A cautionary tale... If new, accept the advice of the Senior members here. LEGO Shop at Home does not screw around on this issue. I made- what I thought- was an incredibly "clever" play, ordering 12 Grand Emporium's over 5 different cards at, more or less, the same time. Here is how committed TLG is to not allowing this to happen. ALL sets posted, tracked, and got as far as the FedEx distribution center eleven miles from our home in Southern California. This was August of last year. At this point, the shipments were STOPPED, and all sent back to their warehouse. All cards banned, along with our shipping address. They ate some tremendous shipping costs to stop me from doing what I knew better not to. Accept the advice, and respect what they're doing... cross the line and you're toast.9 points

I am very happy to report that both Darth_Raichu and gregpj have agreed to join the moderator group. Both have been members since 2013 and have always made solid contributions to forum. The forum is busy and so are the moderators. Some are busy getting Masters degrees others are busy at work or life or running their LEGO business. I was also getting a lot of pressure to hire a Canadian as a mod, so gregpj is helping me fill that quota Please congratulate these guys and take it easy on them out there!!4 points

http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/11427-shop-at-home-offers-october-2014/?view=findpost&p=357511 Anyone looking to order a bunch from shop at home and stay under the radar please take a look at my post from this past October. This was the last time they ran double VIP, but they also were giving away the free elves workshop as an additional promo. I ordered one exclusive every day for the entire month with no penalty or suspicion of being a reseller. I received a bunch of VIP points which I cashed into two ewok villages, as well as 30 of the elves workshops that I should be able to sell for $20-$25 each this coming Christmas or next based on past history. My point is, you don't need to blow your load in one order. Spread it out. Be smart about it. Don't order the same set two days in a row. Wait for your previous order to go into "shipped" status before placing your next order. I know that buying is fun, and sometimes you feel like if I don't get it all now I will miss out. The sets will be there. It's not worth the risk. There seems to be a lot of new members lately asking questions regarding the banning process. The questions are being answered, but it feels like some are not listening to or taking the solid advice being given. This advice is not an opinion. It has all been learned from past mistakes. If you want to test the waters then go ahead, but don't be surprised if the ban hammer falls.3 points

You inspired me, I did the same thing. My first Slave 1 is now on it's way. I was having trouble finding something to combine my rewards with last week. Also, stopped at TRU yesterday that was well stocked with Elsa's Castle. With the 20% off and $5 off coupon, the price was $29.39. Not quite 30% off, but I may be close to 30% w/ the discounted gift card.2 points

Both sets will be winners; I am extremely bullish on each. But keep in mind... The Red 5 is from the SW line, which will be in the midst of an absolutely HUGE film cycle two years from now, creating epic demand for all-things SW. Middle-Earth is likely, and sadly, gone from Cinema possibly forever. The books will of course always be tremendously popular. "A rising tide lifts all boats". If you own a box, full of Legos, with a Star Wars logo on the box, I would count on great things coming regardless of the contents of said box. What J.J. Abrams will do with these upcoming films is going to re-ignite the franchise epically... bringing in an entirely new generation of SW fans who want all that is currently available- and all that was once available. And that's when these sets skyrocket. I believe SW investing is the most promising avenue as a Lego Investor for the next ten years and likely beyond (along with the staple investment of Lego MOD's, of course). A trilogy-story every other year, with a character-focused story in the years between... the Star Wars frenzy is going to be global and unprecedented. I personally don't even like the Red 5, and couldn't care less. My future customers will, and even if they didn't it's a must-have for the TRUE Lego SW fans- of which there will be many, many, many, many millions. An entirely new generation is going to be introduced to what we've all known and loved. And they're going to love it too. It's going to be hard to find "losing" sets in the SW line with the epic demand, popularity, and global upsurge that will be ignited this December.2 points

Helm's Deep is a good set, but not a great one. I built it. The best thing going for it is the intricate detail. You don't see this kind of detail in a Lego Castle set (aside from Medieval Market Village and Joust). It has a lot of bricks for MOC'ing. But that's really it. It's hard to display because of the elongated front steps though they are cool. And the throne room section sits too low compared to the front gate. It's a very compromised set. The Lonely Mountain is a Dragon's Lair. It too is compromised perhaps a bit much for the price point. I will say that I would not have bought it except for this recent sale. And the only real reason I bought Helm's Deep is because I got it for $90. With all that said, Smaug is the best part of The Hobbit films. Helm's Deep is not the best part of LotR. A closer comparison should probably be made to Mines of Moria. But the Smaug sequences are much more epic than that. So, I dunno. I'm sticking with it being popular after retirement due to it's rarity (assuming that it is retiring) and that it's flashy enough with Smaug. Not gangbusters but a safe bet.2 points

all come one, after it was explained to me as to why certain things cant be posted and I completly understand I've been on my best behavior. Any other sly remarks were just a feable attempt to boost my ever growing ego and rise to power in the BS crew by obtaining a personal waxer. It seems as I have now achieved my goal. So, we will start the bidding at 5 dollars for the popsicle to bid for the chance to be hxckid88s personal assist....2 points

