  1. So far so good with my experiment. Here is what I've ordered so far. Each order has come with the free elves workshop promo set, in addition to the free hot dog cart with the fairground mixers and free poster with tower of orthanc, as well as the double VIP points. Every order has gone straight to processing and then shipped status (no customer service status). The pet shops went to back ordered status at first but have since shipped. 10/1 Santa workshop / ecto 1 10/2 pet shop 10/3 palace cinema 10/4 fairground mixer 10/5 Mini Cooper 10/6 tower of orthanc 10/7 Santa workshop / ecto 1 10/8 pet shop 10/9 palace cinema 10/10 fairground mixer 10/11 Mini Cooper 10/12 tower of orthanc 10/13 Santa workshop / ecto 1 10/14 pet shop I plan on continuing the same rotation through the rest of the month, except I will swap out the fairground mixer and tower of orthanc with camper vans, arkhams, and R2D2. I only wanted two mixers and orthancs. Total promos earned so far = 14 elves workshops, 2 hot dog carts, 2 lotr posters, and $170 worth of VIP points. Once November hits I will spend the points on ewok villages to get those at a reduced price.

  4. i agree. with any investment, it's all about speculation since we don't have insider info. luck also helps i'm stepping onto my soapbox now. while lego sometimes indirectly drops hints (e.g. sets keeping selling out, set is getting long in the tooth, sets that like to be replacements are released, buying limits per order, etc...), it is still mainly speculation and luck. i assume sometimes we need to go with our gut feeling. as some of us (at least me) are both AFOLs and collectors , i like to think those people have a grasp on what sets will be popular after retirement. my honest opinion, it's not rocket science and people shouldn't depend on the same repeated posts about what sets should be bought. if i think a set is totally cool after building it, i'm buying it since others will probably feel the same way after missing out on it. that is why people jumped all over 10226 SC, 10221 SSD, 10228 HH, 10197 FB and even sets back in the mid-late 2000s like 10179 MF, 10196 GC, 10181 EF and the first 2 modular blgs to name some. To me, they were totally awesome builds and looked cool on display 10224 fits into my thought process. bottom line is to not wait too long in buying sets you think are cool.

  6. You will increase your odds of getting one greatly by setting up one-click. Then it never has to go in the cart. You see the $179 price on the main product page, hot the one-click button, and BAM! it's yours. If it disappears before hitting the one-click, then hit F5 on the resulting page until another one pops into the system and it goes through. I only use a page monitor to notify when items start to pop in stock. Then I refresh the product page until the amazon price shows up. Then one click and F5 to purchase. With this method, I've never missed buying my limit of 2 when an item showed up while I was in front of the monitoring PC. When I post here, I have usually already bought my limit but I keep watching it to see how long it stays on stock. In this case, it was ony showing in the other sellers list (since it has a 1 to 2 day delay) but did show up on the main product page for a little while. There were evidently a few available as I had to disable my page monitor because it kept going off. Anyone who has been following my amazon purchasing method could have gotten their two over about a ten-minute window they were there.

  7. HH in stock @ Amazon! <and OOS already...sorry, probably happens so fast these days not worth posting it>

  8. 1,000 posts later, and all we know for sure is - LEGO investors have way too much time on their hands.

  10. Another set of Mixels Series 1 for $110, and two more RIs for $70 each. I'm OOS on RIs. Decided I was happy with the ROI, and since more were appearing in store this week, I wanted to get some money out of them before a flood of new product showed up. If I screwed up, oh well. I missed the boat a little while ago when they were going for $90. Might as well be happy with grossing 4x what I paid for them.

  18. When you check LEGO Shop at Home, and search for creator sets, the GE and the TH are not listed anymore with the others modulars. I didn't realized that before today so I can't tell when it happened (today ? or 10 months ago ?). They still are in the "creator" section (Lego > Themes > Creator > ...), but the website's browser just can't find them. They only appear with the "Hard to find" and "Exclusive" sets, along with the others modulars and Tower of O., Ewok village, Tumbler, etc. (the pet shop is OoS up to October 30th but still appears in the creator sets listing with the other modulars)

  21. Stay with me here... I am thinking this all is related... Totally guessing...Ebay is TRYING to get acquired by Alibaba. In my conspiracy theory laden mind it all fits together perfectly. Charles Icanh knows Alibaba is going public a long time ago....along with the rest of us...he also knows that BABA will be infused with 20 plus billion dollars in cash with the intent to spend and expand in the US market. WHo would the perfect fit be to help Alibaba get a toehold in the US market....Ebay!!! He also knows that BABA has Alipay and therefore looks at Paypal as useless. So acting as an activist investor he presses Ebay management to spin off Payal (This is well documented.) So being the business man he is, he spins off the fastest most profitable portion of the company which all Ebay share holders will be compensated for...Paypal. While at the same time making ebay more appealing to the target buyer, BABA. (I am sure he will get a piece of paypal when it spins off.) Now he has two assets, one growing quickly, one growing but not at the pace the market would expect. Sell the one slower growing asset to a company who is looking to grab a toe hold in the American market...keep the other, Paypal, and ride the wave of grow. Baba is happy they get a toe hold in our market, Ebay is happy, they are now part of one of the largest companies on the face of the planet, investors are happy b/c they get PAID...sellers get screwed. This might also be one of the reasons ebay hasn't come down very hard on these chinese sellers, many of them are BABA sellers too and it would make for an easier transition if you already have some similar sellers. All speculation of course, just sitting being a nerd...

  24. Ha, nice! They`re a great store for sure, been in a few locations across the country. Lots of selection, competitive prices, and just an overall great atmosphere. Puts stores like ToysRUs to shame, they are disgusting and dirty.

  25. using 1-click you are increasing your chances when availability is very short - less transactions are involved. note that 1-click gives you 30 min window to edit things like payment method and shipping/billing address

  28. I'm a fan of some of these displays. Specifically, this one: Is there upside in investing in one of these? What's it worth? Thanks!

  29. I think you hit the nail on the head. It is until you actually build a set, that you know what it is about. If you don't build Lego and just are an investor that keeps your boxes nice on the attic with fear to open one because you ruin a posible investment, you're unable to tell what is a hit or a miss. Numbers alone don't prove everything. And should Town Hall go in january, that would be a nice proof.

  31. I called my local lego store yesterday to see if they had TH. The guy said "yes we got one in but NO WE DO NOT SHIP IT!" I responded with I live very close I don't need it shipped and they put it on hold for me and I got it. Heh. Trekgate you been calling all the lego stores in the US trying to get them to ship you TH?

  32. Excellent point biniou US LEGO Shop at Home is the same. The Sopwith Camel also is missing from the themes but still present under Creator on the site. Looks like a triple slam dunk retirement.

  35. Great way to end the show would be to have them be on Alderaan, discussing how Obi-Wan Kenobi was arriving shortly with Bail Organa. Suddenly everything gets very dark and they see a gigantic death star roll into orbit. Then the green lasers fire up, screen goes black, end of series.

  39. So there goes my idea of buying a sprinter and traveling across the country buying LEGO and calling it "American Brickers". The show that follows expert Brickpickers as they scour the country's junkyards (Wal-Marts), basements (K-Marts) and barns (Craigslist) for hidden LEGO Gems.

  42. Even TRU sent one to me in a Lego shipping box. Thing is minty. Got it for $360 with new CC discount. Opened it up and checked the seals then taped it back up in the original box. Perfect way to store it too. When I sell it it will go out in this box. It will have spend 45 seconds in my hands total.
