I think I read somewhere once that movie license deal contents (waves, # SKUs, price points, etc) are laid out years in advance. It could be that Lego was contractually required to push that final wave of Hobbit sets out. Based on the limited availability it may mean that Lego knew they were slow sellers, did a half-hearted, but contractually satisfactory retail distribution, and now are just counting the days until they are free from it. Most likely the designers have no discussion with the distribution management, so they put their normal effort into designing the sets. The mold for Smaug was probably approved and made well before any decision about wave distribution.2 points

Not sure if anyone needs one after the TRU sale, but it's there if you got to have another one: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00J4S962W/ref=s9_simh_gw_p21_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0MEN6B6T7Y0PTPACD4V9&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1687860322&pf_rd_i=9153982 points

Just left Target and I picked up a bunch of lego sets @40% off plus red card. Mos Eisley Cantina x 4 MetalBeard's Duel x 2 Friends Jungle Rescue Base x 3 Friends Shopping Mall x 1 (was shocked to see it there) Knowhere Escape Mission x 1 X-men vs. the Sentinel x 2 (at least 10 on the shelf) One box of S13 minifigures (too bad it was not sealed...lol) Good that I'm off this afternoon...can't wait to open the shopping mall and build it with the kids!2 points

I've added several new features to my Google Drive spreadsheet for tracking inventory and sales. 1. Supplies. Enter the type of box needed for each item. Enter your beginning box inventory, and then any subsequent supply purchases. The spreadsheet will then track how many are used and how many you need. Never accidentally run out of boxes again! 2. CAGR calculations. By item and overall. 3. Quick Item lookup. Enter the set # for details on how many you have in inventory/sold/profit, etc. 4. Goals vs. actual sales/income. 5. Breakdown of Amazon vs. ebay sales. 6. Piece count. Let me know if you have questions/suggestions for the next version! Enjoy! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NCmgY9nNxF8bjzuMthZArR5JmySAaJtFbr7fAgI2egU/edit?usp=sharing2 points

Just for future such events it's easy to slip a little paper tag with your name or shop name on it just inside the box flap, so if needed it could be pulled out without breaking the seals.2 points

I continually ask myself why anyone in their right mind would pay 2-3 times for any box full of plastic. It makes no sense and there is no reasoning no matter the theme. As long as the consumer feels motivated by a perceived value on said boxes full of plastic bricks then someone needs to sell to them. This is a really neat set, we built it for Christmas and overall I think it is a great set, it displays well as well as very playable. I just with it clocked in a bit lower in price point. I can pay retail for exclusives but it kils me on regular sets. I just saw two at my local TRU, but need a bogo or something to pull the trigger. You guys are lucky to get them at $82.00.2 points

You are fine in a Kia until you come to a corner, then its oh idea..... I had a Fiat Bravo in the 90s, which was fine until they serviced it and then it randomly flashed warning lights at me... So basically I was doing a Penny.... Sheldon "Your check engine light is on..." Penny "Yes, I've checked. The engine is still there."2 points

So the CS reps are telling people over the phone when sets are planning to retire? That's enough Internet for me today.2 points

I agree with the above, the Sea Cow is in many ways the "flagship" of the line, pun intended, even if it was released later on. The fact that Lego did release it later actually I think was a great one, it gave people time to get aquatinted with the theme and of course see the movie. The concept of the Sea Cow is too far reaching for most people without the context of the Lego movie present in their minds. By that I mean, well, it should be obvious. Look at it, SteamPunk, a Cow? on a ship? I mean, it`s awesome, it`s my favourite TLM set thus far, it`s a beast, but most people would have looked at it and wondered "what the heck is that?" if they hadn`t seen the movie or weren`t familiar with the new line in general. Most people buy the products they "feel" most aquatinted with, that applies to everything. It`s all about image, the image in the buyer`s mind of the product. Context needs to be provided in order to sell said product, so introducing radically different items to the market (like the Sea Cow) without providing any connection or association to another more familiar feeling product line, would result in people not having that feeling of connection with the product, and thus it wouldn`t sell. Ok, it is the Retiring Soon thread, so I`ll tie up that point with something more appropriate. A set like this without context in the market isn`t going to sell nearly as well as other more familiar products do. Following that logic, Lego will not retire the set after other Lego Movie sets have been (it will not be the last to go, I`d put money on it). It needs the other sets available to provide the context of the theme, and inspire more people to buy it. It could go before other Lego Movie sets retire, because logically it can`t go after, but my guess is it will hang around until most/all of the other sets are put to rest. Then the Sea Cow will retire along side. If Lego keeps releasing new Lego Movie sets up until the release of the sequel , that means another couple of years in release, which if you think about isn`t that long ultimately. So, to summarize, my guess is the Sea Cow will stay available until the Lego stops making Lego Movie sets available, or before the release of the second film, in which case they will want to bring in a new context (the storyline and elements of the 2nd film) to the market. Unless the Sea Cow is featured heavily in the sequel, which I doubt, it will be gone before then.2 points

