  1. Took me long enough to realize the correct character but the zombie in the Mystery Machine set is the witch's zombie from the episode "Which Witch is Which?". Come to think of it now, the witch from the alleged Monsters Minifigures series is a bit similar too but then again that is going for the more traditional Halloween witch anyhow. Seeing LEGO going completely classic is a good thing on every level. The vampire in the Mystery Mansion is Dracula (of course) from the episode "A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts". For the Haunted Lighthouse, it's a mix of old and new. The ghost in the set is the Lighthouse Keeper which originated from the "Lighthouse Keeper Scooby" episode on the Richie Rich, Scooby-Doo Show but the minifigure's design is based on the more current version of What's New Scooby Doo? in "Frighthouse of a Lighthouse". The Swamp Monster seems to just be one of those characters added in for good measure as the closest monster I can find is the Lake Monster from the Scooby-Doo TV movie "Curse of the Lake Monster" which still was more of a frog...thingy. At least the minifigure is cool while I can't say the same about the film source.

  2. I never understood why a Ferrari needs to be red. Black is so much more classy and impressive. At least to me. Ontopic: If it is red you might have a point.

  8. What I like most about this theme (besides of the mistery machine and the Mystery Mansion) is the fact that it might potentially increase the value of my Haunted Houses as they just go brilliantly together with the scooby doo theme!

  10. Awesome sets. I picked these up today at TRU. However, boy did Lego miss a chance at an epic set number. They gave 75911 to the McLaren, and 75912 to the Porsche set. Really? You couldn't give 75911 to the Porsche?

  11. Really not sure. My theory is maybe people are searching for "Lego Millenium Falcon" and because there is less competition with that common misspelling, mine was getting higher on the first page. And with less competition comes higher prices. maybe the SEO game of eBay... Or I just got lucky? Either way it may be worth a shot and I figured I would share.

  12. From a pure production point of view there are 3 main phases: 1 - Injection moulding 2 - Detailing (printed bricks, minifigs) 3 - Packing Although TLG want to cap the number of active parts at any one time their main bottleneck would be on the packing line. The DS would take multiple passes on the line so would soak up a good chunk of a packing schedule. So it's not about the parts, it would be about how this set ranks in priority against other competing sets on the packing schedule. Keep in mind the number and volume of new SW sets required for the new movie later this year. Sep 2015 - Feb 2016 will be the biggest sales period in Lego history and Disney will be pushing (very) hard to make sure the shops have EpXII lego on the shelves. Any current SW set may not necessarily be retired for these reasons (there are other reasons though) but it is going to be struggle for them to get on the production schedule.

  15. Prudence in these words. Hobbit/LOTR lines 100% failed to find audience. Lots of sets produced & discounted. Not good things, usually. Future fans, collectors will have to seek out these sets in order for TOO et al to perform well. I am buying on a hunch, nothing more. This line looks just a little too kicked around.

  22. My belief is once this current stock (US) goes, it will be "sold out". The last run seems to be a correction of a 34 or 39 week run, thus not new production. All other LOTR license is finished.

  28. That's probably not a bad thing, my wallet needs a bit of a break! You're right though there's nothing in stores that really says "buy me!" at the moment. Sets I think that will do well long term are the three OT Star Wars sets; Cantina, AT-AT and ISD, but these all have a lot of shelf life left in them. Maybe Bennys Spaceship if bought at a discount which might be done by mid-year, that's about it really. Of the remaining in-store exclusives nothing excites me too much, I'm not too confident on the Sea Cow, Ewok Village or Simpsons House, even with 20% off it might take a while after EOL for these to pay a decent return. Unfortunately the crappy Australian Dollar has taken away many options of bargain buys from the US, which makes life tough for us!

  29. Sorry to say that but some people here seem to be plainly naive. LEGO ideas is a wonderful theme and a lot of awesome designs are offered frequently. The idea behind the ideas project is just ingenious! You get somebody (thousands of somebodies!!!) to design stuff for you and all the potential customers can decide about it. So not only you get free model designers but also you get a free public-opinion poll. (But not only in terms of the designed sets! Also they can see what people are interested in generally!) And all that you had to do was uploading an internet page. They even can influence everything on the page by picking the staffs favorites etc. So when finally some of these free designs reaches the 10.000 mark it's getting serious for TLC! They've got to pick at least one. (And tell the rest how awesome they are and that they would have loved to produce all of them). Picking one is the only part where TLC actually has to work. What are they aiming for? 1. Producing an unforgetable set which is just awesome!!! ... yeah it would be nice I guess but that's not really the main goal here (sorry to burst your bubble ;-) ) 2. Producing a LEGO set which will probably do well on the market and can easily (and cheaply) be produced? ... YES! That's it... BANG! And honestly I think as a company that's where LEGO is doing it right. No messing around! People think a 22.000 bricks Helicarrier is cool? Yeah of course they do! But will people buy a 2500,00$ set? Eh... ... ... nope. (PPP 0,12 X 22000 = 2640). I mean would you? So of course the bigger sets really awe us and we are thinking: That's so cool why isn't it being produced by TLC?! I totally would buy one! (And people here would totally buy some more just for investment reasons...). But arriving back in the real world where you notice that a set with that many bricks does not cost 9,99$ you'll decide otherwise. TLC of course is aware of this (otherwise somebody would have made terrible choices when picking employees...). So the most expensive sets we will (probably) ever see are 400-500$ sets and there won't be that many of them. (Maybe with some inflation going on there will be but then this calculations has to be redone!). As for now TLC always did a great job picking the right sets. There is a huge fanbase when it comes to TBBT and Dr.Who, as well as Wall-E (and pixar-movies in general) and all of these sets can be easily produced, even if you decide to do a second run. Once people start to be realistic abut what TLC might eventually produce things will get interesting. The AT-AT by the way has about 6200 or more bricks which leaves us with a minimum price of somewhere in between 700 and 750$. I bet 100 people will easily buy at least 100x 129,99$ AT-ATs but only MAYBE 1 out of 100 will buy a 700$ AT-AT. As far as the AT-AT is involved I'd say that TLC knows that people want to see an UCS of it but they are not willing to produce one that is more expensive than maybe 300-400$.

  33. Try misspelling Millennium with 1 '******' (Millenium) if you are on eBay. Mine were sitting at $220 for too long so I went and copied the title of 1 that had just sold for $230. One of my co-workers pointed out that they spelled Millennium wrong. Over 100 new views in 24 hours and three sales. Wish I would have raised my price higher than $230. Might be worth a shot for you too.

  38. This is why topics have pages and pages of useless nonsense. Someone tries to be funny and says the Slave 1 THAT JUST CAME OUT is retiring and then a bunch of newer members start panicking and asking questions about it and it's no fault of their own. Can we keep the nonsense to a minimum please?

  44. The fact that is it is sitting on amazon at RRP is not in itself a concern. The only people really buying this at the moment are investors, and since the set has near zero B&M exposure at the moment, demand is pretty low. Other exclusives have the same problem, but WV is particularly seasonal, and few people browse amazon and LEGO Shop at Home for legos. Once a new WV set is sitting on store shelves, with this no where to be found demand will pick up. the reason WV and UCS sets do so well is that new collectors are constantly finding new sets on the shelves. Once you have one, the desire to collect more drives the huge demand. Most currently WV collectors already have WVM, but thousands of new collectors are discovering the series every year.

  46. I'd normally be excited about this type of theme but I agree, it's kind of busy looking. The ship isn't bad but I'm wondering if the cabin is scaled to fit a doll inside or not. If not, I'm even more meh on it. I think there is too much going on in these sets and the added busyness doesn't really add much to playability.
