  2. Any Wise Investor would get a few of these, as it will shoot over $300 pretty fast once the word comes its done, and should be a $400-600 set. Ed

  3. Honestly, this set is a better investment than about 99% of the other current sets out there available at LEGO S@H. A person might not like it personally, but don't let that cloud your judgement of a wonderful set. As for STAR WARS vs LOTR argument...there is no winner, just two winners. They are the two of the coolest and classic franchises of all time. No need to diss either.

  6. Materials guide for LEGO selling & shipping Many members have asked for a centralized place where they can go for shipping box information. I'm going to pin this post and update it as new information is provided. I just want to take a few minutes and thank those who wrote the following articles. They are still very good reference materials for the LEGO storage and shipping process. I may develop this into a blog article eventually. For battle packs and even small sets, I sometimes use Wal-Mart, Target, or plastic bags from any store. Additional packing isn 't really needed. Usually like 2 bags on bottom, one to wrap the item, and two bags on top. Make sure to cover the corners of the item real nice to provide extra padding. 7. I hope Fred and the gang do not pull off my disguise the next time I am in the Lego shop trying to buy more R2s! "I would have gotten that last R2 on the shelf and another Research Institute if it weren't for you meddling kids!!!!"

  8. You got the quick overview. Stay tuned for the Mixels article I'm working on.

  9. Ran into a number of Series 1 at Target last night... was grabbing some milk for the kids and walked by the Lego area. Noticed the Mixels (a bunch of Series3) and for some reason I took a closer look and in the back there were a bunch of Series 1. Found 2x of 7of9 characters. So need 4 more to make two full sets. They were $4.99 as marked. Not into Mixels, but I knew Series 1 had sold out, so picked up those 14. Great... now this is going to make me want to search for the Series 2 as well....

  12. I'm sure a few have already seen the flyer for this weekend that has 40% off all MF sets (excluding HH, not that there are probably any anywhere in Canada). This is noteworthy because I noticed TRU must have divvied up some of their remaining MF stock and sent it out - my store was completely out of Ghost Trains, VCs and Crazy Scientists during Bricktober but now have a few of each of these big sets in stock on the shelf. Now that the TRU 'exclusive' nightmare appears to be coming to a close, it looks like they'll be blowing these out this weekend. I'd be shocked if they had any stock left after this weekend (moonlight madness, too, Christmas shoppers aplenty and 40% off even inflated TRU prices will probably be scooped up by investors/moms and dads alike) If you go Friday night you'll get almost another $5 back in airmiles for a $100 purchase. I went yesterday and the Windsor, ON location had 3 ghost trains, 1 crazy scientist and 3 VCs. I'll be adding these to my stock...total no brainer to sell next October/Nov/Dec.

  14. If you're stupid enough to invest all your money into Prince of Persia sets then you deserve to crash and burn. Whereas investing all your funds into a key exclusives like modulars, Campervans or Tumblers would almost guarantee excellent returns.

  16. Through some sort of a miracle, sneaked in order of 10 RIs at TRU. Got to "located in stock" for now, though I had cancellations from that stage before...

  17. I really feel like this one is about to crash, too... easily lost as it is amidst the plethora of more desirable, more unique, more exciting exclusives already jumping on the new retirement bandwagon. Is it truly as poor of a seller as it seems? Why? Perhaps because anyone interested in it to begin with already has two or six other X-wings of some sort, all much cheaper and paid for? Stickers, huh? PPP, you say? There was already a UCS X-wing? What is the real draw here, exactly? Assuming some sort of truth in that assumption, my big question is whether the lack of interest will carry over into the EOL years to come, making this a poor to average performer... or if it will translate into a massive supply/demand imbalance due to the corresponding rarity of the set on the secondary market. A potential UCS TIE Fighter in the near future complicates predictions even more. It should raise demand for this set in its waning months (unless that time is now) and/or post EOL, . It would also demand shelf space, which conventional logic would dictate comes from the Ewoks. It might make more sense to try and sell this ship alongside a TIE... stretching its lifespan considerably. Or there might be no such idea at all. I have a hunch the Ewok Village is around a while, though, especially if 10188 finally bites the bullet soon. Episode VII and a new X-wing design? How quickly will Lego have to jump on that situation and what does it mean for this set? Honestly the way things are going now, they could have stopped producing it already and we might not know for a long time. It wouldn't surprise me if there are still a comparable number of R2's in B&M stores out there at this moment. With much more available capital I would prioritize this set pretty highly these days, knowing it could be a very high risk / high return venture.

