  2. There has been a trend we have been seeing lately and I would like to address it. First and foremost this is a Lego investing website. People read the forums and join this site to gain valuable knowledge. That being said some members have decided to post some quite off topic threads, I am guilty of this as well. There are plenty of off topic threads to add to if you feel the need to discuss something else besides LEGO. Please do not feel that since someone started a topic for example what kind of car do you drive, that there needs to be a topic started for every aspect of everyday life. There are plenty of websites where all that other stuff can be discussed. Like I've said before we have been quite lenient in what other topics are discussed but it has got quite out of hand as of late. If a thread gets deleted or moved do not take it personally, and don't think one mod has an agenda against certain members. All deletions and other modifications to posts are discussed privately between mods and admins before any action is taken. Please do your part to keep this forum as a whole on topic. Thanks and feel free to PM me if you have any issues with this post.

  3. I guess I am in the minority but I like the daily chit chat thread. Normally a lot of the stuff in there are things I want to talk about but haven't brought up yet. I agree with hxckid88 I want to talk all sorts of things with my online Lego friends. Compared to other forums I have been involved in this one has the nicest and friendliest group of people. Maybe it use to be different before I joined but since early December the deals in daily deals are few and far between but the chit chat is more than entertaining. It takes a couple of minutes to go through and find the deals and in the process I get a laugh or two out of it and at times I learn a new trick as well.

  4. I don't want a single thread either, but if people have a great travel deal to share, then post it. As I explained to sauromosis, this is a slippery slope. This is a LEGO site, so we have to be careful what we discuss. I really don't want dedicated threads to travel or cars or sports or whatever, but if something interesting comes up...post it, then we will have to see how off topic it is and then deal with it. I have instructed the Mods to be a lttle more lenient with this sort of issue, but people shouldn't take offense if something is removed. I think the forum topics are quite wide ranging, but please cut me a break. No guns or ammo talk. Nothing about drugs, political, sexual or anything else that can construed as controversial. Ask Jeff or I first and you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble. Thanks.

  8. Perhaps off topic forums should not be included in the 'latest posts' section. I use that list to browse posts almost exclusively. The off topic stuff does tend to clutter it up a bit.

  9. As hxc sarcastically points out, this community is special for having money to spend and a keen eye for deals. I get the impression that some of you are content to chase Target clearance and a 5 dollar profit for the next 5 years, but I think we can achieve more. As far as "go join a travel forum" I think the people on this site are better suited to provide me travel deals. And I look forward to buying a drink for anyone who does hook us all up with a big vacation deal.

  10. Neighbors who scare off the 20 or so Turkeys you're trying to feed early this morning by having a loud conservation with you about how they(Turkeys) were having an orgy earlier. The guy is great but this annoyed me. We've had so much snow this winter(8" more last night) and the ground has been covered for 7 weeks or so. So I've been buying dried corn and squirrel mixes for all the animals and birdseed for the birds. The Turkeys always have been around the area but they'd show up every week or so. Since I've been putting critter food out they've been waiting in the yard when I get up. I'll try to get pictures tomorrow.

  11. Of course it is still early (or not yet even) in the "EOL" stage for all sets in this theme but you are correct that overall it has not been too good investment-wise. By CAGR in the database, Shelob's Lair (25%) and Mirkwood Elf Army are the leaders thus far. Mirkwood Spiders has really taken off lately, Lake Town Chase got a huge bump over the holidays, and Unexpected Gathering is finally starting its inevitable climb as well. ToO speaks for itself. The first four are very roughly double MSRP on eBay last I checked. Why those? The minifigs tell the main story, if you ask me - especially after the final Hobbit movie. But to address your question, is any of this performance "good"? For the pair of wave 2 Hobbit sets, I would argue yes. They can still be found in the occasional Walmart for up to 50% off and are fetching ~4x that. But it really depends on when they plateau, of course. On the subject of minifigs, Lonely Mountain has five exclusive version minifigs in addition to the big fire-breathing star of the show, including the three dwarves that "matter" in the movie besides Thorin. Perhaps more importantly, it represents the point of the whole dang story from start to finish. For purists, very little of that other "5 armies" spectacle was in the book, and none of the Dol Guldur business. Of course this probably won't matter a great deal but it is something to think about long term. Helm's Deep is not a great comparison, in my opinion, though arguably the closest between the two sibling themes. It did do quite well initially after becoming unavailable, but plateau'd very quickly too. Holidays and all that... It only has 3 exclusive minifigs out of 8 total, by the way, two of which are comparable to the Lonely Mountain dwarves in terms of being "second tier" important characters. No super-villain-huge-awesome-guy to carry the set at all. And unlike Hulk, we know we will never see another Lego Smaug. Furthermore, despite a very solid design, Helm's Deep suffers from "lots of grey bricks" syndrome. The Lonely Mountain does not. It is colorful and therefore more unique. Finally, Helm's Deep is just not iconic enough to represent LotR the way Lonely Mountain represents The Hobbit. It is much more similar to Lake Town in many ways, story-wise. The difference being, it survives.. mostly. Now, had Sauron "lived" in Mount Doom, and THAT set been released, WITH him as a maxi-fig, we would have an ideal comparison product. I realize Unexpected Gathering is much easier to display, so it may be chosen "over" this set by many folks who don't give a rip about any of the rest of it. But I think the (personally predicted) difference in supply will more than make up for that in terms of the sets competing against each other. Another way to put it is that this set is to The Hobbit what Black Pearl was to PotC, or Hogwarts to Harry Potter (imagine if there had only been one version). Obviously I am not the first to draw those comparisons.

