." "The only one I left had a damaged box." Me: "Dear Lord I love you..." "Will your Lego friends get jealousy-boners?" Me: "Gimme a second, gotta finish posting something on Brickpicker here..."

My son and I finished Assault on Hoth today. Hhhmmm , one of these UCS sets is not like the other....

When I pick up a big lot like this I sell the big sets individually and will get needed parts for them if it is economical to do so. Smaller sets that I can complete will be sold in groups by theme to save on shipping. Smaller sets that I cannot economically complete will be parted out to a local bricklink store and figures are sold off separately. To me, any set under $20 is not worth the time to search out figures/stickers on BL. A part or two, sure, but much more and it gets dumped. I will usually get to the big sets first to try to get the bulk of my money back immediately so that I'm working in the black for the most part. It also frees up more money for needed parts down the line as I don't inventory every set before buying parts. It takes too much time that way though it is surely a money savings with shipping of parts. Assuming this lot is mostly complete, it is a surefire winner. Just know that you aren't going to be paying yourself much by the hour in the end. My last "BIG" lot that I went through from a Brickpicker here was about 150 lbs. It took me dozens of hours to go through between the cleaning, sorting, inventorying, etc. I doubled my money and made thousands, but with the hours put in it doesn't look as impressive. If you love sorting and solving the puzzle that lays in front of you, it is very rewarding. I love doing it, but my back says otherwise.

Enjoyed the Christmas holiday with family and built this oldie/goodie over the past couple days. I bricklink'ed this set after pulling about half of it from my bulk collection. Enjoyable build and happy to add it to the modular street.

Hey Folks, I just visited our local cinema because they have one giant MF in their entrance area as a promo for Rogue one. This monster MOC is build from a Legoholic around town. He states that this is the biggest MF in the world (except the real one in a galaxy far far away ) ! It has around 35.000 pieces and the outer shell contains mostly the original grey pieces. It's about 1,83 metres (6 ft) long and 1,24 (around 4 ft) metres wide and it took 2 years to build it. But enjoy the pics yourself. just wanted to share this, all credits goes to this insane guy who build it. I was very impressed by this MOC! And I was quite suprised to find something like this around here. It's a small town with approx. 5.000 people living here and then something like this appears out of nowhere. I like it! What do you think, or have you seen a bigger MF already?

Costco membership is a good deal. We are there almost every week. Hardly ever go to grocery store. Costco for LEGO? Meh. Unless it's that palette of Black Pearls for $65 from a few years ago....sigh.

Enjoying some time off work so finally got to sit down for a few hours and finish this beauty off!! As a huge Disney fan, this was a really fun build for me!! Now just to find a place to display it....

So tonight I did something I told myself I would never do...buying a bulk listing off Craigslist. 2-3 times a week I'll scroll through CL, offerup, letgo, etc to see if there is any deals or anything worth while. I've bought a few sets off offerup/Letgo with overall success from my reason used Tumbler for 160 or the UCS AT-ST for 120. I've always looked over the "bulk/lot/Lego by the pound" post for the thought of going through all the sets gave me shivers down my spine. Despite that feeling I came across a deal I didn't want to pass up. I bought roughly 130 sets for 700 dollars tonight. Sets from all different themes (mainly city and SW) from Detective office to Kwik E Mart a pretty big Variety of sets. The listing started at 1500 and after back and forth was able to get it for 700 (plus an hour drive north of me) I think I did ok. The reason I'm making a new post is because it's a mix of "what did you buy, Craigslist list, buying/selling, best practices, etc. wanted to mix all that into one, mainly about bulk lots. Knowing I went against my better judgment I am asking for members who have done this in the past to post what they do when they buy these sets. How do you go about selling them? Try and complete the sets (this lot is listed as all sets complete yet 75% are mixed together) once complete sell them. Do you part everything out? Piece by piece..minifigure by minifigure? Do you try and resell as is for higher than you paid? I'm curious of the best way of going about this. Which is the most sane way and most profitable. Here is a picture of the stuff I bought (lucky I had my grandfathers van) sets and boxes go all the way to the front of the car. It's a bit overwhelming and curious how you guys would/do it. Thanks! This is the list of what I got and what the dad thought he paid lol. Some of them are pretty off but that being said I think I made out well for 700! I know I PMed a few of you about the potential buying of the lot but figured I'd share and see what other stories and advice members here could give!

