  1. I think there is too much analysis going on here. It's really not that complicated. LEGO has a production plan for every set. Most follow that plan within a couple of months of the original dates. If it is a more popular set like the HH, it will sell out before the original date was reached. If it is an unpopular set, it could last well past the original retirement date. The unpopular and poor selling sets will see "Retiring Soon" notices or possible discounts. That being said, sometimes there are outliers in the system...Sets that either sell very, very well and production runs are extended or on the negative side, sets that sell poorly and are removed early. There are also sets that have production issues in which some components of the set...bricks...instructions...boxes...make it too costly to continue production. Could LEGO be messing with EOL dates? Absolutely. But most sets will continue their normal production lives for the reasons I mentioned above.

  2. A HUGE THANK YOU TO GREGPJ FOR FIXING THE PAYPAL SHIPPING ISSUE. IT WAS QUICK AND PAINLESS BUT FRESH EYES AND A FRESH MIND PREVAILED!!!!!! REALLY PAYPAL SUPPORT DIDN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION WITH GREAT SCREENSHOTS. GREGPJ PICKED UP THAT THE ISSUE MAY BE THAT THE TRANSACTIONS WERE BEING SENT AS PERSONAL PAYMENTS AND NOT GOODS. I UPDATED THAT CALL AND DID A TEST TRANSACTION BETWEEN ED AND MYSELF AND WHAMMO! YOU CAN SEE IN THE IMAGE BELOW THAT THE LINKS ARE THERE TO DO SHIPPING. I HOPE THIS SOLVES THE ISSUE FOR EVERYONE. THANKS GREGPJ!!!!!!! These links will probably only show up for new transactions. I am pretty sure it won't fix previous ones.

  5. This set is just like RI in that it has very little risk to it. Its cheaply priced, is pretty cool and was not available like a lot of regularly produced mainstream sets. It was only available through LEGO and some dot coms. It will have been out for a short time compared to other sets as well. Sure its stacked in LEGO stores right now. That will change as usual.

  6. Let me explain so you can understand...... When you have a family with kids, it's damn expensive. Not that I'm complaining, it's just very, very expensive. You don't have a bunch of diposable income to invest. When you do, it's really not that much and the investing and then waiting for profit is slow.....very slow. Especially if you are new to this as I am (I am only like 8-9 months in). Also, when your wife sees that you are using the disposable income to buy Lego, even if you explain that you are going to make money, she won't be fully convinced until you start raking in some money. For someone like me who is new and the sets I have are not quite close to retirement or some that are, it will take a long time for me to see any profit. If you have been playing this investing game for a while like you have, you have had time to build up your portfolio and money and can make a convicing argument to your girlfriend that this is a great side business you are doing. Plus, you don't have kids. If I didn't have kids and I could invest all that I wanted, I am sure that I could have already convinced my wife that this is a great side business that is making extra money for the family. But that hasn't happened yet and I am sure it will but it is going to take some time. I can't blame wives and/or husbands that are skeptical. I would be too and wouldn't really believe it until I saw some cash start rolling in.

  7. I tried to look at it in a different way... how many modulars were available in total during a year: 2007: 2 (MS CC) 2008: 3 (MS CC GG) 2009: 4 (MS CC GG FB) 2010: 3 (GG FB GE) 2011: 3 (FB GE PS) 2012: 4 (FB GE PS TH) 2013: 5 (FB GE PS TH PC) 2014: 5 (GE PS TH PC PR) 2015: 4 (PS PC PR DO) Hope this helps. p.s. Are there any rumours for a new modular coming out in the fall? This would make things even more interesting.

  8. I'd believe their obvious message to consumers is simply that they are giving everyone who wants one at retail price advance notice. It will be a very short run for a lego set, and inline with other non licensed ideas sets.

  9. Definitely wasn't very cryptic. LEGO clearly could use a lesson in riddles.

  12. Whats happening lego people? I found this site On Sunday, lost all semblance of reason becuase I read it until 3 am (7am start time at work) every night since and just blew my 1st thousand on legos to invest in. This is the place of my people. I love my job, but I LOVE hunting down diamonds, and turning a profit. Its the rush. Just wanted to thank everyone for contributing to this awesome site. ITs definitley led me to make some purchases, and I hope that I can grow it readily. ...So far, I found 3 sets of series 2 mixles, 3 sets of series 3, 2 t1s, 1 mini, 1 DGB, 1 Blocktober set, 4 Ecto-1s, 4 Exo-suits, 4 treehouses, and a few Star wars mins to play with. The plan is to diversify (any good investor does that right?) and build a few racks, and hold long on the bigger sets. Looking to get into a few sea cows, SOH, TB, , then amass mixle sets, t1s, star wars, and idea sets for the holiday season. How do you all diversify your collection?

  13. I think you might be confused. Thread titles are what the thread isn't about. For example, all modular EOL speculation can be found in the Palace Cinema thread and all local Target clearance finds and Walmart Creative Tower order statuses are in the Daily Deals thread.

