  1. It has begun... So far just Bag 1's which consists of the Shield symbol, the UCS stand, and a small start to the actual helicarrier. Book is 440 pages long. Bag 1's get you through page 40. I was told by my daughter this is probably the biggest book I will read. She was probably right. She is taking over Bag 2's while I get back to work.

  2. In an effort to save this thread from being further destroyed by more UCS Great Wall gibberish and other such things, I'm going to ramble off my thoughts on sets that are potentially up for retirement this year. 1) Tower Bridge - Being a late 2010 set, this one has already celebrated its fourth birthday, which is pretty old in Lego years. I could see this one going OOS in the fall and not coming back. 2) Pet Shop - 2011 set, the oldest active modular building. I think this one goes in and out of stock a number of times this year, ala the Grand Emporium, before selling out for good in the fall and being replaced by the next modular in January 2016. 3) Volkswagen T1 Camper Van - This one will be four years old in the fall but I wouldn't make any wagers on it. On the one hand, it has been out for a while and its successor (Mini Cooper) is already on shelves. On the other hand, it seems to be a hot seller (especially among the horde) and could easily last into next year, or beyond. 4) Sydney Opera House - I don't think this has been out for long enough to retire this year. I just don't see why Lego would pull the plug on it so soon -- I would imagine these big landmark sets are higher margin, lower volume items so even if the sales are a bit slow it's probably not unexpected. 5) Tower of Orthanc - This one turns two in July, so it's not very old. But it's a licensed set based on a soon-to-be-if-not-already irrelevant intellectual property. I think this one is gone for sure this year, and quite possibly in the next 4 months. 6) Palace Cinema - I've only included this in my list because it has been discussed a lot lately. Personally, I don't think a 2015 retirement for the cinema is even worth discussing but in the spirit of "anything can happen", I suppose there is a remote chance. 7) Ewok Village - Two years old this September. That's a pretty short lifespan, so I don't think it retires this year. But if I had to make a list of dark horse, surprise retirement candidates, this would be on it. Realistically, I think it goes in 2016 at the earliest or, in the worst case, it succeeds the Death Star as the expensive, long running, Star Wars OT play set. 8.) Red Five X-Wing - Released in May 2013, I expect R5 to retire this year but I'm not sure when exactly. It does look like it could be imminent though. 9) Death Star - Just kidding, not even gonna touch this one.

  3. Alright this is it for the night. Through all the bag 3's about to start on 4 tomorrow. Page 135 out of 440. So far about 3 hours. I did bags 1 and 3 (3 is heavy on technic and gears at the end). My daughter did bag 2. Very sturdy. Everything so far has interlocked with something with some double interlocking. The control room is TINY!!! All gears were a go as well which made me happy after the Shuttle wing mishap.

  5. Worked a little more on it this morning. Not sure of exact times but roughly 1.5 - 2 hours for the next 3 bags (4, 5, 6). This should be roughly 50% done as there are 12 bags (most have multiples) and page 220/440. Those guys at LEGO sure had there math down for a halfway point. Bag 4 is small and only 14 pages. Its just the side moldings and the side stickers to the ship. Bag 5 is the first propeller / motor and Bag 6 is the opposite side. Basically the same build for each of those. Also took pics of the minifigs built to this point (Hawkeye & Maria Hill) Can already tell I'm going to want some 30162 and the new 30304 Quinjet polybags to add to this when I'm done.

  8. comments about soooooo many people buying a set as a reason to not invest really make me scratch my head because its like you are saying the rest of the time when you buy a set, its your little secret and no one else is buying that set to invest in. thousands of lego investors/collectors are buying thousands of copies of sets including the ones that don't get talked about and cleared at 50% off & including the ones that people think they are the only one hoarding. .

  10. It's not that i don't think it will do well (i'm sure it will given Winter sets past) i just personally don't like the set, and if i don't like it i usually don't invest in it.

