  2. Well... at least the Pet Shop is one set you can use multiples in a city setup. Just like Grand Emporium.

  5. I don't want to start a debate about the word "investing" in regard to Lego (again), but there's a big difference between the time frame of investments vs. arbitrage/flipping. Yes, the online selling is a gold rush right now, but not many have patience for the big payoff. I only call something an investment if I'm willing to hold it for five years. What are you willing to hold for five years? I stand by my assertion that the rate of "arbitrage" online has changed the Lego landscape more than anything--and it isn't just Lego reselling. It's everything. I've only been a member here for a little under 2 1/2 years, but the conversation and focus on flipping has shifted even in that time. Either everyone wants the quick money, or the long term folks are just keeping quiet.

  11. I know other people have aired a similar sentiment , but im that stage where I would rather have quantity at a slightly higher price than go cherry picking across the state . The last year have been a game changer and my strategy has drastically changed as a result

  12. Got a pretty good deal on Craigslist today. $40 for a tote full of Legos and instructions. Weighs over 23 lbs. I just started sorting through it and pulling the figs out. Looks like most if not all the sets are there. I forgot to take a pic of the full tote, but here's the instructions and a bin of the figs.

  13. Is there so much despair that we even consider the Maze as being a hidden gem? A hidden gem does not reveal itself before hand. It is only after the fact when one can speak of a hidden gem. If the maze sells for 2 x RRP after retirement it will officially be a hidden gem. Unless we declare it now to be a hidden gem and it will not live up to expectations.

  14. Dear Grumpy Old Men, RRP is irrelevant. Buy-in is King. We will try to stay off your lawn. We won't complain about the walk to school, as we know it used to be much more difficult. In kind, please keep any sentences that begin with "back in my day" relegated to discussions with other people who made tons of easy money doing this and now complain because it's harder. Sincerely, Current Lego Investing

  15. @Alpinemaps @exciter1 I think there's a risk this topic is deteriorating into another "bubble thread". Let's keep it at looking for, and mentioning the retiring sets here!

  20. I believe just mentioning a set as a hidden gem immediately puts the hoard stink on it, and all the lurkers just bought 5 more copies each.

  23. Selling for 2 x MSRP after fees is a tall order. But after about 18 months post-retirement, I had sold all my GE's for an average price of $290 + shipping. So about $255 after fees. Even on the handful where I paid $150 + tax, I made about $90 profit on the half hour or so that went into very carefully packaging and mailing each set. Pet Shop is not going to do that. There have been too many false retirements that prompted resellers (including me) to load up on them. I don't think it will be remade, but even another modular house could hurt its appreciation. If you own the set, I wouldn't be selling now and trying to compete with Lego. But I wouldn't buy it for anything near MSRP either.

  30. You are right! Time will tell. I only tried to share my thoughts with you. I still think that spreading is a good choice and buy-in is way better than the hope for the hidden treasure in your closet or storage room. I even don't expect 2x MSRP from most of the sets. My only problem is: I don't want to miss one of the "cool" sets, so I have to stick close to my strategy to buy from a few themes, but not all. Only the remade Death Star and the Adventure Time nonsense which reminds me a little bit of the 24-in-1 (40222) are no temptations for me... Ok, copy that! No more use of the word "hidden gem". P.S.: I think that the 10188 is a real HIDDEN GEM! *ironyoff*

  38. Apples and oranges. 10188 retires and there is no other way to get a Death Star. Pet Shop retires and there are 5 other modulars to buy from retailers at or below retail price, counting the upcoming release.
