  1. Hey Folks! So as you all know Dimensions came out with the Portal 2 level pack. I have long been a huge Portal fan and love the games. The writing/humour/gameplay is beyond anything else I've played. There was an Ideas project that ended up not making it into a final product: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/18258 which i was really rooting for. So when the Dimensions set came out i decided i would try to replicate this design so i could properly display the awesome Chell minifig. I also intend to make a GlaDOS that will hang in the top of a detolf (tops of detolfs have a hole) without all the support brackets used in the Ideas design. Below is the progress I've made so far and i will continue to update as i make more progress and when it's all finished and displayed. I am awaiting parts to round it out a bit plus the parts for GlaDOS, and have taken a few creative liberties from the original Ideas set. There are no instructions for this available (that i saw) so it's all done by eye and tedious part counting. I have not made it modular like the original Ideas design intended, and the back side is abnormally ugly right now that i may eventually cover up with plates. Problems I've encountered (aside from the old: "Dammit, i swore i ordered enough of these pieces!"): - The sentry turret from the Dimensions set is way too big, i'll need to make a few micro ones which i have yet to get parts for. - Getting customs stickers to fit on LEGO bricks is hard (i went with stickers instead of brickbuilding the chamber sign). - Couldn't find a "swamp" like colour to simulate the gross water found in test chambers. - Not sure how to come at making the portals themselves, i may just not include them. - GlaDOS is a very odd design, I've gone with a different one than the Ideas design and the parts are on the way. - Not sure how to connect the floor pieces with the 2 walls, however i may not even need to for display purposes. A bit of the modular nature of the set. However nowhere near as modular as the designer's model. The back needs some serious work haha, plates of all sizes and colours! but they were just from my personal stash until i figured out what i needed. And finally this is the top of the walls that i am waiting for tiles pieces to arrive to cover up the Technic bits, and a few more of the Technic squares to replace some basic bricks on the right side to make it more flush. Updates will come as i get more pieces in the mail Thanks for looking!

  4. These lists no matter how loosely translated have been considerably accurate in general looking back at past series but of course a few will change a bit term wise when closer to release. "Steering wheel warrior" sounds hilariously awesome but the "winged warrior" sounds somewhat more logical and may fit within the upcoming Nexo Knights theme. Harpy might have made more sense if mythological unless they are going for a Flash Gordon approach which I see Locutus pointed out. Haha. Only with The Chronicles of Narnia have I heard a Satyr called a Faun except in the case about the female equivalent of a Satyr. Shark Costume Guy looks great and exactly as I imagined, Jewel Thief to me somehow sounds like it will be a woman, everyone knows how much I love my robots so that's a given for me, we already had an Evil Knight with Series 7 therefore this Scary Knight must be different in some way, Astronaut and Kendo Warrior have been done before but I missed Series 1 in the first place as I imagine many others did as well so this will be nice. Still the best Jaws parody skit in the history of ever.

  5. I just wanted to share an idea with adding pull out drawers with stack on's on them to my current storage shelves. Before I made the shelf unit I could only fit 2 stack on's per shelf now I I can do 4. It cost me $17 for the 2 sets of full extension drawer guides and all the lumber I had in my garage. I took a few hours over a couple days to build. Next time I build them I will make the base a little bit more narrow.

  7. Yes, but not because we think that someone will accidentally buy one. 1. Search hits lead shoppers to look at (and buy) other items you have listed. So having inventory listed at prices way above current averages can draw traffic. 2. If you have a large inventory, listing it with your target price allows you to "set it and forget it" rather than monitoring average prices on dozens of SKUs and listing when it gets close to your target. Parking them as active listings allows the market to catch up to your price at some point in the future. 3. The more sellers that have active items at their target price, the more likely that new sellers will list at higher prices if they research current listings. It creates a tendency to pull up the average price more quickly after retirement. That's why you usually see an immediate jump in price rather than a slow climb. In other words, you're unlikely to find a $100 RRP set selling for $105 after retirement (TRU excluded), but may see it jump from $100 to $150, then slow climb from there. 4. eBay generally offers large quantities of free fixed price listings to sellers, so there is negligible cost to have sets sit out there active for months.

  9. It would seem the Hot Wheels/Matchbox sized LEGO sets of 2005-2011 inspired a style of small sleek street rods across the community. Some pretty good usage with so few parts in my opinion. 11. I received something similar the other day. I had gotten paid, everything checked out as far as Paypal and eBay were concerned - I was sending to a confirmed address. I was a little concerned because the eBay account holder name and the name I was sending to didn't match. I got an open case on the payment, but it was closed (by the buyer) a few hours later. I decided to go ahead and ship it. Sure enough, about a week after delivery, and just a couple of days ago, I got that note. Turns out the buyer opened a case again, that they weren't the ones that bought it. I was refunded my fees, and it was suggested that I try to cancel the shipment. But, having been delivered a week prior, that wasn't going to happen. It sucks because it was a FB that sold for $425. Yes, I have my money, but it was flat out stolen. I'd rather have sold it to someone that was going to legitimately do something with it, then some lowlife that now has their paws on it. Considering they paid nothing for it, a quick for them will net them a pretty penny. Meanwhile, all of us honest folk pay for it with higher interest rates, higher eBay and PayPal fees, etc.

  13. I think the entire Lord of the Rings theme is going to be a success. When you look at what some of the first wave sets like Shelob Attacks, Wizard Battle, Uruk-hai Army, and Gandalf Arrives are doing now a year after full retirement (all these sets are over 100% rrp), I think that bodes well for what the second wave with TOO, Council of Elrond, Black Gate, and Pirate Ship Ambush will do next year after they are gone for over a year. Sure, some sets like Helms Deep, Orc Forge, Weathertop, and the Mines of Moria haven't gone far over 50% yet, but you should expect some variance in a full theme. Still, no one is losing money if they bought these when they were at retail...

