  2. Was looking in my parents loft at the weekend and found an old box of Lego, so my son and I had a bespoke building session! The jet looks like it may have once been set 6368 and the fire station set 6382. Either way these sets are some of the first I can remember as a kid and therefore my first owned, was good to recreate some fond memories!

  3. It took 10 weeks to crack this set open, but we finally broke down and built the Ferris Wheel on the weekend. What an awful, repetitive build but there is really is no alternative when you are building something like this and this is probably true for manufacturing a real life Ferris Wheel as well. This set is a gorgeous display piece, with a really nice selection of minifigures and I currently have it in the middle of a block of modular buildings as it towers over the people ready for a mechanical malfunction to annihilate my town! (that or a Stay Puft AKA toddler attack) I will add alternative colors to the carriages but they haven't arrived yet.

  4. I think the non-direct fees cost cannot be understated, but every person chooses to view them different. Time and gas to drive to "5+" Lego stores presents an additional cost. Shipping supplies is another cost for such a big item that you want handled properly. Risk of being mishandled in the mail/returned is a potential cost that should be considered. Not much opportunity cost since the money is back to you so quickly. On the other side, if you used several VIP accounts in the purchases you could have ~$150 in VIP points. If you got a fountain with each, you could easily clear $15-20 on each of those to help net another $150-200. Everyone looks at the QF differently, and to each his or her own. I hope you got what you wanted out of your transactions @toni8284

  5. Finally finished Defense of Hoth with my 5 year old. Displays nice with the rest of the Hoth sets.

  6. I would just like to point out that you just told the owner of the most comprehensive database of privately-held death stars in the world, that there are too many hoarded.

  7. I just hope everyone is somewhere they can easily change their drawers when the pics are leaked.

  9. Now I understand what you are trying to say. Thanks for the explanation. So for conclusion , I net around $60 each after all expenses. I will stop on this topic for now

  10. Thanks to Foxhound for pointing this out in the Retired Product Update thread. Adding it to here for future reference. Officially retired in the US. I'm a happy camper. Hoping the ride up will be fast and wild, but I'm patient if it isn't.

  11. Before Prometheus came out, I thought it was going to be one of the best movies ever. I got an opening night ticket in IMAX 3-D. It was not one of the best movies ever...the characters act insanely and the plot jumps around as if two movies were merged together. I know they brought in that hack from "Lost" Lindelof who rewrote parts of the script, bringing in christian themes and such, and I think they just made it too quickly. The visuals are awesome. The story is a mess.

  12. Built this bad boy over the weekend. I was up until 1:30 on Saturday night working on it. I thought about making the final push that night to finish but decided I had had one too many whiskey's at that point. Good thing I didn't, my 3 year old was up at 6:15 ready to go!!! TF looks way better than I thought it would. Now I have to figure out what to build next, Slave 1, Ferris Wheel, or start down the Modular rabbit hole!

  13. Late "luck": (3) boxes of 71014 LEGO DFB Series for € 143.40 each.

  14. I was 6 years old. First set, not my pic though. My grandpa thought that standard LEGO is too childish, so he bought this. Apparently, as it turns out this is one of the (if not the most) hardest to assemble Technic sets of all time.

  15. The first LEGO set I can remember building was 6207 A-Wing Fighter. (I'm only 18, was about 8 at the time)

  16. I sold 2 on CL for 450 each... net around 250 total... almost pay for 1 set for my own...

  17. Showing respect used to go hand in hand with being respected. Unfortunately, in today culture, the more disrespect that you can show to others, the more respect society seems to give you.

  18. Very well written post SFC. The older I get, the more valuable time is to me. I'd rather be spending time with the kids or going golfing, etc. We don't know Toni's situation, so like SFC said, the way non-direct fees/cost are viewed differ for each person.

  20. Events in present day T2 was before the future in T1 and I am going to stop there. It was more of a joke hence the Time travel movies are best not to be looked at closely.

  22. There were some disappointing moments for me from this movie but I always find the Alien universe so intriguing. I am excited to see what they do with Alien: Covenant next year. Fassbender's character was solid and I'm glad to see him back.