I moved this post from another thread... I have updated this feature to now include the pricing reported from each store. As you can see in the example below, at the top, it shows the suggested retail price, then on each of the actual store listings, it shows the price being reported from that store. Now you can head in the direction of the stores that have it in stock and at a reduced price. On a good note, this feature has only been live for a few weeks and it already has had more than 20,000 searches. That is way more than I expected.2 points

I dude, that kid is a troll. On 3.5 years on this forum I've been called. Out twice as being a liar. I then post a pic, why I feel the need to prove my self I dunno but I have. And once I do..... Silence.... Or back peddling. Who cares what others think. The '' game'' or hustle pays for many of my bills..so what someone on a forum thinks who isn't a btp is irrelevant. I've gotten quite a few Amazon gcs at 40% off today...... Cue the no u didn't comment. Don't sweat it man. Just carry on.1 point

Not that that wouldn't be redundant... If he's not posting random stuff all he ever says is: "I've told everybody that before but to me this set (xyz) is going to be BIG. So start uploading as soon as possible so that you get as many as possible over time and when it's done your fine". And of course "All of you that are selling this set right now for quick profit will have regrets about it in a couple of years when it's going through the roof. Stay strong and hold on to your sets for a couple of years for maximum profit!" (Anything I missed? All sets he is into are really big and expensive and most of them exclusive. The amount of sets he's buying and the time he's holding them still doesn't work for everyone ^.^) As for now there also have been like literally no real surprises when he said "buy this"... I mean he isn't wrong but I don't get how or why a lot of people see him as the yoda of brickpicking. His choices are obvious ones with minimum risk and he's going big and holding long. Nothing worldshaking going on there really. So if anybody here posts: Buy all the modulars and SW UCS (okay probably you shouldn't buy the obviously ugly and stupid ones...) and don't forget about black pearl, imperial flagship, simpson house, TB, SOH, Helicarrier, Tumbler... the reaction would be like: "yeah... okay..." If emazers steps in:"You should buy these... I'm doing it..." everybody is like "woah... thanks for sharing your wisdom and experience!" So it's nice to see that somebody who obviously has a lot of trust into his investment strategy supports the idea of buying a set, but so far (I'm not a long time member here maybe I've missed something...) no surprises. As for PC people should just get a couple now and if there are any sales they can upload more... If it retires early you got yours, if not you still got yours and can even get more if you think that's a good idea. (Also no magic...). And honestly I don't know why there has been so much going on in this thread here lately... yeah the TH thingy has been interesting but that's that. A lot of people repeating the same thoughts of PC maybe also retiring soon or probably not really is just nonessential (at least to me... and obviously to stephen as well, because he prefers reading the same thing again and again only if emazers posting it ;-P ).1 point

Yeah well my original post was from over a month ago. What does the stock today have to do with that? ALso, I don't give a F what that stock tracker says. If you think the inventories on that are 100% accurate I have a bridge to sell you. I saw the things in a couple Targets. Period. I also saw them at Lego and TRU. Dude dug up a post of mine from a month ago and called me a liar publicly. F that guy. I saw them. And the funny thing is the posts after mine from people in my area who saw them as well. Are they lying too?1 point

Same here. I really like this set. But even if the price point was $99, I would still balk.1 point

I wonder who dropped the ball on this scenario here for the final wave of Hobbit sets; LEGO or the retailers? For LEGO to put effort into these between the designs, box art, and more importantly Smaug, it seems wrong not to have them more available for the average consumer to actually find them. On the other hand most retailers may not have been willing to shell out the dough for more 'benchwarming builds' that would inevitably see deep discounts same as all the prior offerings have. I can admit this wave is the weakest with Smaug being the true highlight but it does come across like "why bother?" with how things look at the moment. Don't feel bad because I am the same way. Smaug is awesome, the set is great, the price though is "whoa mama" but that is only my opinion. If it were possible to purchase this at a discount I might but not retail.1 point

Stopped by a Target on the way home from the doc.. 40% off toys "mostly" some were still at 30% The surprise was the 8 boxes of CMF series 13. Only one was still sealed so I bought it... 40% off. She only scanned the outer box so it was an excellent deal. Can't blame them for not caring more.1 point

I wouldn't let a 2.5 year old play with it... Too many functions (9) and although there is a slip hear when everything reaches maximum extension, the boom winch can't handle too much weight and likely won't like being tugged on. I'd still build it though. ;)1 point

lol... sorry man! Just imagine that with a jeweler's shop, a lady taking some expensive jewels and running outside. No problem, cops are stopping her and find the expensive jewels on her, then looking at the owner of the shop:"Did you give her a receipt? If not how can I prove it was yours?" (I don't know... cameras maybe...) But didn't you point out to him how illogical this question is? I mean I would stand there open mouthed and then ask him:"what?"... taking me another few minutes for "why should I give her a receipt? you stopped her because she stole something... are you serious?" The story just sounds too stupid to me... You must have felt like the last sane man there.1 point
