How many $ 100+ sets have retired unexpectedly within such a short time? One would think that a short-term retirement decision like that is much easier for small sets that have caused hardly any design cost. But for the larger ones - I'd say a big set would have to sell really, really badly to cut it off that quickly. So does anyone know if an expensive set has gotten that treatment before? Personally I'd say that none of the new trains is retiring, I just don't see a good reason.2 points

Yes it is. She's not really pissed either, thank god. I explained some LEGO investments paid off well enough to pay for it. As for my next complaint, we have another blizzard coming tomorrow night into Sunday night.2 points

If you need filler for a set that is $39.9x, this works: http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=54766956 I'll be donating mine to a toy drive or something.2 points

"Fabrication" is a bit harsh. There's been solid data and info this last week that point to a *possible* retirement of 60052 (and maybe 60051). - 60052 (and 60051) are listed as "Sold Out" on SAH on every site except US/Canada. - Pictures and discussion of a new cargo train, 60098 have been published the last 2 days, including on respected blogs. - 60098 duplicates much of 60052, including similar rolling stock and inclusion of power functions, track, a cargo terminal, and accessories. - 60098 is clearly NOT an HE replacement, it's numbered in the City series. - 60052 has been discounted world-wide the last 10 days - at least one stock manager told a BP member that the discounts "were at the direction of the supplier" - other BP members have talked with B&M managers, who've said 65002 "isn't coming back into stock if another train is released" The above isn't "fabrication". In fact, its an intriguing set of clues. Which is why the retirement discussion has heated up. Even our own Ed has chimed in saying this wouldn't be unprecedented. Take all this for what its worth. Personally, such discussion and facts are a reason this site is so awesome. I've made some decisions on this whole matter and spent a bit of money to back it up; like all things here, it may or may not be correct and result in a payoff.1 point

In other fruitcake news, they're starting to reply to my local CS ads. Well if they're so much cheaper (I have them listed at $80 or less if you want more than 1), go buy them there. With our tax, TRU's price is about $79 for a 1000 brick box if you can find one. Morons. I was a lot more polite in my reply but I didn't want to be.1 point

The UCS shuttle will not be impacted by this at all. I expect slow but steady growth of this iconic and awesome set (UCS). Another UCS falcon might hurt the old one but no smaller ones will.1 point

If I were single & desperate, I'd probably sit at a table closet to the Qdoba register all day. Funny, I've never heard of them, figured they were east coast. Look it up and they're all around me, but 30+ miles away in each direction..1 point

Well, it clearly is the end of the world as we know it. Nothing will ever be like it used to be. Today train sets retire after 6 months, tomorrow a meteorite destroys whole continents. Slippery slope.1 point

If you're looking to load up, never too early to start. Just know that money will be tied up for a long time.1 point

If you where asking this question in February of 2016 I would tell you that its a bit too early. This set is a great set of a great ship. There is no way it goes before mid to the end of 2016. go after sets closer to expected OEL (Red 5).1 point

It is an IE thing. I run into the same problem when I use it .1 point

It wouldn't surprise me that Lego is going to screw all those investors stockpiling PS by a suddenly EOL of PC. Official press release: 'Thank you all dear horders for increasing our ususally bad January sales by buying the PS in large numbers; in fact so large that we couldn't keep up with production. Now, due to bad sales of the PC we are going to retire this one and produce the PS for another 2 years'. :-P1 point

Might have more potential. The first 2 weeks Birds was on Amazon, it was the #1 ranked seller in toys. That's an important data point. This set has massive appeal to folks not usually interested in Lego. FYI.1 point

Went to a huge semi-annual consignment sale with my wife this afternoon and found a used 4708: Hogwarts Express in the box. ($50) Couldn't believe it. Opened the box to check contents before buying and set was partially put together in excellent condition with no dust build up. Instructions were also in the box and looked like they'd never been used. Needless to say I put in an inquiry about getting in touch with the consignor to see if they had any other sets they needed to get rid of.1 point

Exo-Suit's biggest challenge is that it wasn't the RI upon release. A lot of people, not just BPers, thought it would be. This thing will be fine long term.1 point

Oh there's no "lose" in Mixels as far as I'm concerned. I just hope we can move them sooner than later. I hope that BP member that's being talked about up's his asking price. If he holds that much power over prices, it could be wise for him as well. I was gonna say, it better not be Alpinemaps! haha. He wouldn't keep them too low. lol1 point

This is not related to the Birds set, but thank you to all above that expressed concern about our cat. I haven't been back on here since then to post. Unfortunately, we had to put her to sleep last Saturday, so it's been a rough week and a half. Again, I appreciate it, and please give all of your cats, or pets of whatever furry kind, a hug and appreciate them while they're still here.1 point

This is one time where a person could say they flipped the bird and not be referring to a certain universal hand gesture.1 point
