  1. Finished the main build tonight, just have bag 12 which is the stand / minifig. Will try to do that in the morning at the warehouse tomorrow. Looks really good when finished, very sturdy as well. Build time was somewhere in between 4-5 hours , kind of lost track. Now I'm ready for the next UCS SW...

  2. Over the past few weeks I got: 30313: Garbage Truck (x60) for 34 cents each. There was a target near me that didn't put all of these out for Easter. When they went 90% off on Sunday, they still had 2 boxes in the stockroom. I picked them up before they went salvage. 3181: Passenger Plane (used) for $20. Got this at a local community sale. It was just dusty and missing a few common minifig parts. I cleaned it up and it looks great. 70162: Infearno Interception (x4) for $8.99 70163: Toxikita's Toxic Meltdown (x3) for $11.99 60044: Mobile Police Unit (x2) for $17.98 76013: Batman: The Joker Steam Roller (x2) for $14.99 76022: X-Men vs. The Sentinel for $14.99

  4. I will photograph it with Red Five next to it. Couldn't transport it today as the weather was bad. the wings are pretty repetitive. The second side I flew through compared to the first . I think that is how Red Five and this are though, look great when finished but both fairly easy builds for the price point. Going to do Slave 1 next and see how that build compares seeing they were all the same pricepoint.

  12. Your html link is well formed however you can't link to sites like Facebook this way .. and it's not because BL doesn't allow it, Facebook doesn't allow what BL is trying to do in this case. I viewed the generated source of the splash page, and it's hosted in an html control called a <frame> .. any site requiring you to "login" probably won't work. BL was developed waaaaay back when <frame> was a control used a lot. Most modern websites no longer employ this type of control for the majority of the functionality for a variety of reasons - mainly they are a security risk (phising) and interacting with content in a frame is crappy. With that in mind, even if BL tries to prevent some HTML from getting into your splash page .. moving you over to your own hosted splash page won't matter because Facebook doesn't allow it to be hosted in a frame which is what BL uses for the content of each tab. Suggestion .. do this: <BR>Check us out on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gem-State-Bricks/1625510294338460" target="_blank">Facebook</a> and <a href="https://instagram.com/gemstatebricks/" target="_blank">Instagram</a> for updates and store promotions. <BR> By adding the target="_blank" to the html link, it will open the pages in a new tab of the browser. That's as good as it gets... and IMO a better user experience anyways. (for the folks who care about the technical reason .. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7276036/open-facebook-page-in-iframe-or-frame .. it has some details from a facebook developer on why it's not allowed)

  15. The consensus is that it will retire soon- before the end of the year. I polled a sampling of one: me. Oh yes... there's also the poll at the TOP OF THE PAGE, which groups me with 85% of the rest of those who read this thread.

  16. Not sure about all the Juniors sets, however, Defend the Batcave in particular will do well long term. I parted this one out before xmas for profit and then sold them during xmas last year for $50 (buy in 22.50) when they sold out everywhere. This has the limited retro batman and robin minifigures which are based on the 60's TV series. The only other set that has these minifigures is a rare 2014 san diego comic con set. The Joker minifigure is sort of rare too and sells pretty easy. A few rare bricks and plates on top of the minifigures makes this a parter outer set or long term hold. The minifigures alone were going for $30+ when it first came out. Once it is EOL and a new crop of obsessive collector batman lego freaks come out of their dark ages, they will bid this set up to $75. Small box, easy to ship, takes up little space. What's not to love. LEGO Juniors. Its not Duplo.

  19. No, I do have my thoughts, but they usually align more to my building preferences and I like to hear those of others. I have read a majority of the threads regarding each of these sets.

  20. Personally, I would read each of these threads (since they each have one) & form my own opinion, rather than have strangers spend my money. But that's just me... ;)

  21. My personal ranking: Buy now, good investment, very likely to go away in the next 6 months: PS, 42009 High priority, may or may not last another year, and a good investment: PC, T1 Going away soon, but limited investment value: EEE Your guess is as good as mine, good investment, but completely unknown life: DS, TB, Sea Cow Can wait on this one, unlikely to go away within the year: Slave 1, Tumbler

  22. I have seen a lot of people speculate about the pet shop, death star and palace cinema being at or near the end of the line. Who knows if that is true for sure, but if it is, I would focus on those to start.

  23. There have been many discussions about the road plates. Indeed you should be able to buy them seperately. I also have alot of crossings that I do not use. It is a pitty. But I think there are some sale tactics behind this.
    1 point
  24. Wildbricks, you mean 1 plate at a time? Most folks would just prefer Lego sell the straight piece alone for cheaper instead of including that crossing plate...I'm sure many have extra crossing plates they don't use. Eventually I'll need to add more straight and curved plates. Slow build...many empty land parcels waiting for Cinema, Restaurant, Detective etc. just like Rome wasn't built in one day

  25. I would just build it. But that's just me, not saying that's the most reasonable thing to do from a financial point of view. Regardless, mid to long term, CAGR for 3x PS (or PC if you buy into the early retirement hype) will most likely be better than 1x TH.