  16. What does the 'LL' stand for in QFLL? I think this message from a buyer that was Auto-Declined on an eBay Best Offer sums it up pretty well... [i had to edit and alter a few expletives to make this post BP'r friendly, but I think you will get the idea] "25.00 WAS More THAn Fair for a 12.99 child s toy. YOU GREEDY FLUCKTRUCKING HOARDING PIECE OF SHIZNITT! TAKE ROCKY AND SHOVE HIM UP YOUR OBESE BOOTY. While inserting his truck in your booty, I hope he cuts you and that becomes infected, which develops into sepsis, and you die a slow and painful death. While I mention this I hope hospice rejects your insurance and charges you 1000% mark up on your pain medication. This is not business or supply and demand, but out right gouging and highway robbery. FLUCKTRUCK YOU LOSER, have a nice day and get hit by a semi."

  28. Information leaked that some new super aliens from outside of the SW-Galaxy will enter the scene (if you know the books of the expanded universe you might know the scenario already). Luke who has become the mightiest of all Jedi ever will have to use some superforce stuff to fight them. Not only will they have to work together with the Sith (yeah there are still some sith lingering around... they always say there are none left... but what they mean is: there are as many left as people need for a good story...). The aliens that invade the SW galaxy will not be able to use the force but neither will they be affected by direct force attacks. Also information leaked that these will be the very same aliens that have been featured in the latest "Indiana Jones" movie (which I personally wouldn't count to the Indiana Jones series...). So Luke will need the help of his old archaeology professor Dr. ****.S. Jones who works part time as smuggler... better known as Han Solo. Together with an aged team of not-so-super-anymore-heroes that have a lot of experience! he will fight back! At one point C3PO turns to the new Darth Vader, while getting confused during a stand up performance where he is immitating his voice. (No Ewoks where killed during filming, but the co-producer J.J.Bings got seriously injured...). Also it will be revealed if R2D2 can fly in the new movies (like in Episode I-III) or if he can't... (like in the original triology). Stay tuned for more Episode VII news!

  30. If the tracking was to the confirmed address and it says delivered you should be fine. If it asks you to respond you just put the tracking in , although the last few years paypal usually has it in there already and it says "being reviewed by paypal" Just let it run its course and as long as it says delivered it should be decided in your favor. From my experience the "unauthorized charge" ones that open through paypal instead of ebay usually have some other circumstance to them that it doesn't allow them to open through ebay like a international address on the card even though they are domestic and provided a domestic address. It can also be past the ebay time frame as another reason it goes through paypal. They are very few nowadays seeing most things are automatically done through ebay but those are just some reasons it could of opened through paypal.

  32. My argument is the same as it is for all the Mickey Ds haters out here. If it's not good, why are there so many around and why is it packed with people for lunch and dinner every day? Businesses don't stay in business if no one is buying their product.

  35. As far as our area goes, $29 is the best I've heard of. I've only seen $42 in our area so they must have marked it down very recently.

  36. Yeah, the Targets in my area don't usually have good sets on clearance all the time and when they do stuff goes quick. I would love to have bought them for $24 but $29 and some change isnt bad and I wanted to get in on the sets before they were gone. They only had like 3 left anyway. It's a $50 set so getting it for like, close to $20 off isn't bad in my book.

  38. I'm with jaisonline on this one. I just can't get excited about this set. Maybe some interesting minifigs, but there'll always be more batmans, robins and jokers. A weird steamroller and a weird batwing... ok... maybe kind of fun to build and interesting for some... but is it prime "must have" collector material? I think not. Folks are saying they'll make a killing next Christmas, but are you sure that this is what every kid is going to want Xmas 2015? What about all the other new superhero sets... won't they want those? Some say it is a big winner 2-3 years down the road, but what makes you so sure? The Brickpicker price guide says these have been selling at a rate of 10 or 20 per month on ebay ... so that means what... 50 or 100 per month on Amazon? There are 1790 Target stores in the USA. If investors are buying, say, 9 Steamrollers at each one, then they will have stockpiled 16,110 of these by next week. They'd better start selling them soon, because they'll need to move about 380 per month for the next three and-a-half-years. I hope everyone gets the ROI they had hoped for. Maybe I'm nuts. Maybe this will be the best investment of 2015. But I'm just going to sit this one out. If nothing else, it feels nice not being part of the feeding frenzy (for once).

  43. I think what's happened with the maersk ship is almost unprecedented. A set spends all its life at limit 2, then gets marked as retiring soon and limit raised to 5? Adds credence to the idea that Lego uses the retiring soon label to drive sales. Poor maersk ship. There's a lesson here for Lego about stickers. Seriously guys. How hard would it have been to just print the darn container pieces?
