  1. Continued my building rampage while my wife is overseas. Been wanting to make the kwik-e into a modular style that will fit on the block. I had to sacrifice the isles inside but everything else fit nicely. This is my first attempt at any kind of moc or mod. I think it turned out pretty good. The second floor will be an addition onto the cinema next door, still playing around with that. I have it started in the last pic but I may change that up.

  2. With everyone posting their collections earlier this week, I decided to post how mine currently looks. I am likely building the Porsche with within a few weeks so will have to move things around. Enjoy!

  3. $41.99 for a $50 TRU Gift Card on Staples (16% discount). Limit 3, I believe. For you can pay $101.99 for a $100 gift card if you want an anti-deal.

  6. Just for kicks, checked the last 100 sales again... for last 100 sold July, 10, 2016: Top sellers (quan. sold): (1) Fly Guy, (2) all tied: Tiger Woman, Square Foot, Spider Lady, Pirate Zombie Top Avg. Price (incl. shipping): (1) Tiger Woman $10.28, (2) Square Foot $9.60, (3) Wolf Guy $9.43 Avg. of all: $7.29 Square Foot was a real surprise, though there are some outlying data points for that one (a couple sales at >$13)... taking that data out, his avg. sale price is closer to $8 (still much improved over early sales). Most consistent popular sellers from all three data samplings (always selling more than average in quantity) are Tiger Woman and Banshee. As always: take it with a grain of salt... small sample size... not statistically conclusive.

  9. I keep mine in the original boxes they came in and sort them as to what they are and then stack those boxes together. It's not pretty but I pretty much know where everything is when I'm looking for it. I have a couple people that help me with it, so that helps. I've uploaded a pic so you can see what I'm talking about...

  10. A few years ago I bought a used 6285 Barracuda off Bricklink. I finally had time to clean the pieces and build this beautiful ship! The sails were in fantastic shape. This was my first LEGO ship that I've ever built and it was a fun, but sometimes challenging build. I must say, once you start assembling the masts and raising the sails, this ship really comes to life! I hope you enjoy the pics.

  11. Working on a western scene and saw a western train station on Lego Ideas and liked it (https://ideas.lego.com/projects/9050), but wanted to mod some changes, make it a modular and add some LED lights (http://www.lifelites.com/). I have worked on this one on/off for about three years making all kinds of modifications to it. I want to redo the inside of the building at some point, maybe give it more detail like the outside. However, for now I am content with it. I hid the battery pack to the street lights under the water tower and ran the wiring under the building (you can kind of see the battery pack, but not too bad). The clock tower lights up too, though it may be hard to see. I hid the battery pack inside the roof, with a little trap door to turn the power on. I like that it is usable for western type scenes as well as a modern train station (since there are so many older train stations still in use across this country). I also modified the locomotive so that it runs on Power Functions. All the wooden planks that wrap around the station are the 1x4 wood grain tiles (not stickers), part #2431pb243. I bought a bunch a few years ago and am glad I did, they are quite pricy now. I think it makes it look a lot nicer. Spoiler: and those of you with OCD…you may notice in the pictures that the four clocks are not aligned to be the same time…sorry.

  13. There's a whole bunch they can do with this line. They could in theory make more UCS type playsets or structures based off disney characters. While I would suspect this set to be out for 5 to 6 years easily, it will eventually retire, as well. But, I think this, along with the Disney minifigures series are the first in a long long line of these things. They'll tap this market to death, just like they did and are doing with Star Wars, and Marvel. Personally, i'm not so sold on the disney minifigures being as big of an investment as people are chirping on here. Maybe initially, but over time it wont be, after the 50th mickey mouse is released in a set, or the 20th alice in wonderland playset is released with yet another alice. Just watch. Those sets are coming, and it's obvious. Now if they will just release a star wars minifigures series so we can finally add Zuckuss, and 4Lom to the collection, i'd be a happy cat.

  14. I think the economy and marketplace has changed. While there always might be an outlier like a $400-$500 STAR WARS set, I am beginning to question the continued explosive growth of The LEGO Group's profits. We will see this year when they release their financials, but I have seen interviews with LEGO bigwigs and they are nervous about Brexit and are putting a lot of faith in the Asian markets. There are also other subtle changes occurring. Discounts on exclusives? They are starting to pop up. Bans? Have you seen any recently?

  20. I read the first Elves book with my daughter (picked it up during the Barnes deal) and she loved it. And I like it much better than the Friends series. Friends is so superficial and consumer-centric. The beginning of one the books (probably all of them) said something like 'we need more money so we can buy more things.' And 'isn't shopping the best?!' I'm not exaggerating. To keep thinks relevant. Kmart has Friends Heartlake Hair Salon #41093 for $21.99 (27%) Heartlake Private Jet #41100 for $23.99 (20%) There are at least two $5 off $35 coupon codes out there. One should work. And free shipping over $35. And you might get $2 bonus bucks for next time. I did on a different Lego order. Ymmv

  24. It is reasonable to believe that they might not be able to sustain the growth forever. Growing is nice for sure, but if you already captured a large majority of your prospective buyers then you either have to explore new markets or be content with your market share and sustain your sales. Also personally I attribute the policy changes to their recent capacity expansions. And Brexit... it hurts Britain, hurts Europe, but my worry is the elephant in the room called Southern European financial markets. If that ticking bomb finally goes off Brexit will be the least of Europe's problems.

  26. Who really knows, but the trend is more, but smaller pieces...basically giving the impression of larger and more valuable sets. The new Death Star could end up being 4000 pieces at $349.99 and still be smaller than the 10188.
