  4. Did my good deed for the season. Went by a couple of local TRU to check their stock on 75056. One was all out, the other had 1 hidden behind a Super Heroes sets. Saw a mother looking in the spot where the kept the calendars, she walked away. I picked it up, placed it on the shelf when I knew she was looking and walked away. Walked around the corner, turned around, and watched her quickly pick it up and rush to the counter. Hopefully me passing on this one, will translate to me selling my stock for profit.

  5. We get it. I really don't like when people make fun of Special "Ed" kids. Relax and move on...

  6. Craziest thing... my wife was just at the TRU looking for any 75056 left. She didn't see any at first, and then some weirdo dug one out from hiding at put it back on the shelf where it was supposed to be. She snapped it up, posted it on ebay, and flipped it for $65 before she left the store.

  8. Submitted an offer of $55 each for 8 9450's for $79.99 each (make offer) listing on Ebay and the seller accepted. Ended buying 8 of them for $55 each with free shipping. Didn't expect to get them at this price. But will part them out now.

  11. Yes, don't get upset if you miss a deal. There's always other deals and investments, and of course, other ways to spend your money.

  12. You can absolutely do deals like this outside eBay, but do not use the eBay messaging system to make them. Basically, if you have something listed on eBay and you or the buyer try to take that deal off eBay, that's a violation of the agreement you made with eBay (and, in my mind, totally tacky besides -- eBay found you that buyer for that deal, they deserve their cut.) HOWEVER, once you have sold something to an eBay customer, there's nothing wrong with you or that customer contacting each other OFF eBay (like using the email address you have for him thru PayPal) to make a separate deal that has nothing to do with an existing eBay listing. eBay may have introduced the two of you via the first deal, but that doesn't mean they own the both of you for all new deals going forward.

  13. Friends Summer Riding Camp for $150+shipping. I bought this using the 20% coupon during Bricktober getting my price down to about $70. Unfortunately it was the last one I could find around here. Now it's time to start listing my clearance Heartlake Stables and Vets.

  15. i would monitor latest eBay price endings for your set ... list it around that much ... maybe $5-$10 more if you want to ... but also check how many competition you have ...

  16. I am more worried about the bad reputation of the sticker's cockpit. Some buyers may be upset by this, and would be more inclined to pass this UCS (or may be ok to get one but not at a high price). Overall I would fear that it would arm the CAGR of new sets. I would even think that a used R5 in great condition (with box and instructions) with the sticker applied perfectly could be sold the same price as a MISB set. Because I'm really goofy, I would be ok with that (and maybe I'm not the only one).

  19. I agree to some extent depending on the commodity, but with a tangible product like we have, I like having some variety to keep turnover higher. Lower # of unique sets usually results in slower sellthrough.

  20. Fire brigade's for 119.00 on Amazon for an entire year was better then tb deal. Something I see posted here and talked about quite often is '' I got this set to diversify my portfolio '' I think that's kind of silly. Would you rather have 1 of all these random sets or have nothing but hh or ssd. I personally am really narrowing my picks down in regards to the long haul. Mark Cuban said diversifying a portfolio is stupid. And he rules.

  25. If this stays out of stock online much longer, especially this close to Christmas, the retail store stock will disappear quickly. Just wait until the pre-Thanksgiving sale when holiday set #2 comes out.

  26. I just finished pulling 9448 Samurai Mech out of a bulk lot and I was surprised by the complexity and quality of the build. It's a great little set that uses some very cool build techniques.

  27. I'm late coming to this discussion, but here's my thoughts.... Around here, there is not a boy between the age of 4 and 11 that doesn't know what Ninjago is and most of them love it. There's fun characters and a cool story line. In my most optimistic view, it's similarly to Transformers, in that they didn't have much adult or teen appeal until the kids who grew up with it got older. The appeal for me is that it's the only current theme that has elements of Asian architecture. I got into Ninjago for the Temple of Fire, Temple of Light, etc. Some of us like building temples and dojos as well as castles and batcaves.

  29. I don't tend to raise prices, I just enjoy the increased sales at my normal prices. If I were going to increase them, it would be over Black Friday weekend and through December 15 -- that's when sales go crazy for us.

  30. Pretty much same as exciter stated, just watch Amazon also and price a little under them accordingly if you're doing ebay. Examples being SW Advents are at $69 on Amazon so ebay is running about $59. Santa's Workshop is running $129 so about $110-115 on ebay. R2 D2 is $279 so ebay is running about $259. If you sell it instantly you are probably to low and if you don't sell it for a few days to a week you are to low. Just monitor it closely and adjust prices accordingly.

  31. Dumb**** post of the day. With that said its one of my favorite sets. But I'm biased towards fantasy in general. I don't think it will do gang busters in the after market. Invest in what everyone is and I'm sure you will feel better about yourself.

