  10. We should just ignore any possible signs of retirement and buy whatever we want. Sold out everywhere? Who cares, that happened before. Limit raised or dropped at S&H? That means nothing. TOOS? That happened all the time with other sets. Production codes from more than a year ago? We can't be really sure what those codes mean. They're pointless anyway. If you like any set as an investment, buy some. Period.

  14. What I truly don't understand is 10225 besting 10212 in price / MSRP. 10227, sure, the B-Wing is kinda weird. But the Imperial Shuttle is pure elegance. I think this is anti-Imperial bias at work, and the Justice department should look into it. What I will say for 10227, is it's far truer to the look of the 'real thing' than 10225 is. I can't make myself like that blocky, pixelated R2 sculpture, no matter how fast my 15 sets appreciate.

  19. I started to watch Episode I with my son, but found he was a little too young...as he constantly asked "Where is Darth Vader, Where is Darth Vader?" after every scene. My response was "Buddy, Darth Vader is NOT in every scene of all the movies." I then got up off the couch and replaced Episode I with IV and the questions basically stopped...haha In hindsight Episode IV seemed to work better...IMO

  21. Took the family to NYC for Mother's Day, and we swung by the Lego Store while we were there. There was an ignored pile of clearance items off to one side. I was surprised to see (and grabbed) 2x 60064 Arctic Supply Planes for $13.48 each (reg $49.99). Also grabbed a bunch of "I Love NY" Lego Statue of Liberty magnets while I was there.

  26. are you trying to be rude? Really? I've sold close to 1000 lego sales in last year. I have done the quick flips, old retired sets, and used sets similar to the above poster. A quick 3 minute search on ebay has almost all his listing with at least 1-2 lower sale prices. I'm sure there is a buyer for every one of those sets out there, but probably not at the profit margin OP would like at the moment. we all know collectors buy all year round, but please show me the one active seller here that can't wait for May!! Things fly off the shelf in may!! Most upticks in price sales are in relation to recent retiring, sold out etc not sets similar to OP. To OP, figure out a price you are comfortable with, and give it a whirl, you will be surprised what things do sell, also what doesnt

  27. Yeah the usual rumor wagon. It's almost predictable. I hope it will be Neuschwanstein. That would easily trump the Taj Mahal if done right.

  29. I guess we all can agree that the chance this set will retire soon is becoming more big every day that passes. It has been around for quite some time. If you believe in this set make sure you have your desired quantity for investment. As it has been out for so long there is absolutely no excuse to have zero of these. I have my desired quantity and I am at ease. Would I like to have more? Sure. But others are more important now. Also I haven't seen a decent sale on this one the last months.

  30. I only ordered 2 Slave-1s, but they arrived last week in one box with sufficient padding. +1 on the deal and +1 for TRU shipping. (Better than the AT-AT in a bag many of us received from Target.)

  33. For me, I'm not sure what people are so worried about with regards to the 'darkness' of the movies. It's honestly no darker than a damn Disney movie, who ALWAYS kills off some sort of character. I know a lot of people may not agree with me, but I let our kids watch rated R movies, and they are only 11/10. We've raised them well enough they can handle it. Granted they don't have free roam of those kinds of movies. We do have our limits, but your general R movie with cursing and stuff is a moot point. They hear all that crap by that age anyways. Might as well slowly introduce the real word. I just don't want the kids to be so sheltered that everything is a shock to them. Anywaysssss, off my little soap box about that. As far as the movies, I see some points about letting the kids watch it for themselves, but I think it's a travesty to even show EP. 1-3. I'm sorry, but for me, I want the kids to fully appreciate the genius that was Star Wars EP. 4-6. It's a lot simpler, much more coherent story line than 1-3. 1-3 is just simply a bunch of fancy graphics and flashes. And honestly, it completely ruins the mystique of Darth Vader. I never grew up wondering what made Vader turn to the dark side. It didn't matter. That was up to my imagination. George Lucas IMO took away from the mystique of Vader as this all powerful ruler of the dark side, and turned him into the biggest freaking whiny p**** punk. /rant Sorry, I got a little carried away. I think watching 4-6 is more than sufficient for any kid honestly.

  34. Kind of breaking the spell, is not it? I like SW, but I like it for as it is. I don't think more into it than what I said above. I can understand you, but to do what I do I had to learn how to overcome personal biases. For an evening flick it is the best you can get. However I never had a great introduction to this universe, I just watched them on TV when they were aired on Sunday evenings. I even saw EPV first, so it was not in order. Without the hype it was on the same level for me as the Lion King or Back to the Future. However I like certain elements of this universe, but to match my taste the movies had to be more gritty, run-down and apocalyptic. No stupid characters. Mix in some amorality. For example I don't know if you played KoToR II, but what Obsidian did there was the closest to what I want to see. Nothing was perfect, the Jedi order was flawed and eccentric, the Sith were nihilistic and all of the characters were unique and twisted. No clear line between good and evil. Nar-Shaddaa was the asshole of the Galaxy with drugs, prostitution, slavery, crime bosses and smuggling, my favorite setting. Would be great for a Boba Fett movie.

  40. I think there has been 3 other non-UCS versions (granted 1 was a reissue and all were in combo packs) of Vader's Tie Advance before 8017. Non-related : My belief is that we'll likely be getting a non-UCS vader tie before a UCS one. It's been 7 years or since 8017 was released.
    1 point
  41. By the way by not releasing an UCS falcon LEGO can surely achieve one thing. It's the "I did not buy it when it was being produced and now it is so expensive" argument. It's the set you can always point at when you want to sell your product. The living example for people to buy sets before they are retired. By now almost everybody and their dog knows about the giant expensive LEGO Falcon. As long as LEGO can induce the regret in people for missing these sets the firm is sitting on a gold mine. If there is a set they should keep forever retired for this reason then it is the Falcon.

  43. Maybe so. Many people still ignore anything that looks like a Bionicle or Constraction set. Maybe they need to look at what their kids like to play with.

  44. you might find one or two crazy uncles in Europe willing to pay that price and if you do, be sure to sell them everything else you have! My problem with this one is that is is STILL available in random places now at full RRP, meaning neither the horde nor general buyers are that interested. Ebay is limited to 250-270 for actual sales and those advertised at 350 are not moving. Yes, the movies and series will help but it´s not a spaceship and there are no minifigs so the collector demand versus hoarded sets is much lower than Red 5 or even EV.

  47. Maybe now that Lego is the #1 toy company in the world corporate espionage may kick up a notch. But I think the competition would be more concerned with what new products are coming out. Currently we see leaked photos of upcoming sets watermarked "confidential". I agree with Spanky's post so since only higher ups would know what sets are being retired it would be harder to lure them with cash because they have it already and the risk of them being caught would be greater too. Now if this was Apple I am sure we could find a copy of a document left at a bar with a list of all sets that are planned to be retired in 2015.
