I just wrapped up another Hobbit set. My favorite part of this set is that two sections of the castle explode.

Based on the writing style, Trekgate is being assimilated to the emazers collective.

Better believe it. 28 unnumbered bags with bags inside of those bags...still I would not trade the experience for anything. IF you build it(and I recommend you do) separate all the pieces by color as well as flat vs regular pieces. Also build both towers simultaneously. It will help out as well as looks pretty cool as you slowely complete the project. Also do this when you are done (add a bat signal as well!)

Target 2x Town Hall order arrived today. Expecting the factory LEGO box and seeing an oversized Target box with collapsed sides was disappointing. I open the box, remove a TH, very minor damage to the top, not bad, then what the hell is that? It's a Tower Bridge. I suppose I should be happy getting a set worth $40 more, but that set was never on my radar.

This is a tough consideration still because that 5% is all profit in reality. Its not affected by COGS (other than offering the returns). Last year my fees were about 3500$ for all of November, dec, Jan. 5% of that is $175... ... ... Lol I can't say any of this with a straight face. No way in hell I am doing extended returns.

"Chaos", Town Hall retiring out or order, "Big changes for some"... Maybe LEGO has just decided to retire their products in an unpredictable order. The modulars somehow are/were a symbol for retiring in order - what came first, went first and nothing newer before the older ones. TH is the first modular to break with that rule. And so maybe LEGO is going to apply the "chaotic retirement" rule to its whole line of exclusives. Why? One main reason could be to scare off resellers who were able to buy close to EOL because retirements dates were predictable enough to wait until the end - resulting in mass buying and other logistically inconvenient events for LEGO. "Some", in Eds words, could be the ones who only stocked up close to EOL. The others would then be those who started buying early enough to never be caught without any of the set(s) they wanted. The consequence for LEGO would be that the buying will be more balanced over the entire line of sets - not primarily the older ones. The biggest effect of this might be that all the small time investors with very limited storing space will turn away from investing because they never know when their stock will start to gain value. The big players with sufficient money and space will stay where they are. I guess this is just a first strategy LEGO applies, if this doesnt work they will come up with something else. But it will not be re-releasing sets. This woul be totally against their policy of keeping their portfolio fresh.

Well, I can conclude for myself 2 possible scenarios: 1. The complete modular line will vanish or 2. Modulars are coming back, pain in the ass for investors. Or we will live and invest in the golden age of Lego, or we get screwed :-P

Lego hunting is so much fun, even when I miss the deals by minutes. So exciting. Congrats to those who got in on the deals, but I'm hoping that next time I get lucky too

after weeks of almost fruitless hunting (got one from walmart on sat - delayed) i was able to get.... 10. was going for 5 more but got chase fraud flagged, those bastards. we shall see if they ship. EDIT: called chase on the way to lunch and tore 'em a new one, slightly relieved

I think that the sheer number of other large/exclusive sets being released changes things up big time. With several lines getting big sets there is limited shelf space, and the modular series may be coming to an end (nothing lasts forever, and we both know hearts can change...and November is just around the corner). Another key to my line of thinking is not only is there the Creator Bike Shop 3 in 1, but the next creator wave also has a similar set (although smaller, probably to boost sales)...it is the Toy Shop if memory serves correctly. Seems crazy to offer lower price point modular-type sets as well as rolling out larger ones, too. That and having a huge line of modulars really makes it tough for TLG to roll out creative new big sets. Maybe the success/demand of the Tumbler is telling them that it is time to change things up. That an it seems a slam dunk that the new SW films are going to result in plenty of focus/new/big sets...only so much shelf space, production capacity, etc. Bottom line, I'm not waiting forever to start adding to my modulars...I'm getting a couple more with double VIP

At first, I was thinking Town Hall was retiring for a few reasons already stated: price point made it the slow seller of the group, too much shelf space, etc. Then I started to think about production costs, part number reduction, etc: according to Brickset, Town hall has several "rare" bricks... part numbers used only in Town Hall, or used in only a few other sets (many of which are already retired, or who's days are numbered). If they dropped the Town Hall, they could drop quite a few part numbers. Looking at part numbers shared with less than 3 other sets, I found: 6000644 shared only with Arkham Asylum 6022319 shared only with Santa

Maybe LEGO noticed that having too many large exclusives on the shelves ain't no good for them because they are not selling. Honestly before I've invested into LEGO I always looked at them like:"yeah those are nice but hell I neither have the money for them nor the space". Now I feel the same way about them but I still bought them... feeling a little bit sad that I don't have the space to build them all ^.^ As long as it's somewhere in a store the temptation is just way smaller I guess ***** So I wouldn't be surprised if they'd produce less big exclusives. On the other hand LEGO (like all big enterprises) is trying to expand. Whatever helps them doing that will be their choice. If they reduce large exclusives now, they might at any point of time decide to bring out more again... As for the HE, I don't see it being retired (sold out) before the end of this year/ beginning of 2015. Why? Because there still are lots of them in the stores and I have the feeling that those bad nasty people who are responsible for the vanishing of HH, GE, TH, SSD, etc. decided to invest in those sets and don't have money or are not yet interested enough to invest into HE. (That's why I think it will stay some longer... it highly depends on the investors though... if I had to decide which set to buy right now with about 100

This could well be it. It wouldn't really surprise me to be honest. Could you imagine the hype a whole new line of big AFOL orientated sets would garner? Sales of the first set in that line could be huge.

I'd say the point of "complete modulars" collection applies to less and less people as time goes by. I mean how many people could ever complete their collection buying all - a CC, MS AND a GG? So, I think what more and more collectors will say is: "Well, I could'nt get Cafe Corner or Green Grocer, so, I doesn't matter if I get Town Hall either, because in the end it is ugly anway - I'll go buy a nice GE." The percentage of NEW collectors starting now who will be able (or financially willing) to get a complete collection is close to zero. So for me the "complete collection" argument is not valid anymore. You also have to take into consideration that people want to feel good after buying, they like to be "proud" of what they spent (much) money for. Cafe Corner might be "ugly" too, but it IS a LEGEND. People buying it can be proud of owning the legedary CC - so they will invest that much money. As for TH - it is NOT a legend by any means and there is not a big chance it will be one some day - meaning it will solely remain scarce but unappealing. In my opinion what counts more of today is what modulars look like beacuse NONE of them will get to that legendary status of CC, MS or GG anymore.

Well.. Cafe Corner was also regarded ugly, but in the end collectors do want the complete modular line. What is a (modular) city without a TH? Think it will be a very desirable set in the future. Think people don't have this feeling with UCS models, that they want to collect them all. But that's just my opinion.

FWIW I called LEGO Shop at Home ES a few minutes ago and was told that the TH had a 'Coming Soon' status, which they translated into 'it should come back and be available until end of 2014', altough they did not say a specific date. GE did not have this status. This should go into the 'What I heard from a Lego employee today' thread, but opted to post it here.

Did your buyer use paypal? If so check the shipping address in paypal as that may be the correct one. We always match the ebay shipping address against the paypal shipping address and call the customer if there is a discrepancy. The cryptic ebay name and zero feedback suggest this was a guest checkout. Personally I would call the customer and let them know what is going on. I would also reship the item for free if the customer still wants it. Eating $15 in shipping may lead to many hundreds in profits down the line. You cannot go wrong providing superior customer service.
