  4. All you guys that don't like the Ewok Village and don't want to invest in a few I bet 99% of you will be panic buying when its to late and say man why didn't I get at least of few of these, don't worry it will go up in price very fast. With Double VIP I will be getting 8-10 of them. So don't make a big mistake and not get at least a few of these, you will be sorry if you don't. Ed

  5. I had a lady once ask if I could ship a used Ninjago Fire Temple mostly assembled.... She had a disabled kid who loved Lego but wasn't able to build and she said her fingers would get sore from all the assembling, reassembling as he played with them. To help her out, I ate a few bucks in the cost of shipping a larger box and packed it extra carefully so she only had a half dozen steps to reassemble. What did I get out of it? No feedback. Beeee.... not-so-nice-word ...... ch.

  6. I got my PC(s) with 31% off 6 months ago, so I really don't care if it is a good timing to get some now, or not... -I already have the number of sets I planned to get- Don't panic and stick to your plans. Buy when you see a deal in sets you want to invest in. All sets will retire sooner or later. It'll avoid you some panic and enjoy seeing people running around while you have a cocktail.

  7. *** PURE SPECULATION *** Hmm, maybe not stop but postpone ? If Disney insisted on paying for new boxes with their brand, wouldn't TLG need to stop producing the sets until the new boxes were designed and mass produced ? Also, this would give them the chance to clear out all of the old boxes by giving discounts. Once the new boxes are done, the discounts and Sold Out signs can be removed That would cause chaos for sure

  8. About Disney and exclusivity; Disney sure loves having their products rare and hard to find... at least for limited time before they disappear. Look at all the Frozen merchandise like the Dolls, they keep coming with new ones and the other products seem limited runs. Other thing: their DVD's and Blu-Rays of the Lion King for example are quite hard to find on regular bases. They keep re-releasing new versions in a limited run before they are hard to find again. If they do the same thing with their Starwars license then this could mean rarity all over on future sets. I hope it makes sence what i wrote above, i'm kinda in a rush at the moment. "Well, gotta go now, how am I supposed to send this thing out?"

  10. OK, here is a theory. All the new Star Wars sets are coming out with Disney branding who are rightfully putting their stamp on all their Star Wars assets. This is no doubt part of a new licensing agreement leading into the new films. Quite possible they also stipulated that existing sets pre Disney branding must be changed (effectively retiring the set) at some future date most likely before the new films are released. Think about it. R5, R2, MF going or gone no surprises there. But throw in S1, EV, SC and DS all in Oct just prior to a huge new wave of EP7 sets are released. Would that surprise you? Would that cause just the right amount of chaos?

  11. Forget about it rfish. He will not tell us if he knows about specifics. Which is good. Cause then we (the hoard/horde/herd) will jump on these sets and they will crumble under its own success. You have to use your own brain and analyse the market. No guts no glory.

Usually non existent. Think the steam rollers are plentiful enough they will hit 50% off.

  19. The emperor did say he sent an entire battalion of his "best troops" to Endor, so I'm assuming these are highly trained troops and not just conscripts. But you're right, the Ewoks had home field advantage and used it well. They look cutesy but they don't shy away from murdering people - they were about to cook Han for dinner until Leia showed up.

  21. OK from what gregpj said on the one mscheaf mentioned that was not a box change that was a different product. There is a difference between a obsoletion and replacement (those are not our terms but they are printing and fulfillment terms) and updating the box art under the same sku. It makes complete sense that it would be easier to obsolete the part and replace it with a new upc and product than trying to refresh the old one (even if all contents are identical). But I will stay with that I am wrong and mscheaf is right. Hope that makes him happy. He can get back to telling us the town hall and r2 and everything else is not retiring.

  23. I appreciate a good stand up double. I also appreciate opinion, although those opinions can be shared with more tact at times. I'm not a huge fan of this set, but did I mention I like a good stand up double? As a Royals fan, I've come to accept good small ball--every at bat isn't a home run.

  25. Ah! But you assume a flat universe. If the modulars exist on a 3D manifold, then three 90-degree turns could complete the block. In which case, no more corner buildings are needed and this set is done. I have no proof that my modulars exist on a spherical transform, it's just a theory.

