Here is what I replied "No" to... There will be 1000x the number of R2's, Town Halls and Haunted Houses on the after market. This was in reference to the 10179 Falcon. I know there was 20,000 First Edition 10179s made. So at the very least, there would have to be 20,000,000...or 20 MILLION R2's, Town Halls and HHs floating around in the storage facilities across the world for your statement to be true. Sorry, that is not reality. As for your other comments, what I make or why I stoke the flames is none of your business. I could easily keep the information to myself and let people fend for themselves. I have enabled thousands of people to take advantage of private information for FREE. They have gotten solid information from me on the Rover, RI, SSD, TH and now the 10225, all in the past 6 months. The site's costs have to get paid with something, so if Jeff or I ask people to click on a link, it costs you nothing, but helps keeps the site operational. I really don't understand your other points. Are you telling me that DOUBLING your money in ONE YEAR is a bad thing? I really don't know of many other investments that exhibit returns like that. Good luck with your future investments. I hear Hasbro will be making a remote controlled R2-D2 that beeps and lights up. Sounds like a solid investment.

No worries TG, SHAKE IT OFF, SHAKE IT OFF! I felt a tinge of desire to go running to buy more tumblers too somewhere along that circus talk. Bottom line is I don't think it is foolish to have a massive stack of tumblers growing in the old collection so when the coded message comes from nostradamack you can casually try to pick up a few instead of running around with my pants around my ankles to lego stores trying to scoop up R2s like a fool. Why my pants are around my ankles, I have no idea. I did manage to get 4 at 2 lego stores yesterday though, guess I'm lucky they aren't pushing the limit 1 exclusive thing.

In defense of panic buying: 1) It can be just as effective as buying over a longer period of time (at least in large citites like where I live). I've picked up twelve R2-D2s in the last 48 hours, and could get four more if the manager hadn't imposed a limit. Grrrr... 2) It's an efficient use of capital. Doubling your investment within 12 months creates a MUCH higher ROI (or CAGR or SCUBA or whatever) than doubling it in 36 months, which could be what happens if you buy a set at the beginning of its life. 3) It's fun! I've been having a blast calling Lego stores and zooming around buying the ones I find. I'm not desperate to do so, but hunting for a few extra R2s is like a scavenger hunt. Wheeeee!

It is like advising folks who mostly shop at Newman Marcus to comparison shop at Ross. We know that Amazon is just a facade - they, not quite... I think people took my answer to Cross as the Tumbler retiring early. He asked if there was one set to invest heavily in right now, what set would it be? I said the Tumbler. Whether it retires in 6 months or 3 years, it is a great set and it is hard to acquire, so I said to start now because you can never have too many of these sets.

They need to do a refresh. SSD colliding with Town Hall SSD colliding with Research Institute...

Take a breath here. I said there will be a lot of cryptic messages over the next 6 months. This set might have some life left in it, but I would strongly suggest if you don't have one, now is the time to start collecting them. Once the movies are over, you know all of these LOTR sets will be slowly vanishing. Also, there might be a certain amount of inventory that was planned to last until June, but once people start sniffing retirement, it will never last.

Everyone has the right to sell at their own price point... It just amazes me that some people are willing to work so hard for $5-10 when it should be clear there is money being left on the table.

How could it last until next year? Everyone keeps saying the license is two years so it must be so.

This set is a solid seller already. Hard to keep it in stock and its early November. Would advise anyone that has stores left with these to stock what you can. Pulling $120 paired with 40106. Could easily see the combo hit $150 as it gets deeper into the season.

No. Lego, real actual Lego, sells very well in China. Even right alongside the counterfeits. Where do you think I've sold my Tumblers?! TLG is well aware of the counterfeiters. Their legal team is actively pursuing legal action in China (which they summed up by saying basically: lol, good luck to us!). They have been to the trade city in Yiwu and seen all the knockoff offerings first hand and are doing their best (lol, good luck) to get rid of the blatant copiers.

It seems entirely reasonable to me. It is a policy that can be easily abused because it depends primarily on the honesty of the consumer. After all, there are very few situations like the R2 set where the item is damaged during shipping and is (presumably) at the end of its lifespan and could not be returned for a replacement. Therefore, if you are the retailer and you have a customer who is constantly calling in and demanding a discount because of shipping damage, you have to ask yourself how credible those claims of damage are because if the customer was really concerned about the damage, why wouldn't they just return items for replacements instead of constantly demanding discounts? Could Amazon handle such situations differently? Absolutely, but I don't fault them for adopting this kind of policy.

Though I hate returns at stores because one made a bad decision on an investment I strongly support sending oysters back when not packaged properly. Only way they learn. Though i love oysters and are a great for of iron and a test booster packages was the correct word. Worst typo ever.

Then you just made it harder to find for those that want to buy & build. I hope you know the above offer was just a joke... I'm normally not a buy-to-flip "investor" aside from occasionally buying on Kijiji and reselling locally or on eBay for a higher value. I did that with 12lbs of Bionicle... bought it for $25 in August, sold it for $125 locally a couple days ago. BUT my take on these RIs is that 2.5x to 3x initial cost is a good enough return over 2-3 months to unload a bunch and move on. I've sold 10 so far, plan on unloading 7 more and keeping what I've got left (my little secret) for the future. Oh and I have 1 for us which is the only Ideas/Cuuso set we cracked open and built to date.

I don't like selling items that are hard to find just to make a buck. I have plenty of items I can sell that are retired if I need cash. So if I do sell them, I will try to make sure they go to homes which will build them

Customer Care Lego confirmed me that 10225 is EOL (by mail and by phone) The email: "Unfortunately , the set 10225 is sold out and will no longer be put into production. We are very sorry ... it was a product in great demand."

Some Walmarts and most Toys R Us' carry polybags just as well and typical pricing is $3.99 with highest I have seen is $4.99 like Brickcrazyhouse stated.

I apologize, yes the Walmart store. Walmart has 4 general inventory statuses, Active - can be manually or system ordered, has a home on the shelf. Deleted - can not be ordered, fill space with other product when sells through Non Replenish - Can not be ordered at store level, 1 step away from deleted. Currently Olivia's House has this status. Not Traded - store specific, for example one store may carry the GE the other may not be traded for it so it doesn't.

The double decker couch owns them all. Would love a UCS:DDC. Or, Chewy riding on Rosebud from Citizen Kane.

Who cares if the kids like this set? Do kids fly a $3000 10179 around a room? They aren't the ones dishing out $$800-1000 for one in the future.

It's everything combined together plus the personal intuition. It's like EVERY investment in the economy. There are no obvious signs, everything carries a risk. Without risk there would be no yields. The profit you realise is the risk premium. The observation of stock (physical) fluctuations is similar to the technical analysis done with stocks (securities). It just tells you probabilities with measurement errors and some bias. Why do you think insider trading is forbidden after all?

One more graph for fun. I'm looking for patterns. This is a graph of the age of all Exclusives since 2007, excluding the following: - All Star Wars (since I think they have a separate release schedule than the rest of the themes). - All Factory - All Seasonal (Winter Village) What I like about this graph is it shows a relatively steady rate of exclusives being introduced, and it helps pop out which ones are getting old and which ones may be retiring prematurely.