  26. If you want to keep & build a Town Hall anyway, I'd go with your first option. 3 Palace Cinemas (or another good grower) are going to be worth more than a single Town Hall. My 2c.

  27. Thanks, I'm taking my 7 year old son on Thursday. My problem with posters are they will get wrinkled by the time we get home hours later. Maybe I should bring a poster tube holder to the convention center this time. I believe Lego is passing out a limited lego set with mini sand crawler also at the convention.

  28. This works great! For now while I just have it in the store terms page this is awesome! I like how it send you to a new page too because then people can actually look around and go back to the store easily. Brickpicker saves the day once again. Thanks everyone for all the help and suggestions!

  30. Buy a used one. Think about it this way: Scenario 1: You open your new one and build it. Result: You own a used Town Hall. Scenario 2: You sell your new one and immediately use the proceeds to buy a used one and build it. Result: You own a used Town Hall PLUS the additional profits. No-brainer.

  31. Ok off the wall. Leave the one sealed on the shelf. Then buy 3 Death Stars. It's going this year I think and the replacement in my opinion will not meet this one. Keep them sealed too. I'm jesting but really I am being serious too. Something to consider.

  33. For larger sets, I tend to use air packs or Kraft paper (what I have left over from shipments I received). I use bubble wrap, plastic shopping bags, and peanuts for smaller sets. Once I'm out of left over packing material, I'll buy Kraft paper, as it is cheap and it is easy to store a few rolls (and doesn't require an air compressor --- I would get that for a larger operation, but my operation is quite small).

  34. Same here, all 5 I ordered shipped this week.

  35. Honestly, I use whatever I get from my own purchases. Hell, even newspaper works fine as long as you use a properly sized box and make sure that the set does not bounce around. Now, for a more professional look you might want to purchase kraft paper as dcdfan mentioned above, or big rolls of bubble wrap. The key is making sure the set does not bounce around the box and that it has proper padding on the top and bottom. At least that's how I do it and have had no issues so far. Note, however, my main target market is not really the hardcore collector or serious investor.

  39. The careful filing of topics into a relatively few number of threads is actually an enormous positive on this site. You don't have to wade through pages of different threads to find relevant topics on the set of interest, you just go to one place. Also, the length of this thread and the age is actually another huge clue if you care to think about it. And if you're observant, there's even more to be learned from that "old and irrelevant" info that you think no longer applies. Quite the contrary, that's some golden info that will tell you quite a bit about the future of not just 10188, but a number of other sets as well. If this was easy and obvious, many more folks would do it. It takes time and patience to learn the basics on both ends: the best way to acquire sets (and which ones), as well as the best way to sell sets (and when). We were all novices once, and we're all still learning. The suggestions you make are counterproductive and would harm the way many of us use this site. I appreciate your suggestions, nothing wrong with those. Understand that the reason things are done such as grouping comments into single threads by set is the result of many expert investors input, some serious wisdom on this site, and the result of many mistakes made by others before you. You're benefitting from all that. You'll come to see why things are done the way they are here, and hopefully recognize the value they'll ultimately represent to your investments.

  42. I used two coupons total. You can re-generate unique codes for $10 off $75 on toys at this URL http://shc.cpn2c.co/...ervice/web/bE3R The $10 back on a $50 purchase is unique. Once used, you can't us it again. I would say do it once, and pocket the points. Then parlay it again by using a $10 off $20 coupon. If you have shop your way linked to a mobile account, Text THANKS to 73277 to get a Sears.com coupon code. It says sears on it, but I was able to use the code from kmart.com on a birds purchase. I had some points stacked up, so I got another birds for $7 after I used all my points from the previous purchase, and some I had banked. There's definitely some room for some creativity. Outside of some SW sets, this seems to be one of the few sets at kmart with some investment potential (I'm in the camp that says this set is a winner).

  43. 2 X Birds 21301 at K-Mart for $80 ($69.75 out of pocket) with $11 in points back This might be a good one if anyone plays the Shop Your Way game and has points. These are on the web for $44.99 (I hadn't noticed these at K-Mart before). If you look for SYW coupons, there is a $10 back in points on a $50 purchase. Also, I went to the direct mobile coupon generator here http://shc.cpn2c.co/RecomService/web/bE3R. There was a $10 off $75 toys. I was able to apply both coupons to this order (you can't always do this). I paid the balance with a 7% off raise GC. I paid with some points to get my out of pocket further, but I had to pay $75 out of pocket (via GC) to get the discounts and points back. After some points I had, it was $69.75 (7% raise card) for 2 sets out of pocket. $10 back in points, gets these sets pretty darn cheap. Once these ship, you have points to do this over and over once you generate some fresh coupon codes. About $30/set if you count the points back like cash. It's some work, but I was kinda stoked to see this set at K-Mart online.