  23. I dug out my modest AT-DP supply the other day and decided to pack them away again. It's a big, beautiful box, and I won't let mine go for such today's tiny margins. $100 or bust.

  24. So everyone buys 1/mo X 24 mo X 10,000 members .. Yeah that sounds like a great plan for the set to appreciate ...

  26. This was my very very first set, a polybag that I remember putting together sitting in the shopping cart while my mom did her shopping. I was probably 4? But then the next year I got a proper set. Of course I wanted the Skull's Eye, but this satisfied many a pirate adventure for years following!

  27. Come on dude, $5 bucks is $5 bucks.

  28. Picked up a NIB 7957 Sith Nightspeeder for $24 (+$5 shipping) on eBay. My kids have been clamoring for the Savage Oppress mini-figure ever since seeing it in the Lego SW Character Encyclopedia. I'll probably hold onto it and give it to them for Christmas. (Although knowing me its equally likely I will find another used set by then and end up saving the NIB one for my collection.)

  30. Come on, digging up Ed's original post from the depths of Tower Bridge thread was impressive, too.

  31. During yesterday's sale offer I purchased two more 76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle for roughly 72€ each or 28% off RRP. First and foremost I want these for the nice bridge segments. So I hope to recoup a good portion of the initial cost through the excess minifigures. Also got a 75151 SW Clone Turbo Tank for around 83€ (primarily for the minifigs) and a 76045 Kryptonite Interception for 24€.

  33. She does not really complain too much, just takes note of the how often boxes are arriving. All my Lego purchases in the last few months came from money me trying my hand at Options trading. I had the opportunity to buy a couple of the new Porsche 911 sets but decided to pass on them at the Lego store. Not sure if I am ready to go down the investing rabbit hole yet. For now I am happy just building and reading the BP forum. I am afraid that investing may take some of the fun out of it for me. This is similar to my reasoning why I never take commission work for people who want me to build them something (woodworking is my first hobby). I do however try to take advantage of promotions when they have them. I have two extra creator fountains and various other promotional polybags, that I am hoping to use in a trade for a GE in the near future. My wife is getting ready to start a business and I am going to take care of a lot the behind the scenes computer and inventory work that has to take place. As long as the business is making money, then I will get a little kickback every month for my Lego and Woodworking habits. Not a bad trade off!

  34. Built this today. Quick and easy. About 100 pieces left for an alternate layout.

  35. I think they will have no difficulties. The issue is that only a few sets can be accepted with such a price. DS is one of them. 400 GBP is what I would expect. Anything below that would be underwhelming and get the Hoth treatment from the community.

  38. Born in 1981. I had a few mid-80's City, Space, and Castle as my "first", but only recognize them randomly when I stumble across them. The one that I do vividly recall as my earliest favorite was this beauty below. It was the first vintage set I went out and hunted down on Ebay when I came out of my dark ages back in 2013. Was able to get it for $25 - a bargain given the sentimental value - and it's been "refurbished" (all parts cleaned to perfection, faded ones replaced, etc), and displayed prominently in on display shelves ever since (of course, it's come to be surrounded by over 200 other childhood sets I've reacquired the past few years).

  39. Sounds pretty similar to most anyone who comes out of their dark ages. I dropped about $5k in my first 6-12 months. Trust me, eventually your wife WILL take notice. You're in a race against the clock, my friend. You need to start transitioning to selling just enough to give yourself a viable "I'm not just buying, I'm investing and reselling!" defense. Then you can downplay the 5 boxes a month that show up, and make a big show out of the 1 that you ship out. If my calculations are correct, that'll get you into Q1 2018 before she calls out your lopsided expense/income ledger. But thats future-cubfan78's problem to deal with, don't worry about that guy, he'll figure something out.

  40. I wouldn't take anything like that as a certainty. Don't forget that AoH is basically advertising the retired AT-AT in the instruction manual. We've had similar cases in the past.

  41. The first set I can remember getting was also 6080 King’s Castle. Best Christmas ever! I got it back from my mom a few years ago, minus a few minifigures and the original box. She even kept the mail-in catalog.

  42. This was the first set I bought on my own with my paper route money. I swear it was like $50 back in 1986. I think I had a small space set from my parents before this one.