  32. newer to the game, but I list some stuff at what I want it to sell for regardless of how early it is. People can bid on my more affordable auctions/buy it now stuff and combine shipping for more expensive stuff. Or they can see your high price and follow the auction to see if you lower it later not a powerseller, but I'm doing ok for a noob

  33. I too value the variety of perspectives here. I find very few to be completely foolish (and therefore unworthy of response) even though I disagree with so much that is said. On the other hand, many points of view seem to confirm and/or slightly modify my own beliefs. I try to pay attention and process it all. Both condemning and blindly subscribing to others' (even remotely reasonable) ideas are equally ignorant actions. This forum (and especially a few select members and founders of it) are an incredible resource that provide us all with the opportunity to increase our "advantage portfolio" in this game. (Thank you all!) I'd just like to briefly comment on the "RETIRING SOON" tag, because I think many people currently misunderstand it (which is somewhat understandable): If you have the perspective that Lego investing should be fairly straightforward and easy (i.e. buy just before EOL, whether to short term flip or long term hold), you will clearly develop ill will toward the RETIRING SOON tag and possibly extend that attitude to TLG in general. Well, in case it isn't obvious, that tag is NOT A TOOL FOR RESELLERS. Why would they tag every set (especially our main focus, large exclusives) in a predictable, orderly fashion at a pre-determined point before actual EOL? Seriously, think about it. Why? There is nothing in it for TLG. When a set is selling well and it's time is about up, things are more or less going as planned. Why take action which would only play into the hands of resellers at the expense of the target consumer? While I am no Lego exec, it appears clear to me that is not part of the overall game plan. Perhaps the tag started out with such an intent, but clearly it has no such purpose now. Instead, the RETIRING SOON tag seems to be used on sets which are coming up on EOL and not selling as well as they had hoped... obviously to boost sales and help clear out stock (whether to the target consumer or otherwise). I'm no history buff, but I would be very interested to see the entire list of sets that have received the tag, along with their relative value from the time the tag was applied until now. I think it would be quite revealing. Anyway, once you lose the expectation that a RETIRING SOON tag can give you an investing advantage, clearly you can see that it is being used as a sales tool by TLG, can you not? Is it so surprising that their actions would be designed to benefit them, not us? So regardless of our opinion on what TLG thinks of reselling, perhaps we may find it easier to stop worrying about the RETIRING SOON tag and it's value (or lack thereof, at least for investing)...

  34. It's a big black blob, a boring build for the most part, doesn't look like much of anything until you're right up next to it & the figs are really quite lackluster, it's so small room by room there's very little playability... so of course it's gonna do really well! The ones I hate always do the best roi. if nothing else at least the Ent is excellent!

Received free last year with other purchases. Used/complete with box 6769 Fort Legoredo for $148 shipped. I bought it off my local Craig's two weeks ago for $25. I spent about $15 bricklinking a few missing pieces.

  42. I believe it was a limit of 5 still this past summer. It will be out 2 years come May 2015, so I wouldn't be surprised if it "retires" around then. The set always seems to be at the bottom of the list when you sort by "best selling" at places like Target and TRU, if those indicators mean anything.

  46. Hello fellow BrickPickers... Starting October 1, 2014, BrickPicker will be starting a BrickPicker Blog Group. In the past, we utilized blog contests to acquire new content. We would like to improve on that method and actually pay experienced and knowledgeable BrickPicker members to write new content for the site. The content will be similar to older blog articles and reviews, with a heavy emphasis on LEGO investing...but any quality LEGO topic can qualify. Qualified members will earn a $5 Gift Card to Amazon, LEGO S@H, etc... for every 1000 words/5000 characters in the content that is submitted and approved by Jeff and myself. There is a new application in the Wordpress blog editor that tracks this and the "readability" of the blog. It is one method that I will use to differentiate quality writing from poor writing and helps take photos and images out of the equation as well. I will talk more about this to approved blog writers. How does one become an approved blog writer? Several ways. Mods will have access to the group and will be able to post new content. Previous blog contest winners/runner ups are automatically qualified to be a blog writer. Jeff and I will invite some people who we think would be qualified to write content(if they are interested in doing so). Also, members can either produce content or show me previous work that indicates high literary ability. Approval is not guaranteed, but we will be honest and fair with any member that is interested in joining the group. We are trying to up the content bar. Jeff is working on a new homepage that will have a more interactive blog section to it. Some blog writers will have the ability to produce daily updates/content on the homepage that be front and center on the homepage. We want to produce "new" content, not just post links from other sites...and are willing to pay for it. If you are interested in joining this group and believe you are qualified, let me or Jeff know by PM. We will be sending out some invites to people over the next week or so. If you want to start writing, you can begin in the Wordpress blog editor. Please ask Jeff or I to enable your access to the Wordpress editor. There will be a private forum for blog writers and I will go over the new editor app and readability indexes with members. Also, Jeff will come up with a basic tracking system for blog writers that shows what they have produced and how much they earned. Any questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks...
