Here's some quick pictures, it's a work in progress. A mixture of our own stuff with Lego models because, frankly, I'm not very good at doing my own thing.

I had a great time creating both a Unikitty and a Benny the spaceman costume for Halloween this year! I got to wear my Benny costume at work and a party at our house that evening. I have two slightly damaged GEs (one has crease and one has box image tear on front) that I am planning on returning to WM. I'm offering them up to BPers (for purchase) prior to doing so. I will ship and the cost to you will be my cost + shipping. Ideally I would prefer these go to BPers that have been unable to acquire one yet. If you are interested PM me. These sets have special mystical powers so they are more expensive.

So here is the list with every individual list aggregated. For those ranking them in order I assigned a scoring system of the #1 set getting 10 points, the #2 set getting 9 points and so on. For those listing in no particular order each set got 5 points. Here's the results: No surprises at the top and I'd have to say the combined top 10 is a pretty good representation of sets that should be considered 'iconic'.

rebuild...? huh? you mean you guys aren't supergluing them together? when i get done i spray paint them orange and sell them for large sums of money on ebay as prototypes.

I have both the DS and EV on display in my house and when guests come by the first thing they all go look at is the EV - I've gotten many more compliments on it than any other displayed SW set I own. EDIT: random side note: George Lucas' daughter Amanda and I were on the same little league team as kids sometime between 1988-1991 and he used to come watch our baseball games.

Generally, I listen to my wife complain after my son and I finish building something. He leaves them all over the house and they accumulate fast.

I dunno. I like the sets. I like the colors. I'm a geek dad to a 6 year old daughter. She likes Friends, she likes non-Friends Lego, too. This is a gateway into "fantasy" worlds. I have no idea if it will be an investment winner. It might be a parting out winner. But, I know I willing be buying. Maybe there are others that think like me.

Craigslist sale. Four new sets to one buyer. A-Wing, MHC, Desert Skiff, and City Park Cafe for $150. No eBay, paypal, or shipping fees, so I cleared just over $80 profit. The customer was an older couple buying Christmas gifts for their grand kids, and mentioned they might be looking for more for birthday gifts. I wish all Craig's deals went this smoothly.

I blame Brickpicker for encouraging me in spending more money on Lego than any other novelty ....and I haven't been happier. Who needs such frivolities to waste time and cash on like beer to 'get high' when there is another set in the closet waiting to be built? So many bricks, so little time.

If the buy in is right, this set should do well after eol. It's only been out a little over a year though, do I'd be surprised if it retired any time soon. A lot of little girls like to "play school", and this set lets them do that. My seven year old daughter has this set, and plays with it all the time. Heck, even my eight year old son plays with it too, but he usually just attacks it with his AT-AT.

What you're forgetting is that retail organizations (and large businesses in general) completely over-react to minor things. Your numbers make sense, and work on logic. A lot of businesses don't always do that. Also, let's not forget the point of the promotion was to move $75 worth of OTHER LEGO SETS. It clearly goes against the spirit of the promo itself to buy the sets to get a free set, and unless every TRU manager is dumb, they are going to take notice. General employees may take notice. Other customers may take notice. There's something to be said for keeping a low profile. They literally need to get one old fashioned complaint letter to get wheels moving. Or they look at their own numbers and see something is up. I know we all want to say that retailers (TRU in particular) are really dumb, but obviously they have some people doing their homework there, and that homework gets easier and easier with all the analytics and instant access to information. The following retail changes have occured in the last 12 months alone, and this is a partial list: 1. Walmart has stopped their 50% off LEGO After Christmas clearance. 2. K-Mart.com no longer accepts (Many) coupons for LEGO. 3. Barnes and Noble coupons exclude LEGO. 4. Target.com has begun pricing their hard to find/retiring soon LEGO sets at higher than MSRP regularly. 5. TRU (most of them) have stopped selling their PROMO items separately, and are actually getting corporate orders to NOT sell them. 6. TRU Coupons (some of them) are starting to exclude LEGO. I know I am not going to change anyone's behaviors, there are some folks who are short sighted and frankly don't care about "the future" of LEGO Investing, they want to get as much money as they can right now. I am not claiming you are like that, but there are lots of folks who are. Some on this site, many others who don't bother. But to deny that the impact of increased LEGO reselling visibility/reseller actions helped bring about these changes is really silly. I am not trying to take any sort of high road here or call anyone out, I am just pointing out that there is a cause/effect relationship between resellers and retailer policies. I am not one of those sky is falling sorts, but anyone who wants to do this long term should think about their actions and encourage others to think as well. Lots of people have pointed out increased competition/lower prices, harder to find deals, etc etc. It's not going to get any easier from here. And we certainly can't be surprised when retailers adjust.

