  1. Maybe for QFLL purposes, but this set isn't dead. The Ecto-1 is definitely not dead. That one will be a post EOL winner big time. Just because a set cannot be flipped for profit while still in production and widely available at retail cost doesn't make it "dead... for investment purposes." It's just not a good flip.

  4. Found one lone Series 1 Mixel at Target today and thought that was a good find but then I saw something I couldn't believe - a Horizon Express sitting on the bottom shelf!! Clearly it had to have been an online return, so of course I grabbed it, but when I scanned it, no price came up. I took it to the service counter and had already decided I would be purchasing it no matter what, but secretly hoping for a huge discount. After a few minutes, I was told it was $115.46, which was 30% off of an inflated original Target price of $164.99. After the red card discount, it came to $109.69, 15% below the true MSRP. Not a huge discount, but since this set is nowhere to be found at retail anymore, needless to say, I was quite happy with my find!

  6. On eurobricks today: "Okay, update on the rumored 10179 rerelease. I spoke with the informant over the phone today about whether there was going to be an updated 10179. My bud was at the toy fair in NYC and supposedly they had a private behind closed doors event for dealers that showcased a few products we haven't seen yet. There was a falcon on display that was different than 10179 that had lights and new features. However, according to my informant, this isn't the new UCS. They aren't remaking 10179. Period. Economically, lego felt it wouldn't work well with their intended market (children) and the price point would have made hard core adult collectors cringe. I sat there on the phone disappointed when the conversation took another turn. There was another model on display that lego was pitching as the next BIG UCS. As I've stated previously, my informant owns a toy shop and isn't an

  7. To not be modest, I actually dropped 32lbs from June to mid September this year and I'm still losing weight in bits and pieces. My hockey team had a weight loss challenge that I won and made $160 ( bought the team round after the game). 2 key factors for my weight loss is 1) I drastically reduced my carb intake. I will usually get my carbs from fruit not breads. 2) I eat to not be hungry instead of eating to be full. This is the lightest I've been in over ten years and I have to say it feels great.

  9. In general, I'm in the 'if it hasn't appreciated much in the first year, dump it' camp. However, with the LR train there's a separate issue. Target clearanced these (again) several months ago for $70. I do think that messes with predictions a bit for this set, as there are lots of flippers out there who will take their $15 profit and move on. So I give the train another six months to show me what it can do. As for the others, if I had them, I'd sell them. Edit: True story. I bought lots of 10144 Sandcrawlers back in the day for $100 each. Thought I'd get $200 for 'em after a year. But after 12 months the price was more like $160. Awful appreciation off a $140 MSRP base. But I love jawas and I love sandcrawlers, so I held for another 2 years and sold at $350 - $400. It was worth the wait.

  10. When you have an order and you are ready to ship it. You will change the status of the order from "in process" to "shipped", a window will pop up and you can pick from a handful of shipping vendors and paste in the tracking information. Your buyer will get an email that it has been shipped and include a link to the tracking on the shippers site.

  13. One Wal-Mart 3 x 31021 Furry Creatures - $13 2 x 3817 Flying Dutchman - $17 3 x 76022 X-Men vs. Sentinel - $35 6 x 9493 X-Wing - $30 - I was going to leave a damaged one behind, until I scanned and saw this price. They were unmarked in the Lawn & Garden section. I might go back, lots of $54 Unexpected Gathering, 3 x $49 Family House, 2 x Lake-Town Chase MSRP, 3 x $40 Cragger Command Ship, 1 x each Republic Gunship & Sail Barge, both a little trashy. They had a red tag for $64 Bike Shops, none left. Lots more too... I can't believe how hard it is to find the City Tow Truck for the $13 clearance price, they disappeared quick.

  14. Welcome to BP Ducky. Ciglione has a good point, you can only benefit from getting to know your product intimately. I know there are peeps that don't and still do well but they are far and few between I'm sure. The biggest benefit I see from this is being able to make decisions on your own (hopefully finding that sleeper set nobody else figured out) and not relying on others mis/information in the future. On the whole this a very informative forum and the community is willing to share helpful information as long as an effort is put to researching the forums before asking lazy questions. For your initial investment set I would recommend reading through some of the specific set topics and you'll read members pros and cons of that particular set. I'm sure you will come to a decision that you'll be confident with on your own. Good luck!