  19. another user was and did post those deals there. They were deleted. No one is investing in travel deals though. It's more of a hey I'm tryna help anyone out that may be traveling thing. So, in my opinion the middle ground and compromise for all of this would be a thread as we have now for non lego investments. Other toys for people to make a buck on basically. And then a thread of just deals for travel, and yes oatmeal. Everyone wins. Teo threads. And BP wins as if I posted hey everyone look at this pancakes for cheap on Amazon. Use affiliate link here. This actually happend last week as I know two users used BP affiliate link to buy those Kodiak kakes I was talking about. 2 threads... One for investments and other toys and one for just deals people May like. Yes, I was being sarcastic about oatmeal. My point was I'm really into other things, working out is was one of those things. But, I don't belong to any other online forums. I don't even have Facebook. I like it here. I've made friends on here. Even people here, mods..... That I don't always see eye to eye with and I know every once in awhile they can get frustrated with me is I still want to help anyway I can. For the most part people here have good intentions and want to contribute. Even if it's not a lego deal.

  20. We already have a whole forum category dedicated to these NON-LEGO DEALS. Why don't people just post their travel deals there? We don't need another category.

  21. No offense but that's your own fault. That's called feedback extortion and is against eBay terms. Sellers giving in to buyers demands is half the problem.

  29. This is a birds eye view and please bare with the crudeness and chicken scratch, (doing this at work shhhhhhh) but this is how I would set up my wall with modulars. You can give the appearance of city blocks without actually making a city block.

  30. Completely agree with Alpine here. Lego ship enthusiasts are the craziest, must-have-one-of-each-set of the bunch. Same with train folks. Always an audience for our boat/train investment sets with these maniacs... I know from experience (congrats to whichever of you I bought a Black Pearl from for three hundred dollars). The Lego Movie is just getting started. Franchise-power is the name of the game in Hollywood. Get ready for a SW movie every year, multiple Marvel Avengers universe films every year, and next... Lego Movies galore. Four movies are already schedule for production; the first being Lego Batman (May 2017). A May release date from Warner Brothers tells you something very important: this film is a heavy-weight, and will be contending with a slew of other summer blockbusters. Huge money, huge audience. And a very bright future for the entire franchise. This makes the flagship set from the first movie- The Sea Cow- an outstanding investment. There will be future demand. Just like the fairground "theme"... future iterations will drive past theme demand. And speculating here... as an investor, I love the lack of investment buzz around this set. It pairs wonderfully with the fairground themes, it pairs wonderfully along with the modular lines, it looks great on its own, it's an extraordinarily complex design scheme. To quote W. Buffett... "Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful". To each their own on any investments- I will be placing significant $ into both these sets.

  31. I'm very excited! I know many have surpassed this but It is a big day for me. It has taken a lot of time and work to get there but this morning I received my 1,000th feedback on eBay and I met my goal to have it be 1,000 positive feedbacks with no neutral or negatives! Fun that it came with a glowing Mixels feedback. I am sure I will not stay 100% forever but it was a goal I have been working on for a couple of years and it came true. Have a good day!

  34. Your seller is still within eBay's guideline for 2 business days processing. If you want something very quickly, it is best to buy from sellers with 1 day handling who offer next day / express mail. You may end up paying more, but that is the trade off

  39. This is because of TH EOL hype. The hoard are now convinced it'll go EOL this year. I doubt it myself. PS is selling less because peeps have had ages to stock up on it. I reckon it could be the next Death Star. It's good-looking and can be split in two. Just a guess really. PR is beautiful and has been reviewed very highly here and other places. To say it's unpopular is a foolish ting to say IMO. I, personally rate it as my number 2 best MBS, in front of PS and behind GG.

  41. Thanks to Raichu for the direction on how to post a picture to the BrickPicker Gallery pages. This is the first set I've posted and I do it with pride: this build was an absolute blast, and the finished product a masterpiece of Lego ingenuity. We've built many in our home... and watching this set come to life was as great as Lego building gets. I highly recommend it to fellow personal-collectors... the final product is stunning, and the build interesting and fun.. Hope everyone enjoys. Edit: Either I can't figure out how to hyper-link the photo, or there's a safeguard on my computer (company firewalls, etc.) that aren't allowing me to link .The photo is uploaded to My Gallery; accessible by clicking my profile if you are interested in viewing the photo.

  44. gotcha. I didn't mean to come across as condescending on that one. My point was I just hate when others call others out on here on a deal just because they couldn't find it or something. Then they get put in there place and silence.