In the early days, it caused me to spend a lot of money. These days, it causes me to spend a lot of money, but a little wiser now.

Whenever I sell anything on eBay I always do an auction with a buy it now. Since it's so easy to check the sold prices of something, it's rare that you'd accidentally place something at too low a price.

It doesn't even say they will definitely make more of them. I see this as more of an explanation to stop people from calling customer service about an out of stock item

It depends on my buy in and the set's current availability. The MHC I sold for $40 (retail is $50 plus tax) because I bought them from target for $16 and they are still available. The desert skiff i also sold for $40, which is above retail, but is no longer found in stores, at least in my area. I bought those for $15 from shopko clearance. The A-Wing I priced at $25 (paid $15), and the city park cafe I sold for $45 (paid $22 shopko clearance). The fact that there are no selling or shipping fees on Craig's also factors in, and enables you to go a little lower than the going rate on eBay if you choose to.

This is a swell set with a handful of rare colored parts like the dark blue ones especially these slopes and the modularity of the estate is kind of brilliant actually. Now what does that mean per investment? ....I have no idea. I just wanted to say that. :P

$60 shipped. Not much profit, but they have largely stagnated after an initial gain after they disappeared.

My last CL sale was similar, a grandpa buying for his grandson and the kid was there picking out what he wanted. Went better than I expected as he let the kid pick out 2 sets and 2 polys. Also sold 2 Orc Forges tonight. Had a 3rd sold yesterday but buyer cancelled.

Stupid me, I had several opportunities to get these City sets at deep discounts and only bought a couple full sets. I wish I had 10 more of each now. All for $225 City: Space Moon Buggy (3365) City: Satellite Launch Pad (3366) City: Space Shuttle (3367) City: Space Centre (3368) I also sold two of the four Ultimate Brick Boxes (6166) I picked up yesterday for $95 each.

I love the Ewok Village set, though I really dislike the price. I think it will be a good performer in the long run because it has been largely ignored thus far and Bricklinking it will never be much of a viable option; it's got too many minifigs and odd pieces. The disdain people have for the set and the price point reminds me of the Town Hall. I wouldn't go all in on this one, especially since it is likely to be around for a while, but I don't think you would go wrong with having a few. Tough to buy right now though because there are just so many other sets currently in flux that are more worthwhile to invest in.

I know he ships it to my local Intertoys store, where he picks it up tomorrow with a lorry (according to the manager). He's a little bit dumb he didn't order them last week, because then he could save (with the family and friends 15% discount evening) 24*(180*0.15) = 648 euro.. just by paying a little bit attention to local deals here. Let's set up a roadblock tomorrow and rob him / her :-P

Went to a local Target to get some household stuff, found an aisle with a few Series 12 minifigures. Bought a few, asked the guy if they had more. He brought out a new box and I took the box, still sealed. Went to the register and the box scanned at $2.99 - for the entire box of 60. Oh, and the box had 59 bags in it, not 60 - called Lego and they box these things by hand....interesting.

This place has given me a positive sense of community regarding all things Lego. I confess, I really didn`t know very much about how to go about investing in anything plastic, other than just to spend money on things I liked (I`d been a collector/builder for many years prior to joining here). I read a news article on the site, it peaked my curiosity, and instantly I was hooked. Have been ever since. Such a fantastic place, thanks to Jeff, Ed, and every member here for continuing to grow and expand this awesome site!

While it's nice to see this set appreciating quickly, I am unloading all of mine this Christmas. Themes like chima and ninjago are only popular when the kids are into them. Ninjago has all but disappeared with the increasing popularity of chima, and chima will do the same thing once the next hot thing comes along. I plan on using the quick profits from this set on safer investments.
