For my final post of this year, I am proud to introduce the Range Rover Evoque with air ride. The car was too black so I added white, it was too low so I raised it a stud and the hood wasn't slanted enough so I re-created the front of the vehicle. I reduced the weight to 6.3 pounds (2850g) The car functions really well, I highly suggest using an S-brick for this car as the receivers are hidden behind the seats. This car has 4wd, air ride, torsion bar suspension, 2 XL motors for drive, 2 m motors for lift, V8, servo for steering, gear shifter turns on the lights. The car is finally to a perfect scale. The hard parts of this build was the air ride, torsion bar and having the doors start low at the front and higher at the back. There's something wrong with the wife asking you to go on a road trip to IKEA, but then limit you to stops with known clearance deals out there. With frantic kids in tow and limited concentration, I was able to stop at a couple Targets and one Wal-Mart. I scored decently on the pink stuff during the Target stop on the return trip. At least 50% off and I was able to get a few at 70%+, the $10 little Princess sets for $3.58 each. Scored a couple of those new Batman Movie polys too. The lone Wal-Mart stop had some Ariel's Palace sets for $40, Frozen Arendelle for $35 and Elves Pegasus Sleigh or whatever for $21.

We finally finished this bad boy today. A fun build to say the least. Nothing to repetitive and actually quite nice to look at

Gifted this to my mom this year. We made a family effort on the build. Maybe the wine was contributing heavily, but it was very surprising to see how much they (my folks) struggled with it; recognizing shapes, figuring out spatial orientation on the model...all stuff I (we) approach like walking or breathing. Final model is excellent. I loved the use of the hot dogs! Both my folks listened to the Beatles in their youth, and my mom actually saw them live at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1964. Consequently, I found it appropriate to pose my shot on the original piece of musical art that inspired the Lego set!

So to summarize, E1s wife (aka profit eater) dropped $1k at IKEA and E1 desperately tried to make up for it with a few small hauls on the return trip. Yeah, I can totally relate to this. It's a microcosm of my family's monthly financial cash flow statement.

The "Great Loot of 2016" in all of it's glory!! We take this style picture of our Lego Loot every year. It gives us a bit of a reference at times. And...YES...my kids (and us) are a bit spoiled!!

Enjoying some time off work so finally got to sit down for a few hours and finish this beauty off!! As a huge Disney fan, this was a really fun build for me!! Now just to find a place to display it....

Today I worked on my karma: while hunting for a Nexo Horse set (down to $10.86 at WM, thought I was lucky to find the one remaining copy on the messy shelves until I removed a Ninjago set which revealed another stack of at least 6 of 'em) I found a single Finn buildable for $5 (had a sticker saying $13 but scanned for $5) but gave it to a five year old who was shopping with his mom and wanted Bionicles but settled for buildables, but didn't have enough pocket money saved up for the non-discounted ones. They also had a few Rey's for $9.86, didn't buy.

Play by play of the situation, for all your entertainment. Note, this is the "ghetto" WM in my area, was once a full-sized WM but they've blocked off half of the building. Lady has her son sitting in her shopping cart. One of those typical no-make-up, slightly-worn-clothes moms that you see often in WM. Son (pointing at the SW buildables): "I want Bionicle". Mom: "Those are not Bionicles, those are some sort of figures" Son: "I want these Bionicles" Mom: "These are from Star Wars" Son grabs one. Mom: "This would use up all your money and more" This is where I step in and tell her some are on sale, like Rey. She grabs Rey. I then spot Finn with his $13 sticker. Scan it, offer it to him as soon as I see it's $5. Mom: "Here, with this one you even have money left over" Son hugs the buildable, she smiles and thanks me, and goes off. When you shop for your son, Nexo Knights are a good buy. He's been playing out battles since he got a range of sets for Christmas.

amz has the scooby van for $28 ships Jan 4. Not much of a deal but possibly the last chance to get one under rrp.

What I am trying to say is that the concepts behind Bionicle, Chima, Nexo Knights etc. appeal to kids in the age 5-10 range. When my son looks at a LEGO catalog, he is drawn to these fiction themes with all their play functions. He likes SW too, but the more imaginative stuff attracts him. The conversations I typically overhear in stores like WM and Target go around the same lines. I am not at all saying there is much investment value in these sets, but the sub-$30 sets are what I consider pocket-money sets, anything above that becomes "gift from (grand)parents" territory. And for pocket-money sets kids choose either the fantasy themes or Star Wars (also fantasy, but more respected by the AFOLs).

Santa decided there would be no LEGO for me this year... something about needing new curtains/Bed sheets and tools to fix the place up. I'm not sure what the bastard was thinking!

Checked a few Targets near me. Mostly 30% off, a few items I would definitely consider at 50% off. One store even had several Nexo packs for half off. In SoCal of all places lol. I did get lucky at the second Target. Hailfire Droid was $13.98. Must have been a return as I have not seen one of those in store for months. Really thrilled about that. Also found a few Friends polybags for $1.98, and one single Reindeer for $1.74. Left a few Friends bags for further markdowns. Did also find one single 2015 Juniors garbage truck sitting in a returns cart. Going for $35 on Ebay and $25 on BL, scanned for $14.40. Decided to leave it after heavy debate with myself, just wasn't worth it to me yet. Overall not bad, time to start hitting up my WMs after my teams tournament ends. : D

I've never really understood this idea that everyone is going to want 2 or 3 of these in their displays. I don't know anyone currently with 2 or 3 in their display, so I highly doubt that many people are going to need multiples at aftermarket prices. If anything they'll buy one and then use the instructions to build more buildings in other colors.

I am fortunate that my father has 30 years experience in emergency medicine. When this happened the other day, I talked with him at length about the news that had been put out, and what he thought it meant in his experience. "Stability" doesn't mean "doing well" or "getting better." It just means they're not doing emergency work on the patient anymore. They weren't being "reactionary" anymore, at least, from an emergency medicine standpoint. Stabilized really just meant that they could examine her thoroughly, determine the amount of damage to her heart and her brain, and figure a course of action. He said that 25 minutes of CPR, even with the best practitioners of CPR, in the best of settings, is a long time to go. It entirely possible that mortal damage was already done to her heart and/or brain before they landed.

It's always a jolting hit when childhood heroes and icons leave us.....reminds us of the fragility of life and that nothing lasts forever. We grew up watching these characters and the silver screen lends a timeless quality to them. We see them that way, free from the reality and mortality of life. And then before you know it they are gone and it almost seems like a piece of ourselves is gone as well. Rest in peace Miss Fisher, you will be missed.

Have to hope for the best and i am given that it was only 15 mins between it happening and her getting medical treatment on the ground. I had a Heart attack 3 years ago which then turned into a cardiac arrest whilst I was being operated on but because I got help within a very short space of time (45 mins from it starting), I was able to make a full recovery and since then been able to lead a normal life and even ran a marathon this past year. The only way you can tell that I ever had an incident is two small puncture marks on my right wrist which they used to unblock two arteries and put in some stents. The wonders of medical science hence why I'm hopeful for her.

Built Tower of Orthanc this week. Really liked the build and think the finished model is just class!!!
