Even bought some sets on Friday night and sold them on Saturday. A few notes about the sale Friends were a hot seller. Girls really liked those and having a selection was important. Duplos also were another hot seller – could have sold more if I had them. I sold CHIMA!!!! - $281 worth. It was nice to move some of that. Enough to almost cover my sand crawler. Now that is an upgrade in my mind I ran for three days this year. Last year I ran for two and since it went so well I increased it to three days this year. Super hero sets did not sell this year. Last year they flew off the shelves. Never assume what will sell. Have a selection so they can go through everything. Collector sets hardly ever sell. Really, only sold two sets that reached “collector status” in both years I have done this. You can sell current sets if the price is right (falcon, shuttle, etc.) So, anyway I took my profit and put it towards the family vacation and started to reinvest the original investment. So far – I have purchased three brick bounties from a local mom and pop shop that still had them at retail (99.99) per, a sand crawler (which I bought for May the fourth), a Tyridium shuttle, a deep sea helicopter, a rhino vs. sandman, nether fortress, desert outpost, general Grievous, batboat harbor pursuit, helicopter pursuit (2), and a boulder blaster. My moral, if you can do it, those small sets do payoff if you can sell them en masse. My second garage sale allows me to do it. Not everything has to be sold as small sets but if you sell 50 of them then that profit and effort is worth it. My second moral, if someone is willing to buy Chima – Sell it!!! Sell it quick and when they come back to buy another $100 worth of chima don’t let them see you do the “I’m selling my Chima happy dance.” - JUST SELL IT!!!! In case you were wondering 60117 was given to my wife to give to a friend. I counted it as a sale but hat is why it is a Zero

  6. Minecraft The Farm is $16.79 at target before red card - MSRP is $29.99. crafting box is $35 - the cave - 12.79 even the loathsome ender dragon is looking attractive at 47% off msrp with red card. it's nice that target is discounting some of their already discounted base prices. snagged 2 HST's for my kids LEGO town.

  11. It's actually 30% off. RRP on the Lighthouse is $49.99. (I know Target is showing their regular price at $40.99 and then 15% off of that is $34.84). (No, I'm not doing the calculations to check and see that's correct. Close enough for gov't work).

  13. Well I obviously FAIL at LEGO. Putting together my bricklinked 10212 (so having to use printed out instructions). My excuse is cheaping out on ink but I've got to the stand and seem to have 2 4x1 dark grey bits left when I actually require black ones. Worrying thing is I also have 2 x 1x6 dark grey ones in my pile as well which i'm sure shouldn't be right. Will I be OCD enough to take apart the shuttle and see where I went wrong? Absolutely epic model though and HUGE - dwarfs tiny Jango Santa. I'd heard the thing was big but I reckon it'll be the corner stone of my display. Fun build and I didn't actually find it repetitive at all. I knew it would be up there but having one put together its firmly in my top 5 sets. .

  20. Going back to the OP no-ones mentioned the elephant in the room - this site. Im not sure how many tens of thousands of members there are but for anyone wondering what brickvesting is all about then a quick google search will lead you here, and there you have it, pretty much all the information at your fingertips. Long gone are days of using your own initiative, searching sold prices on eBay and taking your own risks - it's all here and most are success stories. All you need is the cash and away you go. Why wouldn't anyone want a piece of the action? Maybe it's time this site went subscription only? (I'll get my hard hat!!!)

  21. Amiibos are no LEGO sets. Just like Beanie Babies are no LEGO sets. The Super Hero theme is a weak one for the most part. The counterfeiting of Super Hero minifigure is a factor. Not every set is a winner. I thought the AA would be a winner as well. Might be...one day. Slow day at work.

  22. Welcome to the site...Why would LEGO releasing a record amount of unique sets be bad for LEGO investing? Wouldn't that open up more opportunities for people to find sets that aren't stockpiled? I think you vastly overestimate what people have. LEGO sets are just too expensive to stockpile in numbers like you are assuming. There are a handful of people out there who can and are vocal about doing so, but this is the vast minority do not. I am not saying that things are as good as they once were, but you are basically writing off the entire LEGO phenomena and future generation's interest in the best toy ever produced.

  23. So finally all my Mannschaft figures are delivered. They came from 6 different orders, 4 at Mytoys.de and 2 from Lego. A total of 92 figures gave me one complete series. That was dissappointing, but I just couldn't get my hands on a complete box. After some trading I now have 2 complete series. I'm still trading so I'm hopefull I'll have another one by Tuesday. Luckily I do have 3 keepers. That one is being sought by everyone.