  26. Sorry to say that but the way you argue is fatuitous/narrow-minded. You hate Ewoks, you don't invest. That's alright with me and I couldn't care less. But seriously investing (especially with big money) is not about your personal liking or disliking of something. If you only buy sets for small money and your emergency plan is to open them and use them yourself if you don't get as much as you wanted for them your personal taste might be important. But I guess nobody here opens 10 R2D2s even if he likes them. (okay bad example, I actually can imagine how people would open 10 R2D2 just to put them everywhere and build cool tables etc. ^.^ ). For most sets I buy it's true that I like them and it's difficult for me to invest into sets that I don't really like, but still I do (because it's not about owning them myself but about selling them later on). Do I like the UCS Helicarrier? Nope... Did I buy one? Nobody cares :-P (but yes I did...). It's the same with the UCS Tumbler or SC and so on. "At RRP... 1x EV = 12x RI, let's see how it pans out a year from now." --> That's the second point why to me your argument isn't any good. Selling 1xEV is 12 times less work than selling 12x RI. Personally I do not see how this is so much of a win. You might be right about it being the winner financially speaking, but I wouldn't be too sure about it (especially if you count in your time selling it etc.). Also 12x RI is 12x the risks that come with selling. I don't say that EV is one of the sets I'll go big with, but my aim is to get my minimum full of them. So let's see what other sets there are that might be worth getting (which might be close to EOL): - ToO - UCS X-Wing - PC - ((probably not anywhere close) UCS Sandcrawler) - Seacow - PS That's it for me when talking about the bigger ones (other people here might have other opinions). EV Contra: 1. it's expensive 2. not necessarily made for display purposes only but rather as a play set 3. Ewoks might not be the most popular thing in the SW universe 4. Collectors might not want it as much as they want other UCS because of points 2 and 3 Pro: 1. it's expensive! (you people know why this is a Pro don't you?) 2. not necessarily made for display purposes but rather as a play set --> personally I do not agree because it depends on how you display. If you want to display Star Wars scences (and that's a lot of fun!) then this set is pretty nice for it even though it's not a large model of some vehicle... And even though the opinions about this set when it comes to being displayed are divided I've seen not few reviews or posts where people discribe it as an eye-catcher (even compared to other UCS SW). 3. Ewoks might not be the most popular thing in the SW universe, but they are cute little furballs and even though I agree that it's a little bit silly how they've been used in the movies it's a matter of perspective. A lot of (female) friends of mine just LOVE the Ewoks because they are so adorably cute. Also children are not as bothered about them as adults might be. Will parents stop showing their children the original movies? Maybe, but probably not for a long time... Oh there are those cool Ewoks and the Ewok village! One of the main settings in the final movie of that triology... oh and look! there even is a LEGO set for it! doesn't sound like people might be looking for it in a couple of years? I guess one can argue... 4. Collectors might still want it just because it's an UCS or maybe they don't... I mean honestly it doesn't matter which UCS SW we're talking about, there always will be collectors who will want it and those who won't. Do I want to own a SSD? Nope... But I really wanted an AT-ST and if there ever is an AT-AT I'm in for that too! It's a personal thing and with 7 billion people on this planet there are enough potential customers for every UCS. 5. BECAUSE investors ambivalent feeling about this set there might not be as much competition later on... In conclusion this set might not seem like an obvious winner but also it doesn't seem like a total loser. To me it's one of the more thrilling Sets that came out the last years. Also: I don't get what exactly should be wrong with the box art... I mean I don't think people really care that much about it anyway. (Yeah okay the new UCS Tie Fighter box art really is cool and makes you wanna buy it! But most box arts are more or less neutral I'd say). The wonderful thing about LEGO these days it that there are so many cool sets that potentially are a good investment that it doesn't really matter if you buy EV or else. I only want to point out that EV has quite some qualities which stand in favor for it compared to other UCS. If you are an investor it doesn't really matter... if you miss the boat on EV it probably won't hurt you as much as missing the boat on the MF or the Imperial Flagship etc. did. I don't think EV will come close behind some of these sets but if it does I'd be upset not to own at least one or two of them.

  31. If you think 6866 is only doing pretty good, you'd better be prepared for disappointment down the road It is doing phenomenal considering MSRP and when it was actually retired. I would check the prices for the rest and sell (I know Canada is different than US) since the upcoming remakes are going to kill the values of those sets

  33. I was going to argue at first but then realized that you (seemingly) are essentially comparing CAGR per modular starting on it's EOL/Sold Out date. This is valuable thinking, despite my doubt that it will actually happen. What certainly(!) will NOT happen is FB/GE/PS/PC etc. doing "just as well as GG" when directly compared to it as an "in at MSRP" investment at any given moment, or in the long run. All that additional demand will apply nearly as much to CC/GG/MS as it does to the others, and the supply on those is so low in comparison that the value should always be at a premium, and the later sets should NEVER catch up. I think you basically would agree, but I just wanted to put it in a different perspective for some of the newer audience who may not be fully informed.

  36. I like to call them up from time to time and ask if they have any advice for resellers. I'll complain about how 9450 and 10188 never seem to die, but TH up and disappears out of order, and we'll have a good laugh together. The Lego frontline troops, so to speak, aren't obsessed with clobbering resellers, but some of the back office guys most certainly are. My serious advice would be to space out purchases of large exclusives, even if they're limit 5.

  40. I love this set. I don't build much but would love to do a huge scene with a few of these, the shield generator battle, and the death star hanging above. Never understood the ewok hate, they work perfect in the movie.

  41. Ciglione and Tabby so basically you are saying you can't stand this set so everyone will avoid it and you will corner the market right?
    1 point
  42. Why surprising? One of the most frustrating things about building Lego imo is applying the stickers of a set properly. I would get depressed if I'd look at the EEE sticker sheet. And if you put it on display, after x time, you can peal off the stickers, buy a new sticker sheet and start over. Would have been much more attractive if they just added printed parts and made it just a bit more expensive. At Europe, the EEE was sold out last time I checked so I believe this one is out the door.

  46. I use giftcardgranny (Canadian version) and giftscardswild. Not promoting either or anything, but I've used them successfully. I almost pulled the trigger on a Futureshop $500 card with a 12% discount to buy Lego, but it was gone while I was hemming and hawing. I don't like Cardswap's point system...you need to use them exclusively to make it work. A man needs options!

  47. So you are the one whos stuff keeps getting cubiscanned and charging me more for my stuff! I'm constantly battling them to re-cubiscan my retail stuff to get it back to the proper cubic size. Then go back and correct every wrong fee...which is like pulling teeth.

  49. This isn't aimed at you, humanvege, and I'm probably among the minority, but I'm glad they're finally doing this. It will become the norm as more and more people abuse the return policies at various retailers. I know, I know, they have a return policy, you're not doing anything wrong, you're the customer, you're always right. Here's the thing, they don't want people buying up every hot set during peak selling opportunities, just so that they can return the rest of the sets they can't sell when the time has passed. Now the retailer is stuck with a bunch of stuff they can't sell for a while when they could have sold it all to end users to begin with. Everyone thinks it's no big deal because they're just one person, but this is going to continue to be a problem as more and more people abuse returns.
