  2. One more graph for fun. I'm looking for patterns. This is a graph of the age of all Exclusives since 2007, excluding the following: - All Star Wars (since I think they have a separate release schedule than the rest of the themes). - All Factory - All Seasonal (Winter Village) What I like about this graph is it shows a relatively steady rate of exclusives being introduced, and it helps pop out which ones are getting old and which ones may be retiring prematurely.

  3. Hey Guys! So a couple months ago i started the long painful process of brickbuilding the 10179. I had many of the parts already from having a very large collection of light gray pieces, and i had been starting to really see the imperfections and scale issues with my 7965 Falcon on display (granted it's not a display model by any means, but it was better than spending thousands for the 10179). 7965 was also the set that brought me out of the dark ages. After trying for month to get a used one on CL or Kijiji, i caved and decided to start. Once finished i realized it was much larger than i thought, and had trouble finding a spot to display it. When i finally did find a spot to display it flat; it really didn't seem to do it justice and i began researching other ways to go about displaying it. Typically i'd use 2x4 clear bricks to prop ships up into more interesting angles, but 10179 would just be too heavy for that. Sure enough there were a couple search results of people mounting it on the wall, and one specifically on YouTube that had it mounted in a way that gave it mobility by using a TV wall mount. I decided this is what i was going to go for vs. a static mount as it allowed it to move into many angles, and the user had a YouTube video with great images of what i'd have to do. This took a good few weeks to complete as there were countless issues that arose. The YouTube video does not give exact details, and finding similar/like parts he used wasn't possible. In the end my mount construction resembles his, but is certainly a bit different. While the 10179 has a very strong inner frame; there are many parts i had to reinforce with more technic liftarms and even rubber bands (i'm looking at you rear underside section). I do believe i was able to find close to the exact same mount he used, but my brackets and the LEGO part of it have been constructed differently. I also added an RGB strip to the back engines to add some flare And no it has not fallen yet haha, but i do check it every so often to see if anything is bending/giving. The first night of it being up i was dreaded of being woken up by a terrifying crash I intend to paint the LED power cord the same colour as the wall to hide it. Anyways i thought some of you might be interested in seeing it. I think this really does the model justice (or at least saves some space!). ** Edit: forum upgrade seems to have lost the pictures... go to this post for new ones. **

  9. Sold a 50+ set lot. I'm hoping the sets fit in two 26x26x26 boxes. It wasn't so much about the profit on this sale. I wanted to free up space and funds for my recent TH and HH purchases. All the sets and polybags avg $34 cost. I sold for about $44 plus postage.

  11. 10226 SC is back in stock...'limited quantities' With import fees (from the Global Shipping Program) + shipping I think the cheapest to get in Canada is around $200 USD (except for that seller in Hungary) so getting them at MSRP seems like a slam dunk. No guarantee they'll actually ship, but I just ordered two and hopefully they ship well (or at all)

  13. Smart companies always think ahead... usually years ahead. I highly doubt LEGO ever has the "OMG we sold 10x TH last month, we better fire up the TH machine tomorrow and make more" discussion. They're a smart, privately held company and don't have to bow to shareholder pressure (Apple's real problem, imho, coupled with the need to be on the leading edge--that's a lot of pressure). LEGO is smart, and they hold the cards. They know more about their global sales and what works/doesn't than any one of us--or, likely, all of us collectively.

  14. When it comes to people saying a set will or won't be a winner I'm a bit confused. It depends on your buy in. I have x wings.... I paid 20.00 for mine. No way I can lose. Any see can be a winner. What might make me a ton of money may not for you as everyone's buy in is different.

  15. re: Five armies amazon "deal". after 20 minutes of back and forth with amazon chat CS, I finally got 2 5 armies for $15.99 each. what broke the camel's back was the links showing the incorrect 5 armies link (original order), the new 5 armies link (with the regular price), and then my invoice showing that I ordered 5 armies. had me re-order the 5 armies using the "correct" 59.99 link - sent the new order # through chat and then got the new order price reduced to the original price - YAAAAY!!!!! winning!

  17. Don't normally post what I sell, but this morning sold a lot of 10 HP The Lab 30111 polybags for $85 and free shipping. Very happy about this purchase. Bought them for $1.10 each over a year ago. Saved quite a bit on shipping too, since they all went to the same person!

  19. My 7 month old daughter built her first Lego set 10553 and she developped a taste for it. Her review was, plenty of nice colored pieces. The little bear is most easy to chew on and the window boxed is most useful to poke mommy's eye out. Brilliant set imo.

  25. Doesn't hurt to vote - it might show TLG that there is significant interest in the line & they may devote more effort into it's initial release, rather than a few ho-hum market testing sets. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear...

  26. Because they are smart and see that another potential worldwide recession is a possibility. Maybe selling lower to mid priced sets is the way to go at the moment. This was not the idea I am hinting at but I wanted to respond to this particular point.

