  1. My latest restoration project. This was a tough one. I had to do a fair amount of substitution because the large dark blue plates are non-existent. Only one of the substitute pieces is noticeable on the roof. Also the windshield wipers. I was able to hide the others pretty well. Before and after pictures showing what I got and the finished product. The stickers are high quality replacements I got from a guy in Australia.

  2. My son finished his 75053 The Ghost that he got for his birthday. His first major build to do by himself (he's 6). The kids are huge Rebels fans, so he loves it!

  4. To take this a step further, NO retailer to my knowledge will price match clearance prices. And for good, logical reason.

  9. Build this over the last few days, picked it up for £300 so happy. Quicker build than I expected, but looks fantastic. Bit big though, doesn't fit on my shelf without removing the top section of the tower.

  13. I thought it was awful at the time, and I still believe that LEGO destroyed the Friends line by going from the more wholesome pastel style, to the darker BRATZ style.

  20. I would assume that at 6 yrs old the EV3 programmable sets might be a bit much. I would start with the basic motor ones (non programmable), and let him work his way up. Search Educational & Dacta, and then Mindstorms, RCX, NXT, & then EV3.

  22. Two months later, and I'm still loving this set... and now $38.39 on Amazon... it's killin' me. Seems like a great value. But I have zero in my inventory right now. Seems like all retailers have plenty of stock. If it got a little scarce this Christmas, it might go back to full retail, but they'd have to go higher for me to make any money on these. Sure I could hold them for a few years, and hope there's demand after EOL... but I don't feel that good about this set.

  23. I had the pleasure to see the exhibit in New York two years ago, and to preview the brand new Seattle exhibit on Thursday night. It is a fantastic show, and the Pacific Science Center has used a large exhibition space for the show, allowing ample space to walk around the 3D art pieces and see them from multiple perspectives. The show opens this Saturday, 5/28 and will remain in Seattle through September 11th.The gallery begins with LEGO re-creations of famous paintings and sculpture. One of my favorites was “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”I have prepared a preview and gallery of the Seattle exhibit at my website. The article includes photos of about 1/3 of the art on display at the show, and includes my thoughts on the favorite pieces in the exhibit. The highlight of the show are the creative sculptures, usually featuring human forms and complex subjects, such as his most famous work which is simply titled "Yellow".The exhibit explores three main themes: LEGO re-creations of famous artworks, unique sculptures by artist Nathan Sawaya, and some mixed-media and performance art pieces. It is a large exhibit which you will need at least an hour to fully appreciate. He is also famous for performance art pieces where he decorated his home city of New York with these "Hugman" sculptures. The exhibit closes with a unique piece which he created just for Seattle. I do show photos of that piece on my website, but aren't showing them here in case you don't want to be spoiled!LINK: http://brickarchitect.com/2016/art-of-the-brick/ It is an exhibit that is not to be missed. It is simultaneously a fantastic LEGO show, and a serious art exhibit by a talented sculptor. This exhibit has something for everyone! Sincerely,Tom AlphinTom is the author of the book The LEGO Architect, 2015, No Starch Press.

  32. DO & BB should have at least a year of shelf life left on them. The PC - and to a lesser degree PR - are the two that nobody would be shocked to see hit EOL by the end of the summer.

  33. I feel like I have to PSA this... This is a big deal in lots of parts; mainly in your pants. I won't go into the trials of a good friend who discovered his colon cancer at 42. He is very close to leaving behind a wife and two young boys. Get your butt checked, people. It's 5 minutes of discomfort that might save your life. ...after school special over. Please return to your normal frivolity.

  38. So I was finally able to find someone to help develop a plugin for a sticky post that will be great for this thread. The daily deals will now have the updated list like we used to at the top of each page. To make it less annoying to you frequent visitors, it skip past that post as you go from page to page, but you can scroll up at anytime to see it. It is better than it used to be because it will be on every page and you will not need to go back to the first post of the day all the time to get the latest updates. Hopefully you find it useful.