For my final post of this year, I am proud to introduce the Range Rover Evoque with air ride. The car was too black so I added white, it was too low so I raised it a stud and the hood wasn't slanted enough so I re-created the front of the vehicle. I reduced the weight to 6.3 pounds (2850g) The car functions really well, I highly suggest using an S-brick for this car as the receivers are hidden behind the seats. This car has 4wd, air ride, torsion bar suspension, 2 XL motors for drive, 2 m motors for lift, V8, servo for steering, gear shifter turns on the lights. The car is finally to a perfect scale. The hard parts of this build was the air ride, torsion bar and having the doors start low at the front and higher at the back. The catalog is not a good gauge to determine retirements. It's been proven time and time again. The SSD had a massive two page spread when it was sold out at LEGO Shop at Home and everywhere else. VW and TB has been missing from many issues but live on in perpetuity.

Missing notables are : no UCS Tie .. no Temple no TB no FW no Simpsons no FO Tie no Kylo Command Shuttle no Poe Xwing no T1 Ferris Wheel.

Sorry if already mentioned, but I just received the Lego store catalog for 2017 and there's no UCS Tie Fighter. Perhaps it just didn't make the cut....

Here's my haul from my Christmas trip through Georgia . Told my wife if we made a few stops I could make some gas money. I guess I caught the Georgia Brick Pickers slippin' Most everything was Bought for 25-55% off. Today I picked up about 3 dozen of those bowling poly bags. Will be good for goodie bags at least.

I've stopped fooling around with bulk lots like this, but used to focus on them almost exclusively. Whenever I bought a bulk lot, I would do the following: (1) separate all of the pieces into individual pieces, (2) wash any pieces that needed cleaning, (3) sort the individual parts out, (4) inventory each set to see what parts I was missing, (5) buy the missing parts, (6) sell the sets individually.

It's always a jolting hit when childhood heroes and icons leave us.....reminds us of the fragility of life and that nothing lasts forever. We grew up watching these characters and the silver screen lends a timeless quality to them. We see them that way, free from the reality and mortality of life. And then before you know it they are gone and it almost seems like a piece of ourselves is gone as well. Rest in peace Miss Fisher, you will be missed.

Here's my 2 cents on this in general... If college in is in the future for him, I would STRONGLY suggest you sit down with him and go through the next 5+ years of financial woes where he will be on his own. Borrowing, interest, etc... if this needs to occur. From my own experience, it is much easier after college to manage life with zero school debt while friends and co-workers of mine are still paying theirs down (i'm in my 30's). Now, this includes saving like crazy (still having fun but not spending crazy amounts), working two full-time jobs during summers and working full-time during every year of college except my first full year, but still picking up a part-time job to off-set weekend activities. So now all the money that others are paying towards school-debt, I'm paying down my home debt. Now of course the cost of college has gone up quite a bit since I've been there, but every bit helps and becoming financially stable is much better than tacking on interest all over the place which sadly happens to too many people. If we are talking about a 13 year old here and not a 16 or so, then I would still suggest the conversation at some point and then listen to the other posts above. Keep the sets together, don't get them damaged or leave out in the sun either. Check out Pinterest or this site for multiple ways to display them.

What @MrToes16 is saying is that if you have 2 sets, open one and build it, and sell the other straight away (or at least soon after set retirement), you might find that the opened set at some point in the future will end up giving you more money than the one you sold right away. E.g. selling a sealed 10179 for $800 5+ years ago is a good profit, but selling your used one today for $1500 beats that. Of course, if you hold both the opened and unopened sets equally long, the unopened set carries a premium. I don't think @MrToes16's point was very strong, but he's right in what he is saying.

No, time can not change that answer. If one is talking about the same set, the unopened one will always be worth more. If you are talking about an older set opened versus a newer, unopened remake, that is something different entirely.

FWIW, I went to a Barnes B&M today to see if they were matching the online sale. I was told 'We don't match online prices bc we outsource our online stuff', but the 3 SW sets I tested that matched the online sale (75091, 75101, 75103) rang up at 30% off.

Picked up a complete with instructions 8129 AT-AT for $100

Gifted this to my mom this year. We made a family effort on the build. Maybe the wine was contributing heavily, but it was very surprising to see how much they (my folks) struggled with it; recognizing shapes, figuring out spatial orientation on the model...all stuff I (we) approach like walking or breathing. Final model is excellent. I loved the use of the hot dogs! Both my folks listened to the Beatles in their youth, and my mom actually saw them live at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1964. Consequently, I found it appropriate to pose my shot on the original piece of musical art that inspired the Lego set!

We finally finished this bad boy today. A fun build to say the least. Nothing to repetitive and actually quite nice to look at

The build was unique, and the tower is a much better representation of the actual Burj than the original was. I have both models on display and frankly, the new Burj kicks the old Burj's arse!