Great day.... 15 hour road trip... Lots of Lego meijer, fry's, lego store, lego store, 8 walmarts. I'll try to give details tomorrow if I have time or soon if not. I wanted to say though I have had terrible luck getting the Phoenix Fire Temple for $35 the last 3 weeks. So first I get cancellations from store after store, then I get $30 duplo or lego generic msrp sets substituted, so I walked out tonight from Walmart and I was so tired and happy I did not look and was headed home but finally my two big boxed Phoenix Fire Temples. Get home and pull them out of the car. Nope. Two 70010 Lion Chi Temples at $35 each. LOL2 points

Thought I'll never sell a Goblin King Battle set haha...finally sold one for $150 Got 2 more to get rid off. *Seapotato, you meant $150 and not $50 for Orc Forge right? $50 is a deal. Sold an Orc Forge recently for $170. All my GE's (9) are now gone. Good profits still, no patience to hold longer.2 points

Yeah, u know the one from b wing days. Weird. Crazy day. 2 States. 1900 spent on lego. 25.00 spent on mega blok2 points

It makes me chuckle to see people worrying that ToO has new seals, might not be retiring soon, etc. Of all the sets you could worry about buying too early, buying a ToO in 2015 is not one of them.2 points

Low production runs are not something I typically associate with TRU exclusives. At least Palptines arrest and the Jedi defender had nice minifigures. I see nothing about the MTt that will make it sought after.1 point

I am hoping one of my targeted sets comes back in stock before my rewards expire. If not, I'll probably also splurge on a new set to build (or stare at).1 point

If you use present your VIP card at the store, you should earn the points instantly because, well, you have the product. When you order online, you only get the 2x points when your credit card is charged which is normally when the order moves to the In Warehouse status. If you apply points to a purchase during 2xVIP points, you don't earn points on the money you saved. The general rule around here is "don't spend points during 2x VIP points if you don't have to." If I didn't answer your question, let me know.1 point

Respectfully, I completely disagree. I don't see the big problem in the playset, but I haven't built it - only watched the video. More for the money? Obviously that would be nice... but this has THE daddy of all Dragons, plain and simple. It's what the book was all about, really, and certainly represents some favorite scenes from the movies. Was LotR about Helm's Deep? Nah, it was arguably the best battle scene in the trilogy, I will grant you. Wow factor? I don't see any in HD. I built it, thought it was a bit better than my low expectations, and took it apart a week later. Smaug, on the other hand... well, he inspires awe, plain and simple: http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/7149-10237-the-tower-of-orthanc/page-35#entry432828 I'm not trying to tear anyone's opinion down, but rather help folks understand that, from an investment standpoint, this set is looking like a BIG ONE at the moment. It has lots of magical ingredients. If you don't like it, no sweat. But if you need to find a place to put some money and see it grow, this is probably a far better bet than you may think. There could be less of these made than ToO. There are surely MANY less out there than UG, probably HD, or possibly ANY LotR/Hobbit set. And it is arguably the most iconic of all. Let's face it, we are paying huge for the dragon, a little more for the other minifigs, and the rest is gravy. Hobbit fans who get into Lego a year or more from now are going fork over whatever it takes to get this set. If you missed out on Town Hall, don't get fooled again...1 point

I went to my local lego store, picked up the last two on the shelf. 20% off. The clerk had to go back and check if it had a limit of one or not. The guy in the know came out and said I could not only buy two, but they had a bunch more in the back and I could get more if I wanted. I got two more.1 point

This set is awesome. You get 7 of the new dark red brick elements with grout lines. (element 6093908 - none of the pictures show these). You can't tell from the pictures on the box, but the backside of the build is a cool looking brick wall. You get a studio kitchen great for any modular MOC. For the number of weird and rare pieces 9.99 seems like a great deal.1 point

If this thing goes early, as many of us expect, then even the 139.00 buy in at TRU will seem like a steal, becaue this will easily be the most sought after set in the LOTR/Hobbit line. And it truly is limited. It may not be exclusive in name, but it's pretty exclusive the way it is being sold.1 point

Speaking of confirmed retirement, I predict this post and the previous page and half of threads gets "retired" from this thread, which is meant for confirmed listing from TLG of a "retired" label on an official SAH website.1 point

Why not hold it until next Halloween and make a decent profit? Prices aren't going to go down, and I don't think the set has come close to hitting a plateau. Like Darn buying a bunch of TH, I don't think investors buying in the low to mid $300 range is all that crazy. Could easily be selling for $600-800 or more in another 12-24 months.1 point
