  1. visit the camelcamelcamel.com web and choose any lego reference you want. When the price graph comes up you have to click on the sales rank tab. I don´t see this data as conclusive myself as there are so many swings from high to low but I probably don´t have the brains to interpret it properly.

  2. Except you can't replace a Death Star with a random SW scene, not even Hoth. It's too iconic and compact. You would miss out on a large number of sales, since this is not a collector's item. It has become more generic over time. People who don't buy any other LEGO set buy this. When girls are beginning to receive this as graduation gift then you know that this is not like the other sets. One of my theories is that LEGO did not update this set (or retire it) because they don't want to miss out on those interim sales. This thing is selling like hotcakes. Hoth, Sandcrawler, Slave I are for nerds. If you are a casual fan you want something big, instantly recognisable, iconic that contains the core characters. Pretty much a Death Star from the OT. Lastly, if anybody says that "but the new movies will surely contain something big that will be the next big set yadda yadda..." is a fool. It may be in 3-4 years from now on. Minimum. And for that this movie has to be REALLY good. Not just fine, not just awesome, but something so good that you want to sell your soul to watch it again. It has to be a classic in other words, on the level of the OT. That is what's required to replace the Death Star in a SW portfolio. Just a hypothetical scenario: what would generate more sales, if only one is on offering at a time: Death Star with Vader, Luke, etc. or random big ass space station with totally new characters?

  4. I am waiting on an answer from the people that make the mobile app. They have to tell me whether it is ready for this updated version yet or not.

  5. There is a lot of profit to be made on this set if you buy over MSRP, but it will take longer to make that kind of money. Sometimes it's better to invest in something else than to purchase a set over MSRP. Only time can tell which option is better.

  6. I think so. Enough people got it for 150 or less to mean that it would be too long a hold to be profitable.

  7. Now we have actual data, we can see that this set sells respectably considering its price and the fact it has been out so long. There has to be a remake if this one does retire, perhaps on a slightly smaller scale to achieve even more sales. The other option is to keep the existing model - if it ain´t broke, don´t fix it. If a new one were made, it makes sense to gap the replacement to create demand (also consider that lego also has a responsibility to its B+M store customers and will not want to damage sales of the old ones on the shelves). We have seen with MF, Xwing and Tie playsets that there is always a gap. It´s like fashion - you don´t replace the miniskirt with another miniskirt, you put shorts between then go back with a sligthly different cut or style or people have no need to buy the new one when they have the old already.

  8. Hahaha I think we're a little away from that, I would be quite surprised if they have any stock and would use another seller as a drop shipper. Can't say that I'm liking the upgrade, can we go back to the old system please

  9. I liked the way the recent posts were listed before better. I don't think it needs multiple posts from the same thread. The list is much too short with the text from the post being shown. Everything looking good so far. Great work guys.

  10. I guess one should not overestimate potential buyers' knowledge. Just like the thing with all those stickers on EEE, which 90% of investors know about but maybe less than 1% of all potential buyers - GE imo just looks better on the box than FB for example. So even if every "expert" dislikes GE because of some internal issues, most buyers will judge the book by its cover right away. And not only here but probably in every case of a set. That is also why I've always had a problem with the argument of "a great building experience" of a set. How many buyers will know about that 5 years after EOL? How many will even care if they knew? And how could one ever advertise a great building experience when selling? I'd say: Nobody gives a pooped snack about buidling experience and not about interior detail or any flimsy joint or unstable Tumbler build or anything like that. In a nutshell: What is IN the box, counts significantly less than what is ON the box IMO. Just my opinion. Most people just don't catch up on a set (or anything) they are about to buy. If they want it, they just go buy it. Remorse comes afterwards at the earliest. Just my experience. Never underestimate the apathy and ignorance of people.