  18. I just found this set 2015 at a Toys R'Us store near Charleston, West Virginia. I didn't waste any time building the model (without using the instructions) and writing up an article which describes the part selection, the build process and the finished model. The finished model is very detailed but pretty small. I enjoyed the build and think the finished model looks good. It is about average for a set in the Architecture series. It is a bit more repetitive and less engaging than some of the other models such as Big Ben, Eiffel Tower or UN Headquarters sets. The part selection includes rare and expensive parts, and is a great addition to a LEGO Architecture Studio collection of White bricks. The most noteworty part is 87994 (Bar 3L) in White, since the set includes 46 of them. That part is rare, and currently runs for 0.43$/part on Bricklink, so we should expect prices for that part in secondary markets to collapse. If you want to see more photos and learn more about this fun new Architecture set, you can see my blog post athttp://tomalphin.com Sincerely, ---tom

Looks like 2015 will be a banner year for those of us lucky enough to listen the wise 'old' men's advice and stock up on exclusives over the past months and years!

  26. My tru had the elsa castle out yesterday. They said they only got 6 in and I got the last one. Was going to qfll but it looks like they are only selling for $65 shipped on ebay and my local craiglist has them at $60. After taxes my cost being $45 just doesnt seem like much profit margin there. My 5 year old daughter already found it and is offering her unopened Olivia house that she got for Christmas. That might be my best offer.

  28. Maybe the thinking is that these are pretty much AFOL-only-ish sets that most kids aren't going to play with, so they might as well release sets that will be well-reviewed and impressive enough in scale to tempt folks in their 30s/40s that grew up on the show. I know I'd rather have a couple cool large sets than 3 or 4 piddly sets (I'm looking at you, some of the LOTR and Hobbit sets)

  32. I've only got one myself but i'm thinking of picking up a couple additional sets. Because it's available from limited sources, its probably the least hoarded of the TLM themed sets. It's already trending well on Ebay and it's not EOL yet. Also, the fire MECH from this set pairs well with Emmet's Construct-o-mech.

  33. Just a FYI for some of the newer members. Some of them might even be reading this thread without posting. What I'm about to type is just my opinion through Lego and other investing. My experience is from the Toy Story, City, Monster Fighter, and Cars theme. You will notice that some members bought Lone Ranger sets at a very low price (say 50% off) and they don't mind holding onto LR sets. This is good advice but you need to see what works for your portfolio and strategy. Myself? I give pretty much all sets 1 year to appreciate from MSRP (aka retail price) and not the price I paid. MSRP is a far better indicator of growth since everyone will have one common baseline as a starting point. Additionally, the highest 12 month ROI % is 99% of the time during the first year. Then the 2nd highest 12 month growth period will be the 2nd year. Note: MSRP will vary by country. Now If I see good growth during the any set's 1st year after retirement, these sets will be held another 1-3 years. So what do I do with sets with below avg growth (from MSRP) during the 1st year? (For example, the 10227 UCS B-Wing which sold got $199.99 MSRP and appreciated to $215 (or so) after 12 months. ). I usually sell most if not all of these sets since the money can be used elsewhere (also known as opportunity cost of keeping something). ( I ended up selling all my 10227s which allowed me to buy 10224 Town Hall, 10226 Sopwith Camel, 10228 Haunted House, and Arkham Breakout sets. Thus... So please follow your gut and invest to match your strategy. Don't fall in love with sets or wait too long for them to appreciate from MSRP since "they are other fish in the sea). Happy investing and new year.

  37. One of the fears on this set is it rides completely on figure exclusivity. the Aqua man is back out again now in a brand new set, and the batman is available in scary quantities as a knock off from China. It seems to me that exclusive figures have weathered the iniital storm of Chinese knockoffs, but it remains to be seen if that will always be the case. If 50 of us are selling Arctic Batmans loose on ebay, and 1000 Chinese knockoffs are also in the search on ebay, it might hurt things. Yes you can tell the difference in hand, but if ebay allows them to be sold its hard to not get lost in the flood

  40. Cool, thanks. Maybe I'm not seeing it, but is there a "sell similar" item option? Creating a new listing is more time consuming than ebay because I have to retype the tags and info. I've been copying and pasting but that is also a hassle going back and forth between windows. I'm not complaining, if this is how it has to be that's how it goes, but when listing Super Heroes sets, for example, many tags would be the same. I'll send my pic.

I'm even weird about taking advil. All these big pharmacy companies do a risk reward estimate on possible risks. If they can make a billion dollars of of a pill regardless if it is safe or it it's coming to market one way or another. So what if they kill a few people.... They will pay out a few million to the families and still be profitable. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Brickpicker mobile app

  46. Hi Guys, Here's a MOD I did on 31026. Most talk about this set is it's size and lack of it. But it's actually quite versatile. I noticed that buying multiple copies of this set is one way to go on expanding it but I decided to work with one set and multiple pick-a-brick sessions. It was a fun process. I like this set and so does my kid, he just has a modular version of it now. Hope you guys like it.
