All this practice does is hurt the legitimate ebay sellers including most of you on here, yet every time one of these type auctions comes up of $50 Death Stars or half price this and that people bid on them with the hope they are going to get something that will never come. It affects ebay sellers as a whole as ebay then takes proactive measures like restricting additional accounts a legitimate user may have or putting harsher monthly limits on sellers to protect them from getting more damage from hacked accounts. If something is over 50% off on a hot item you know its not legitimate so why bother!!!! The attitude that I am covered by paypal and ebay so it doesn't matter is the wrong one to have. It still have repercussions on the site as a whole. Just report these type auctions instead of purchasing them and hoping for the best.9 points

I'm not trying to bust your you know what but your attitude is precisely why scammers are so successful. Your logic is if it's a scam oh well ebay or paypal has got my back. Meanwhile the scammer got away Scott free with your money. Who do think reimburses you? The thief? It comes from PayPal or ebay who have to foot the bill, and then people wonder why the fees they charge keep going up and up.8 points

I ended up placing a couple orders from zavvi.com after they were rumored to be sold out. I didn't think I would get anything but today I got a nice surprise in the mail! I read they made 500 of each color, I ended up with 4 copies of red vinyl and one of them is #000001 as shown in the photo! Never expected that! If anyone ends up with an extra yellow and wants to trade for a red, keep me in mind. Time to break out the wheels of steel.. lol4 points

Ah, the classic Chinese 'Lego to Jewelry' bait and switch. It's the oldest trick in the book. I still have a giant heap of costume jewelry where my stack of MISB 10179's is supposed to be. I just can't bring myself to take the loss and accept that the UCS Falcons I was promised by 'supertrustguy99' (only $99 each with free shipping!) will never arrive... I mean, delivery from China can take a long time, right?2 points

Point taken I shall see if I can get in touch with ebay regarding a possible scam. In the future I will be a lot more careful not to be taken in.2 points

That could have been easily covered had USPS stopped subsidizing those damn mails from China.2 points

I am a seller that calls them new. If I part out a set (minifigs), are they used because I sliced open a big bag to take the minifigures out? I don't use stock photos on sets like that and I also list a good description of what was done so it isn't a surprise. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Brickpicker mobile app2 points

Something about Star Wars and spaceships seems to trump all rationale when it comes to Lego investing. I have an equal share of these two so I'm happy to see either win. Assuming TOO poofs out completely soon, I expect Red Five to win the 1-2 yr appreciation race and TOO wins long-term.2 points

I might have bought a couple of those X-Wings at Sam's Club, but I'm not sure what they finally cleared out at? I think I saw them at $19.81. I thought about rigging them with some rocket kits for some Saturday night fun.2 points

It seems that quite few sets (in comparison with the 1st wave) have been produced for the 3rd wave, especially this set. To be true, I've only seen this set... in online stores. Now it's only available on LEGO Shop at Home in my country. But maybe we are an exception, who knows. So, what if there are no more, let's say, on march/april ? Will lego produce some more sets, considering that movies are no more on screens and new lego themes are coming and retailers shelves will need some more room for those ? Quite unlikely to see another run next month IMO... (only the very last one to fulfill retailers backorders, as usual) Smaug could be one of the most expensive lego figure, ever... (I mean non-limited, but removed from a set) We'll see some more Hulk minifigs, some more Darth vader, rancor... but how many smaug ? I wonder how many time will we have to wait to see on ebay some knock-offs from china.1 point

mscheaf so that no one interprets me wrong - I am not saying it is retiring. i am not saying it is even close to retiring. No one please read my comment as it is retiring. I am saying for instance the arctic supply plane lasted 4-6 months and if you call LEGO Shop at Home they say it is retired. There is a new lego retirement game possibly afoot that we do not understand. If the LOTR license goes (which we have no basis for) then this is the only other set of LOTR Hobbit I want to collect some of. So since I want to have some for sure, I am going to choose to invest into it. It could be a bad choice. I don't know. Realistically this should last into 2016 at least. Common logic would say it will be here until late 2016. But beyond the one for me from the Meijer santa bucks sales I have no other and would like to have a few before it goes - 2015, 2016, 2017, etc., etc. Plus put that with online only in my area and I just feel the need to get a few (maybe 5) in case. Could other sets retire early and I miss them? Sure and that's fine. This is one I want a few of. Not buying 20 now. A few. We've been suggested to invest early and buy spread out smoothly and often to avoid the panic. I want some with me to avoid any panic down the road.1 point

Amazing how many times it needs to be said on the internet. And this isn't directed at the person with the troll award. @mscheaf - If you ever get the itch to build, the UCS are pretty awesome builds. I haven't built all of them, but they tend to be a lot more "rewarding" than regular Lego sets due to their scale!1 point

Yeah, I went to the Lego Store yesterday intending to use my Feb coupons with a SW battle pack as well. But ended up walking out with a Red 5 instead. My wallet was not prepared for that, but it was calling to me....1 point

Dark blue is called earth blue by Lego. There are several "earth" colors, and they all correspond to "dark" in common names. Here's a good reference on color names across BO/BL/Lego/Peeron: http://www.brickowl.com/colors1 point

After being inspired by Alpine, my family is now hooked on Mixels. When you consider that "build your own mini-figs" are four bucks a pop in-store, and include 7 pieces- and that for only six bucks the Mixels are 70+ pieces, the value is exceptional. But more so, the builds are outstanding.. We're current through Series 2 and 3, but wish we had had the foresight when Series 1 was available. These are great sets, for both a family build with the kiddo's, and - in my opinion- a solid investment for future re-sale.1 point

I think the EOL of every set is always in the end of year. Only exceptions are: a) some sets are sold out 2-3 months before expected EOL, so the stocks are cleared and TLG doesnt produce further wave (since it plans to EOL) - but this happen nearly the end of year - in December, November, maximum in October (see the situation with TH, HH, etc). it is a special set from limited production or seasonal set, and people buy more sets than expected (41999, Ideas, winter set with temporary retiring status during the year). Am I right? Do you remember some unusual EOLs during the year? Based on this logic there is no need to panic with 42009 and buy it till the autumn. Otherwise such sets are just taking the place in my storage and blocking my money for longer time. Another good reason for waiting till October is that during this month is the most valuable period for buying - i can get double points + holiday bonus set. During the year I can get either double points without any polybag / bonus set or with a worthless bonus set (April) or just normal points with some interesting polybag (for example on May 4th). The only exception, when I buy the sets during the year, is an extra discount for them, or if there is a real risk that they will disappear till the autumn from my local store.1 point

My sleeper pick: Birds (21301). Great little set, $45 MSRP. I can easily see this going to $200+, or higher if a series-2 gets released. Theme is very much AFOL, and future AFOL fans will want this, very much. It's been an instant sell-out at the stores, and stock is low. For the very reasons that many here overlook it, that gives it that much more of a chance to be non-hoarded and hence rare upon EOL.1 point

How about this? Olivia's Basement: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=64484 Perhaps the best part of the MOC is the wall shadowing behind the ladder. If you read the post that's what inspired the moc in the first place.1 point

The first thing i thought when I saw this set a while back was steampunk also. I already have the Metalbeard duel set and building Metalbeard was one of the most fun Lego building experiences I've had--I love that model/figure/whatever with all it's steampunk vibe. I think this set could be very popular with steampunk fans, and if Lego ever did a steampunk theme that could add to the desirability of this set. As is I can already imagine having the Monster Fighters crew this thing--how cool would that look?1 point
