It has begun... So far just Bag 1's which consists of the Shield symbol, the UCS stand, and a small start to the actual helicarrier. Book is 440 pages long. Bag 1's get you through page 40. I was told by my daughter this is probably the biggest book I will read. She was probably right. She is taking over Bag 2's while I get back to work.11 points

In an effort to save this thread from being further destroyed by more UCS Great Wall gibberish and other such things, I'm going to ramble off my thoughts on sets that are potentially up for retirement this year. 1) Tower Bridge - Being a late 2010 set, this one has already celebrated its fourth birthday, which is pretty old in Lego years. I could see this one going OOS in the fall and not coming back. 2) Pet Shop - 2011 set, the oldest active modular building. I think this one goes in and out of stock a number of times this year, ala the Grand Emporium, before selling out for good in the fall and being replaced by the next modular in January 2016. 3) Volkswagen T1 Camper Van - This one will be four years old in the fall but I wouldn't make any wagers on it. On the one hand, it has been out for a while and its successor (Mini Cooper) is already on shelves. On the other hand, it seems to be a hot seller (especially among the horde) and could easily last into next year, or beyond. 4) Sydney Opera House - I don't think this has been out for long enough to retire this year. I just don't see why Lego would pull the plug on it so soon -- I would imagine these big landmark sets are higher margin, lower volume items so even if the sales are a bit slow it's probably not unexpected. 5) Tower of Orthanc - This one turns two in July, so it's not very old. But it's a licensed set based on a soon-to-be-if-not-already irrelevant intellectual property. I think this one is gone for sure this year, and quite possibly in the next 4 months. 6) Palace Cinema - I've only included this in my list because it has been discussed a lot lately. Personally, I don't think a 2015 retirement for the cinema is even worth discussing but in the spirit of "anything can happen", I suppose there is a remote chance. 7) Ewok Village - Two years old this September. That's a pretty short lifespan, so I don't think it retires this year. But if I had to make a list of dark horse, surprise retirement candidates, this would be on it. Realistically, I think it goes in 2016 at the earliest or, in the worst case, it succeeds the Death Star as the expensive, long running, Star Wars OT play set. 8.) Red Five X-Wing - Released in May 2013, I expect R5 to retire this year but I'm not sure when exactly. It does look like it could be imminent though. 9) Death Star - Just kidding, not even gonna touch this one.9 points

Alright this is it for the night. Through all the bag 3's about to start on 4 tomorrow. Page 135 out of 440. So far about 3 hours. I did bags 1 and 3 (3 is heavy on technic and gears at the end). My daughter did bag 2. Very sturdy. Everything so far has interlocked with something with some double interlocking. The control room is TINY!!! All gears were a go as well which made me happy after the Shuttle wing mishap.6 points

Because of the countless people he has helped on BP (including myself) I thought it would be good to wish Ed a very happy Birthday. via BP app.5 points

Worked a little more on it this morning. Not sure of exact times but roughly 1.5 - 2 hours for the next 3 bags (4, 5, 6). This should be roughly 50% done as there are 12 bags (most have multiples) and page 220/440. Those guys at LEGO sure had there math down for a halfway point. Bag 4 is small and only 14 pages. Its just the side moldings and the side stickers to the ship. Bag 5 is the first propeller / motor and Bag 6 is the opposite side. Basically the same build for each of those. Also took pics of the minifigs built to this point (Hawkeye & Maria Hill) Can already tell I'm going to want some 30162 and the new 30304 Quinjet polybags to add to this when I'm done.4 points

comments about soooooo many people buying a set as a reason to not invest really make me scratch my head because its like you are saying the rest of the time when you buy a set, its your little secret and no one else is buying that set to invest in. thousands of lego investors/collectors are buying thousands of copies of sets including the ones that don't get talked about and cleared at 50% off & including the ones that people think they are the only one hoarding. .4 points

It's not that i don't think it will do well (i'm sure it will given Winter sets past) i just personally don't like the set, and if i don't like it i usually don't invest in it.3 points

Yes - They really are that good. Plus, regardless of your views on religion - you have to respect the fact that they choose to be closed on Sundays (and sacrifice the $).3 points

What does the 'LL' stand for in QFLL? I think this message from a buyer that was Auto-Declined on an eBay Best Offer sums it up pretty well... [i had to edit and alter a few expletives to make this post BP'r friendly, but I think you will get the idea] "25.00 WAS More THAn Fair for a 12.99 child s toy. YOU GREEDY FLUCKTRUCKING HOARDING PIECE OF SHIZNITT! TAKE ROCKY AND SHOVE HIM UP YOUR OBESE BOOTY. While inserting his truck in your booty, I hope he cuts you and that becomes infected, which develops into sepsis, and you die a slow and painful death. While I mention this I hope hospice rejects your insurance and charges you 1000% mark up on your pain medication. This is not business or supply and demand, but out right gouging and highway robbery. FLUCKTRUCK YOU LOSER, have a nice day and get hit by a semi."2 points

if one thinks that the Kia is a better car and the other thinks the BNW is, I don't see an issue with a swap2 points

This item came back in-stock. Apparently it is retired in Europe as reported by others on BP. Last chance for us to pick up this set at retail? http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=219346061 point

Picked up the following this week: 2 Steamrollers at 35 3 Steamrollers at 28 3 Milanos at 35 2 Attack on Lake-town at 20 2 Hulk Busters at retail With that small amount, I really feel like I am running out of places to put these at home. I am not sure how some of you do it when you are buying more than 10 of this, and 10 of that, and 30 more of those. You must live in a Malibu Mansion.1 point

I remember those days. Math was so easy, and I loved doing it. Now, I'm in calculus and I absolutely hate it! And I'm on Brickpicker instead on studying for my quiz tomorrow.1 point

Sandcrawler? Come on, it hasn't even been on shelves for a year yet. I think the minimum lifespan on that thing is going be 2.5 years or so.1 point

Did he send that through the ebay message system? If so, you get the last laugh. It's a clear violation of eBay TOS, which they take seriously. Report it via the resolve a problem link.1 point

I like a bacon cheeseburger on my Chick-fil-A too. For some reason my wife loves the Chick-fl-A mini-Chicken Biscuits. They're good, but all they are is a chicken nugget, wrapped in some dough... Kind of a rip-off for what you get.1 point

sorry same place as last time Discovery Center, only spotted them at some Merlin stores so far. No targets yet. That DPCI has the right number but batwing 30301 was the halloween promo as it lists it. The seal codes are from Halloween on Jokers but never saw them anywhere there. Texas seems to be the hotspot for Jokers (go figure) as most I have seen online are in that area1 point

Just a general pro tip: If you get a question or comment from someone who is obviously unhinged, catastrophically stupid, or a troll, don't bother answering them at all. You might get a few hostile follow ups from them demanding you answer, but if you just pretend you're not getting their messages, they will eventually go find someone else to annoy. Whatever you do, don't engage them in any form of debate. It's like arguing with a drunk attention deficit disordered lawyer who is off his meds. Only less fun.1 point