  28. Our neighborhood, I kid you not, is like in ET - there are tons of kids. You can't drive down the road, because it's so busy. There are some houses where you can go through 4 bags of Costco candy, and still no make it past 7pm. It's nuts. There aren't really any subdivisions near us. It's at least 15 minutes (or more) in any direction. So kids are literally bussed into our neighborhood. Dropoffs begin about 5 PM, and things go until 9 PM. And that's just on a regular night. This year, with it being Friday, we're thinking it's going to be huge. We live in a cul-de-sac, so we're roping it off, and all of us neighbors are planning a big potlock and drink fest after the kids go to bed. Should be a good time.

  30. How crazy would it be if Lego retired 10 exclusives then followed that up by lifting their no discounts on exclusives policy in January? That would be some chaos followed by some wicked sweet deals.

  31. yeah, instead of using air packing pillows or paper for the 10221, amazon is using two 10228s for protection.

  32. I wonder what 6212 sold for at Christmas 2011, when it had been discontinued and 9493 hadn't been introduced yet? I also wonder how many "slots" in the product line up TLG wants to use for episode 7? 9493 isn't going to be a 5x set, but it might be a nice flip sometime soon.

  37. I built a website for my personal fun that was initially created to find pricing mistakes. I obtained a Product Advertising API from amazon to ping their servers for pricing and in/out of stock information. This runs as a series of php cron scripts on a server and pushes its data to a SQL DB. It took a few weeks of free time to set up. My entered over 500 Lego sets to monitor and it does the job quite well of listing deals including lists of the present warehouse deals. But it was a lot of work and I would only recommend it to folks who have web development experience. Again, this was just a personal exercise and I don't plan to expand on it much since it takes a lot of effort. If I make any changes to it, it would be to make some sets have a super-high query rate for the hard-to-finds with email notification. If anyone is interested in it, you can PM me, but other than the amazon warehouse deal list, it doesn't really give you anymore info than some of the other sites including BP. I haven't actually used it much myself because the pricing errors haven't been as productive as finding hard-to-find sets. And on those, I've just been using the Chrome Page Monitor with Regex expressions on specific HTML tags or page text. I have to be in front of the computer, but since I work a desk job, that's not a problem for 8 hours a day. This has been, by far, the most useful for catching stuff and it didn't require much work at all. It would be nice to be notified when I'm not at the computer, but most of the time you guys would ****** it up before I could pull it up on my phone anyways :)

  40. Pretty much the same as Speedsausage. Either my order of SSD's when it came back into stock for a bit before going poof for good, or my order of HH's. One a backorder, and the other from the blip when they came back into stock after cancelling the backorders.

  41. Hi there! If you've not seen my thread about my own experiences with investing, take a look: http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/10456-my-one-way-transition-from-investor-to-seller/ It might save you some time and money. If I can find a way to sell locally without shipping and without ebay/paypal fees, then I think it might be worth all the effort.

  44. I hate when people send stuff with signature required. Yeah, hi. See I have this thing called a 'job'. That 'job' description does not include sitting on my a** all day at my house waiting for UPS to show up at whatever random time they are coming that day (anywhere from 8AM to 8PM is my local UPS deliveries).

  46. Well I did it... I sold an SSD for $800 cash locally. My cost on "this one" was $430 (I'm doing FIFO out of my stash) so I feel pretty good. I would have had to sell it for approx $950 before shipping on eBay for the same return - I'm not a top rated seller. Pays for three of the snow tires I need for my new car!

  47. People need to get their priorities straight! Buying LEGO products does serve but one use: Reselling them later! Also they should stop buying other stuff just because they might enjoy it and be happy... I mean what nonsense is that? Spending money on things?! You should keep that money and hoard it. And one day when you're 90 years old sitting in that dark empty space you call home you'll at least have a lot of money to keep you company and boy all those happy memories you can share with it, like that one time when you didn't open a LEGO set that you really wanted to build but sold it for some more money.

  50. The 50th Anniversary UCS Millennium Falcon First Edition is the pinnacle of all collectible LEGO sets. There cannot be another made. How about a 60th Anniversary? Not quite. Maybe 75 or 100 years. Point is, the 10179 is more than just a large set. It is an 50th Anniversary set, just like the Town Plan. So whether or not another watered down version is made, it will not be as good as the original and not as valuable and wanted. As for the new UCS X-Wing, I'm disappointed in the set. While I do have a MISB 7191, that is not what bothers me. What bothers me is the overall lack of creativity...almost a laziness...in this design. They could have easily made this set an "iconic" set. Maybe a 3000 or more piece set that was a good deal larger and more detailed than the first version. There is NO BIGGER FAN of STAR WARS UCS sets than me and I really like each one, but this could have been a great set, just not a simple remake. I can list 30 different UCS sets they could have done, but this is another money maker for LEGO and that is the bottom line.
