  1. I've had this idea for awhile now, and wanted to share it all with you. (Yes, I know there's already a thread speculating about a new carousel, but maybe we can put all of those types of threads into here?) There's been talk that, with the addition of the Ferris Wheel, to go along with the Fairground Mixer, that LEGO is starting a fairground theme. And they may very well be. But I'd like to suggest that there's already a pretty robust "secret" fairground theme going - you just have to know where to look. So, what I'd like to do share some ideas for either MOC'ing your own fairground, or bundling items together to help promote a fairground theme for your sales. 1. 10224 Fairground Mixer Of course, the first in the potentially new line of fairground pieces. 2. 10247 Ferris Wheel The 2015 release. This is what has us excited that there is an "official" fairground or "summer destination" theme (similar to the Winter Village?) 3. 6851 Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape Although it's just a building facade, the Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape offers, well, a funhouse that could be added to any fairground. Remove the Batman minifigs and the Joker markings, and this looks like any other funhouse at any other fairground. Or keep the Joker markings, and turn your fairground into the Gotham City Fairground. 4. 76035 Jokerland Jokerland, a 2015 entry, has all the hallmarks of a fairground, between the little duck Ferris Wheel, the bouncing ride, the dunk tank, and the high-wire show. Again, theme it without the Batman theme, and you'll be fine. Add the Batman theme, and you've got your Gotham City Fairgrounds really moving now. 5. 70804 Ice Cream Truck From the LEGO Movie, this little truck is perfect as a food truck. And who doesn't want ice cream when they go to the fair? 6. 10235 Winter Village Market Yes, it's Winter themed. But, you have a small carousel, three food stands, and carnival game. You would have to do some retheming/changing of colors a little bit to bring this into more of a summer carnival/fairground feel. 7. 40078 Hot Dog Stand Gotta have a hot dog stand at the fair. 8. 40108 Balloon Cart Gotta buy your balloons at the fair, too. 9. 30314 Go-Kart Racer Pick up a few of these little racers, and you can create a small go-kart track at the fair. Whether it's a kiddie ride version, or one for the adult, it's bound to be fun. Throw in a road base plate to give it even more of a racing feel. 10. 30303 The Joker Bumper Car Bumper cars. What fair doesn't have bumper cars? Extremely hard to find (as of June 2015), but if you can get this/build this (and even change the colors around to different models), you would do well to have this at your fair. (You're probably going to have to MOC a bumper car ride area though). The rest of these sets are small little polybags or small little sets that are pretty self-explanatory. Most of them are also Friends sets, which are a great source of sets for building out this theme. 11. 41092 Stephanie's Pizzeria 12. 8398 BBQ Stand 13. 30106 Ice Cream Stand 14. 30113 Stephanie's Bakery Stand 15. 41027 Mia's Lemonade Stand 16. 41030 Olivia's Ice Cream Bike 17. 30203 Mini Golf 18. 41098 Emma's Tourist Kiosk 19. 3930 Stephanie's Outdoor Bakery 20. 30112 Emma's Flower Stand 21. 30202 Smoothie Stand 22. 30204 Wish Fountain 23. 41105 Pop Star Show Stage 24. (Honorable Mention) 10196 Grand Carousel It's been awhile since this set has been out. It's a thing of beauty. It's also extremely expensive. So - you in or are you out? Please suggest other things to make this post better.

  4. I'd love to see Lego continue this 'subtheme'. How about they make the next train set a fairground roller-coaster?! As for current sets that fit the theme park idea, something that came to my mind was using the arcade and drink machines from the Kwik-E-Mart, or rebuilding them with differnt color combos, to create an arcade room.

  9. If you’re going city and want those little extras; there is the Service Truck (60073) for the portable toilet. The Juniors Garbage Truck (10680) for the dumpster and maybe the Garbage Truck (30313) poly. There a few sets with slides, e.g. 41038: Jungle Rescue Base, 41008: Heartlake City Pool. But you’d really need to MOC something.

  12. A lot of aussie sellers seem to use "Bricks" in their name, so maybe that would be better to use something more ambiguous to avoid potential trouble. On a side note, I have been abused by devout "religious" types for the use of my name, so can't win either way I'd kill to see the look on their face when I reply and let them know that my ID is after my horrible hound (Lucifer the Beagle)

Mind you i have not watched this series since the first couple seasons. Can't find a set number to add to the title, but if someone else knows it and can edit go for it!