  25. I'm sorry but the current Lego market screams of speculation. Lego is on track to release a record number of different sets this year across all popular themes...and why shouldn't they? If people are buying ten of each set for so called investment reasons, why not make even more sets which in turn equal more sales? I love the people on this forum claiming that the Lego speculative bubble won't ever burst because you could always just sell the parts on Bricklink. Do you have any idea just how competitive it has become within the last year? The amount of work just now is almost not worth it especially with sellers getting lots at flea markets and yard sales and undercutting other sellers by pennies on the dollar. Imagine what would happen if sets had to be parted out and sold due to the speculative bubble bursting. The prices of most bricks would go to $0.01 each. If you can get retired sets for less than retail why would anyone be buying parts en masse? Make no mistake about it the part out values on Bricklink are nothing but pure fantasy even if you are going by the six month average of sold sale prices. It may take decades before you sell all those pieces! 2013 was the last good year for Lego investing. Now everyone and their mother is doing it. It is going to take a few good sets to retire and not sell above retail for the bubble to start bursting. Rest assured, it is all downhill soon enough... How many Ewok Villages and Sandcrawlers are sitting in unopened condition just waiting for...waiting for what exactly? Retirement? If everyone is holding them why would that even matter? The Death Star is really disappointing a lot of people, but one has to ask how stupid they could be for thinking a $400 set in production for 8 years was going to be a mass seller (post retirement). Sure, the smart ones were lucky to buy in at $299 a set and are now able to make a profit. Factor in eBay and PayPal fees (or Amazon fees) and you would have to sell at $600 to make a decent profit if your buy in was at $400 a set! Now with Disney in charge of the Star Wars franchise you can be sure that releases are going to be albeit certain and very few people are going to care about retired sets when a new version is right around the corner. Time will tell. Time will tell. It always does... I just don't want to be one of those unfortunate fools who has to sell 1,000,000 plus pieces on Bricklink while undercutting my competition just to take a loss on a mass storage shed full of retired product that no one wants. It is coming; oh yes, it is coming...

  40. If 10188 had a normal 2-3 year run I could get on board with that theory. But having been around for so long the market for 75159 would be stale from day one. Personally I think a refresh is the least likely outcome. My thinking...TLG is expecting this to take over as the flagship Star Wars set for the next 3+ years. This is the set that will sit in the window to make everyone who just saw the movie drool and come into the store. Then they see the $500 price tag and buy something else :). Regardless of this turns out to be a play set or a display piece (or a hybrid), it has to be good or I'd think Star Wars sales in general will slump.

  42. Not disagreeing with your overall post, but maybe, just maybe, Tower Bridge and the T1 VW Camper Van have stayed around because they're really cool Lego sets which sell well and they're ageless so new afols are always going to want them. You do know also, that when you talk about the horde, that really we're all part of that horde.

  43. Maybe not as much of a problem as a disappointment. I'm a collector first, and not ashamed to admit that. As a collector, I'd like to hope that my portfolio of personal sets continues to consistently grow in value. Honestly, I probably won't sell even half of what I've purchased because I value those sets like I do my art, sports Memorabilia and historical treasures. It is nice to know that I could sell them at some point if I wanted or needed to and come out ahead. If over hoarding / market saturation lead to a situation where exclusive sets don't appreciate strongly anymore, I'd probably have to reevaluate the sizeable chunk of change I throw down each month on my personal collection. As a reseller, I can probably adapt and overcome and continue to make a profit. My best gains so far haven't been from large or exclusive sets. I'm just not sure that I have the extra time to devote to doing it well, and doing it half-a** is a recipe for disaster.

  44. I tried to spread them out over a variety of themes. Here are the top ten iconic sets from my childhood to present day: 1. 6769 Fort Legoredo - Western 2. 5571 Giant Truck- Model Team 3. 10188 Death Star- Star Wars 4. 8880 Supercar- Technic 5. 6071 Forestmen's Crossing- Castle 6. 4558 Metroliner - Trains 7. 928 Space Cruiser and Moonbase - Space 8. 10182 Cafe Corner - Modulars 9. 6285 Black Seas Barracuda - Pirates 10. 9474 The Battle of Helm's Deep- LOTR I believe these to be the defining sets for each theme

  45. In random order: Statue of Liberty because it was the first of the big landmarks Taj Mahal UCS Millenium Falcon Cafe Corner because it started the modulars. Prefer Green Grocer because better interior though. Green Grocer. Best modular in my book although Parisian Restaurant and Pet Shop come close. Black Seas Barracuda. My favorite set as a kid although only my cousin had it. Did get the reissue though. Emerald Night. Nicest train. Tower Bridge. Battle of Helm's Deep. I have tower of Orthanc too, and it's amazing. But Helm's Deep just depicts a better scene from the movie. Nr. 10 undecided.Haunted House, camper van, another modular, Orthanc, all good candidates.