  14. Target clearance... 20 joker steam rollers at $35/each. 6 x-men sentinels at $35/each. 4 metal beards at $25/each. My tax rate is 5.5%, so the redcard basically negates tax. I left several sets that were also marked down. Lots of agents, secret police dropship, hobbit lake town, and most of the new turtles sets. Go to your Targets, people!

  16. I think that the "chaos" which is coming (according to Ed Mack) is about amazon and other online retailers which will not be allowed anymore to make their usual discounts on lego sets. And if amazon do not agree, they will no receive anymore lego sets. But you'll still be able to buy some sets online on toys'r us for example, but at RRP. I think that the time when we were able to get some sets with 30% off on amazon is behind us. I have no proof, I just see what's going on in my country on amazon: no more discounts on the new sets (for the 2015 sets), no more modulars available on amazon (since a while), fewer and fewer different sets on amazon (more can be found on the LEGO Shop at Home). RRP everywhere, in online and B&M shops ? Man, THAT would be a real "chaos".

  17. So we started out with some unfounded speculation that the PC could retire early, which spawned a bunch of discussion about that. And now the resulting increase in posts is being cited as evidence that something may be afoot with this set. Circular logic at its best.
    2 points
  18. You are right. That is a very good deal. I have not seen any discounts on this set yet.

  19. My problem is that I want to reinvest every dime I make and my inventory perpetually grows. The wife isn't crazy about that strategy, but it will pay off long-term. I just need her to see that.

  23. I know I can he bold and abrasive at times. And I never want to be totally disrespectful but really?.... Are you trolling. Like honestly. Why would you return a set that you could sell right now for much more then you paid and make a profit? I honestly don't think any response you could propose would be valid or make any sense. Or why not offer it to people here.

  24. 'Not undercutting' talk is too close to collusion talk. You just gotta wait for the knuckleheads happy to make $5 a set to sell first. I'm watching it play out now with the helicarriers on ebay.

  31. Today is that special day at TRU where the 40% BOGO on City/Star Wars (ends this weekend) stacks with the 10% CC offer. Time to hit all my TRUs: Here's the haul. Note, I do pay sales tax at 7.75%. I also get 8% back in TRU rewards, which makes that effectively a wash. Hence, prices below are true-price, out-the-door. 6x Mine 4204, $57.58/ea 4x Mine Excavator 4203, $25.18/ea 4x SW Jedi Cruiser, $53.98/ea 4x SW MTT Transport, $64.79/ea 8x Ninjango Mechdragon, $17.98/ea The Mechdragons are literally a steal at this price. I've been moving them off the local Craigslist for $40 easily. Did someone figure the part-out value on these? Don't they have 5 minifigs or something? I've honestly not looked closely. Wonder what those would bring at my local Bricks and Minifigs store. EDIT: checked the box, looks like 5 minifigs and 691 pieces. That's 2.6 cents/piece, wow! Better deal than the creative tower.

  32. Respectively, that's just speculation. We have no evidence FB and others WON'T repeat GG performance. FB and GE are both out performing GG at this stage in their life cycle, by a large amount. GG sold for $280 18 months after EOL. GE is now at $280 just 4 months post EOL. FYI.

  33. My set, BTW. QFLLed to that JANG guy last week

  34. Perhaps it is a lack of patience or belief in the set's value potential by those sellers. With the announced retirement literally just around the corner, I would wait. Classic Space will always be popular amongst LEGO fans old and new. At least that is my speculation.

  38. now i wonder how they ship the 3 ones. i am concerned about that one ... 2+2+1 are good. 2 in the lego carton and 1 in the walmart 19X12X10 box .. perfect fit. i don't know how they ship the dyamn 3 ones ... in retrospect i should have ordered 4/order rather than 5. NMM, in your guesstimate how many CT did they release yesterday ? i am guessing about 1000.... am i close?

  43. I don't think people realize how big a TIE fighter actually is. I play the X-Wing miniatures game, and the ships are scaled based on the actual production models. Based on this, I think the UCS TIE will be pretty much spot on in terms of size when displayed next to Red Five.

  45. Clearance at non-Lego retailers does NOT equal End of Life. There are many MANY examples of sets clearanced at the end of 2012, and the end of 2013 that clearanced out from Walmart & Target that came back in full force. It has to do with shelf space, seasonality of toy purchasing, and perhaps many other things we have no idea about. The bat cave was clearanced out and came back. The Xwing was clearanced out and came back. The Falcon was clearanced out and came back. I'm more than willing to bet that will be the same case with items like the AT-AT and Star Destroyer. Now clearance prices at Lego.com and Lego B&M stores DO tend to signal EOL.

  46. Because I hope they learn from the feedback and organize their shipping in such a way that minimizes returns due to bad shipping practices? Me not buying from them only means lost customer for them. Returning badly damaged sets, with reason for return being "damaged due to bad packaging" hopefully, as a form of feedback, will eventually result in better packaging. Obviously there is a risk that they will introduce more return policy restrictions instead, but I don't see any other way to provide feedback.

  47. buying 3k legos, returning 1k .. is pretty much abusing the return policy. That means you returned 33% of all legos bought in that period of time. Just think about if you ran a ebay or amazon store and 33% of your customers wanted to return sealed sets they bought from you because they found it cheaper .. how pissed would you be?