  15. Personally, I got most of my HD's for between 60-75, so if I were to sell TODAY, I'd still call this a huge win. I sold my Uruk-Hai Armies this Christmas and did fine, but they are $20 more now than they were just 5 months ago. My basic strategy involves 2 years after SAH availability, and Helms' Deep is November of this year for that mark. I have no doubt these will hit $250, and rising more than that I don't think is out of the question. As far as when to dump. the same kind of applies to me - Alien Motherships are the most recent set I "dumped" (and basically broke even) - This past holiday season. Same deal, they passed 2 years retirement, and really hadn't moved. I gave up. 7962 PodRacers were kind of the same deal, they just didn't move much over the last year I had them, so I moved them (still at a profit) but not as much as I planned when I bought them. Monster Fighers will be hitting 2 years in Nov for the most part too, and I admit I am pretty surprised/disappointed in this sets growth. I felt it would do better than it has, but similarly, if I sold all of my stuff I'd still make some money, just not quite as much as I had planned. We'll see how it goes this holiday season. Obviously, needing the money for other investments is a factor as well. If I really feel money would be better spent elsewhere, I'll make a move. But as part of my general business plan, I'd rather make X amount of percentage on my purchase as opposed to needing to sell after a specific date - but I think that plan really requires more of a devil may care attitude and more cash reserves than I currently have. And there are exceptions, Tie Fighter 9492 had only been gone 8 months by Christmas, but I moved all of mine because I tripled my investment. I figured that was pretty good, and maybe the set will contiue to grow, but I doubt it will grow much more that it made it worth holding on to at that point. I felt the growth of other sets would be better. I assume everyone has their own plan and goals and thresholds. Some people I've noticed dump stuff really fast, others dont mind holding on forever. There's opportunity cost and time cost to factor in to constantly flipping, or holding on to sets. As I've said several times, I think it's most important to simply have a plan and some numbers to prevent yourself from overspending and getting into a tight spot. The worst time to sell (or buy) anything is when you need to.

  20. I do see your point on the Valentine's and Easter Eggs. Even though these are 'seasonal', with it being a generic cake, it can/will see at anytime of the year, rather than at Easter or Valentine's day. If they sell out quickly, you aren't necessarily sitting on them waiting to sell during the appropriate season - and that in itself might be worth buying up a few. I was looking at getting 10 or so and still get the free Winter Soldier minifig (flip for the cost of two cakes).

  26. I think the coffee stand from the new City Square set could fit in nicely too. It is easily modded into any kind of refreshment stand you might want. And also the tram from the same set could be a cool addition for transporting people from the parking lot to the fairgrounds.

  28. I'm not going to go into all the different minifigs that would be appropriate, but I always thought Hot Dog Man would go great with the Hot Dog Stand. Another possibility for a MOC, those little spheres that are in the Jurassic World sets You could have four or five of them in a little "bumper car" type area.

  32. I picked up this set about a year ago. No real clue what it is and I don’t want to highjack the thread getting into the details on it. The board is 48*48, with the figs mounted on a 2*2 to center them and has a small surround. It's fairly effective but compared to the standard chess sets, it is pretty big.

  33. Well, in the German summer catalogue PR is still promoted together with PC and DO. The only exclusive sets to be omitted were PS, Ewok Village, Tower of Orthanc and Metalbeard's Seacow. Maybe those sets will EOL soon, or maybe not, who knows?

  34. He was a main character in the Captain America movie last year and they made no sets to go with that movie. It seems like the customs and knock offs were selling really well. The ones that were being sold on Ebay were pricy for a little while. Basically, it's a somewhat popular character that will be in more upcoming Marvel films and the ball got dropped on getting it out while there was a movie to support it. For people like me, this is a character that has been wanted since before the last Captain AMerica movie was released.