  18. 10227 B-Wing for $225 on ebay. Had it for $230 and didn't get a sniff for about 3 weeks, relisted today at 225 and it sold about 4 hours. Who knows.

  22. I don't find any of the possible scenarios scary. Scenario 1: All other toy companies continue to make crappy bricks and sets, they're of little interest to collectors and no threat to LEGO. Scenario 2: Some other toy companies actually begin making quality bricks and sets, they're of huge threat to LEGO. #1: I keep doing what I'm doing. #2: I expand my business to buy from the other companies that start doing it right, too, to take advantage of their sudden desirability in the market.

  23. I don't tend to raise prices, I just enjoy the increased sales at my normal prices. If I were going to increase them, it would be over Black Friday weekend and through December 15 -- that's when sales go crazy for us.

  24. It's also called the "alternative model". Technics sets are "two in one" (like creators sets -except the creator expert- are "three in one"). You have to download the instructions, unfortunately, because lego is too greedy to give you those. The b-model for the cargo is an hovercraft:

  30. toycrazechris, Amazon.ca (Canada) is totally different than the US site in terms of prices sometimes. Less sellers and higher prices. The buyer actually paid $120 + shipping for her RI, yeah I couldn't believe it...I listed it high as a marker for selling after holidays/longer term hold and figured if someone really wanted it they would pay for it. Some folks just prefer Amazon over eBay (which I assume is much cheaper for this set).

  31. Isn't amazing how we overlook sets until they are on the verge of extinction? I'm glad I have some ToO stashed away. If a LOTR fan discovers/rediscovers LEGO as an adult, this is the set he/she will have been looking for. Every set has pros/cons. I don't want one of the cons to be me caught with my pants down and having none in stock.

  38. I'm small time so not intended as a boast: Only sets I bought 2-3 yrs ago that haven't gone up are some alien conquest sets & a few x wings, all of which are still for sale on Amazon. Even the ninjago sets went up. My point: Unsafe to draw concrete conclusions from just a few yrs, but even a diversified portfolio of weak sets bought on sale has shown the ability to outpace msrp. So there's that...

  42. exactly. those buying these now are doing little rain dances to help make it go out of stock at all the major retailers and lord willing, at shop at home by Black Friday, early decemberish would be ok too. i'm slightly less enthusiastic given how enduring the stock appears to be but then it will dry up and things will be swell ala xmas advent this year. low gas prices and sold out new minecraft before xmas be a QFLL BFF. i'm holding 4 complete sets to make some 0.1%'er Grandma's Johnny boy happy. otherwise its into the garbage chute fly boy - back to target in january.

  43. I list mine a bit higher than I hope to sell them for leading into Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping. I do this well in advance to build up the number of watchers for my item. Then, the night before Thanksgiving I throw up a sale, send out promotional e-mails to my subscribers, and watch as 50% of my inventory sells out Thursday, Sunday and Monday. My sales tend to dip significantly on Black Friday since people are hitting the brick and mortar stores. If you hang on tight for that extra $10, you may find yourself stuck with the inventory. Christmas shoppers are highly impulsive so you want to attractive them first, provide competitive prices, then ship fast and follow through on the sale. I'm facing possible problems with too many sales to keep up with this Christmas (hopefully). I've started boxing everything now for a faster turn around. Don't forget there is less time between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year and you need time to ship.

  44. Fire brigade's for 119.00 on Amazon for an entire year was better then tb deal. Something I see posted here and talked about quite often is '' I got this set to diversify my portfolio '' I think that's kind of silly. Would you rather have 1 of all these random sets or have nothing but hh or ssd. I personally am really narrowing my picks down in regards to the long haul. Mark Cuban said diversifying a portfolio is stupid. And he rules.