  14. I try to keep quiet on this guy but he is really clueless. Everything is $5 profit. Nobody is making $5 on any Jurassic world set. Do a Google search on Amazon FBA so you are educated that not everybody sells on ebay. That is so 90's. Here is real world scenario. And I have discussed often how it only costs .50 for shipping. I just sold 12 RE in last 24hrs for 84.97. That is real profit minus my snickers bar I ate.

  21. Yesterday was the biggest single day I've had so far: Maersk EEE for $250The 6 JW sets bundled for $650City Cargo Terminal for $165Full set of 12 Star Wars Microfighters $1602015 Bricktober set $103After having stagnate sales on Ebay for awhile I've been trying their 50% off FVF for promotion-based sales. I have a 5% discount set up for sales over $75, so I'm not really losing any money. I don't know if it's the promotion, the season, or something else, but I've had several good sales on Ebay over the past week or so since I added the 5% off.

  22. Did a minor run today, and hit 2 targets, 3 walmarts, and 1 TRU. Interestingly, the 2014 vader box sets are missing in action at all the walmarts in my region, but I found 3 AT-AT's, and 1 ISD scattered at 1 target. Only saw one cantina in all stores. I'm figuring these sets are nearing the end of their retail life, so now is the time to pounce on a few more if you can use coupons/discounts. The ep7, and 2015 sets were all there and present. I passed on the Vader Box sets at Target. Instead, I found a few at a TRU, and found a single ISD left on the shelf, where I used my points, and then price matched the 149.99 cost down to 104.99, and then applied 25 in rewards points to get one for 79.99 (pre-tax). It will be interesting to see if TRU will get more ISD's in, but I don't want to risk it at this point, and will continue to buy and apply points on these sets now. My goal is to have 7 of these when they retire. Right now i'm at 5. Also, on the shelf was one minty mint Walle. That was the first time I saw that, so, I bought it too. The 20% off coupon worked it's magic on that set and surprisingly it was at retail, and didn't have the typical markup. They wouldn't let me apply the 20% coupon on the ISD since I price matched. But, now is the time to price match at TRU, if they have those sets in stock. Over the last week, i've also acquired 2 more LToP's, and a PR.

  32. The last times they did this trade-a-fig thing, they started with new bulk minifigs but the idea was to trade one for one and that's it. If you went late in the day, you were picking through earlier trades - of which sometimes people were leaving very valuable figs without knowing. This is a little different as they're saying NEW but where are they getting polybag stock from then? Just seems weird. Might swing by with a crappy dupe or two just to see if anything good is there.

  34. Well I did build this set and it's a pretty enjoyable build! (Or better three builds!) The birds look very nice on display and I really wanted to build them when I saw this set. But I can understand how this set might not be as appealing as other ideas sets. There is no real fan base (other than ornithologist maybe ^^) and all in all the set is nothing "special" (no fancy minifigs included). Personally I think this is the weakest ideas set right now (maybe even of all). I still can see people wanting this set later on and paying 50-100% on top of the RRP. In any case it is a beautiful set.

  38. To add to the conversation, this set is a head turner. It's unlike any other set made by lego. I know many people who feel the same as myself. I'm not a LOTR fan either. I don't hate it. I simply haven't given the books or movies any time. Despite that, it transcends the fact that I could care less about LOTR. I plan to keep one of the ones I bought. Perhaps I'm being simple minded about it, but that's why I'm investing in this one. I think It's going to be a big winner in the long run. But I'm not relying on a quick turnaround to generate income off of this like some of the people on this site. This is a hobby to me. I'll use the proceeds of sales to pay for other sets that I want. So my investment strategy is to either grab the sets that truly stand out or ones that are such an awesome deal, I can't possibly lose. This one stands out.

  39. I don't mean this to be offensive to Tabby or anyone else, but any one of us who gets caught/banned or whatever, we really have no right to complain - or be shocked. We know the policies and risks, and we take chances playing with fire. Tabby, in particular - you bought 99 of one particular set. If you don't see that this is not something a normal consumer would do - I just can't really believe you are shocked and outraged. yes, maybe it took a long time for them to notice - But it's like a lot of things in life. Employers, businesses, governments, journalists, spouses, let little things go (and stack up, but keep notes) and then when they need a reason to - bammo. They have the ammo. So who knows why they didn't ban you before. But their policy clearly states they don't want to sell to resellers. They have targeted you as a reseller, which regardless of proof, is accurate. It's weird to me that people expect LEGO, simply because they are a company, to be blind deaf and dump and put up with stuff we as individuals would not. Similarly, someone who buys 99x of a $150 set, I don't think that makes you a small fry. That's a $15,000 purchase. That's a new car. It's not Emazers numbers, but it's "more than a side hobby" numbers. I'd bet $15,000 in a year is more than 90% of the people on this site spend. And again, this all HELPS US (except those who get caught, and really even those people). The fact that LEGO cares at all helps keep demand high and prices high, and prevents REAL big time guys (like the overseas knock off creators) from doing the same sort of thing en-masse. LEGO cares about their brand name and image. They, even more than all of us, have a very strong interest in keeping their product exclusive, expensive, and in demand. And as Ed mentioned, especially in Europe where they have already announced there will be shortages this year, I expect a crackdown on suspect/actual resellers.

  47. Yes. You should liquidate everything you own and buy all the Tie Fighters you can find and do so TODAY! This is clearly going to be the biggest curveball that TLG has ever thrown at resellers because what multi-billion dollar company doesn't spend millions of dollars of its production, distribution, and advertising dollars on a flagship product only to kill it within months of release.