  35. How about entire fett army? Cheap jangos from a recent set for pawns, 2x other boba fett for knights, rooks, etc Could go with cloud city for king and a white one for queen, could even be the cheaper white one from recent encyclopedia

  36. Here's my suggestion for an Ep1-6 chess set. White Pawns: x wing pilots Rooks: R2 and C3p0 Knights: Chewie (queen side), Han (king side) - the space knights in shining armor (falcon) Bishops: Yoda (queen side), Leia (king side) Queen: Obi wan King: Luke (white outfit) Black Pawns: storm troopers Rooks: imperial Death Star gunner Knights: darth maul and boba fett Bishops: royal guards Queen: vader king: emperor reasoning: knights usually end up near each other in the center of the board hence Han and chewie on the white side. On the black, Maul and Boba are natural jumpers. Yoda and Leia as bishops because they can hide and strike via fianchetto, and the royal guards cause they look so cool. Obi Wan as queen because that will be a memorable loss and will probably only be killed by the black queen, Vader. Rooks of R2 and 3po because usually Rooks line up in file and I suspect the r2 rook to be played as a favorite check mating piece to save the day. Imperial Death Star gunners as rooks to fire that straight devastating end game shot across the board.

  37. Very cool idea. Trilogy sets would be awesome. Episode sets would be even better. I'd go with the Rebel Pilots as the pawns. While Hoth Rebel Soliders are cool....they were only on screen for about 1/2 hour of the whole trilogy, they got their butts kicked (Pilots are 2 for 2 against Death Stars) and the Pilots are varied enough yet similar enough to use different pilots as the pawns (Porkins, Dutch, Wedge etc,).

  38. So your board will be mainly smooth tiles except for the center of each colour? Maybe I am missing something but if you use the single stud in the exact middle to stand a minifig...wouldn't they appear leaning/close to one side? Would be nice to have two studs in the middle to fit majority of minifigs perfectly at center of colour. Some figs have different bases obviously. Yeah, a totally smooth surface would look better but a studded board would be more practical. Only have one copy of the Kingdom chess set (most recent)...love to open that day. I have enough SW troops...maybe I will do a chess board too

  39. I'm quoting myself 'cause it's too late to edit my last post. Anyway, the frustrating thing about the summer catalog (just flipped through it) is it includes EVERYTHING I WANT GONE! Lego is clearly just trolling me, and brickpickers generally. So we have TB, T1, PS, PC (but not PR; good catch by CC-Marley), and of course a half page spread for DS. Obviously PR is retiring, but PS and PC will stick around until DS retires at the turn of the century. Or something. I think the real lesson here is that the catalog is useless for predicting EOL dates.

  43. I few months back, a BP member (sorry, can't remember the name) posted pictures of their cool modular display and really inspired me create a little nieghbourhood too. I'm missing the original 3 modulars but so are a lot of folks haha. Still needs more detail and trees especially one between the PS and DO. Creating a mini/half wall around the park would add some dimension too. The park in the middle (2 green plates) can be interchanged for different themes like Halloween, winter, Superheroes...G20 protest/riot etc. There's a lot of options/combinations to display the buildings, but given the dimensions of my table I'm happy with my first attempt. Would like to add a second table to create a suburban section or theme park with the Ferris Wheel...maybe try to incorporate a train/rail system somehow too. Fun projects to think about for the future. *special thanks to Sandwraithx157 for sourcing some 'sidewalk' tiles for me. I actually ran out of the large tiles so had to create a construction scene.

  49. In regards to LEGO Shop at Home, store, POS and "Sold Out": 1. pos data is shared between stores and LEGO Shop at Home obviously. however it is not a full connected real time system, but a centralized database, that is updated periodically as available. most retailers work the same way. this has nothing to do with the "status" on LEGO Shop at Home however. LEGO Shop at Home has its own allotted inventory and does not fulfill directly from store inventory. 2. the current gold standard for EOL is the "Sold Out" tag on LEGO Shop at Home (disclaimer: this is stipulated based on information provided in point number 5). This does not mean it is gone completely from lego retail inventory or other retailer. This means it is no longer available for order at LEGO Shop at Home. anything "OOS" at LEGO Shop at Home can be ordered, this indicates that LEGO Shop at Home is expecting more stock from somewhere. This obviously can change and orders can be canceled manually, but that is not really that common. 3. The retired tag on LEGO Shop at Home, this likely means it is no longer in inventory anywhere in the lego system, as well as all return periods have passed. 4. product no longer listed on LEGO Shop at Home, this likely means some one screwed up while tweaking the db, but it could possibly, with very small hope, mean that it is EOL. 5. Chaos, dogs and cats living together, and lego retail. all of these things are kinda the same. so any information provided by this site, lego employees, myself, the internet, your grandmothers psychic or anyone who does not have a working 21103, should be taken as purely speculation.
