  1. Most of you will know R2D2 from Star Wars and of course the LEGO Set might be on your list when it comes to investments. (I guess if some investors did actually build the sets they own they could build a small droid army ^.^ ) Since it's an awesome LEGO model I guess that a lot of you own one for yourselves as well. Doing most important research on the internet I found some nice R2D2 MOCs/Versions that I'd like to share with you all because I think they are awesome and add some spice to the normal model. Hope you enjoy them.

  3. While this is true with a lot of .ru sites, I'm pretty sure your computer (and mine) here in the US already have dozens of backdoors installed right from the factory, or even before that (at the computer chip factories), courtesy of the NSA, FBI, CIA, and China's equivalents,

  4. So...I can't be the only one who sees the hypocrisy in backing one petroleum based company, to protest another petroleum based company for the simple reason that they use petroleum. Then to realize that Greenpeace wouldn't truly exist without the use of said petroleum.

  5. Sure it is. Lego probably considers profits to some degree, but what matters most to them is when it is time for a set to go. That question is answered by The Schedule, which sits next to The Banhammer in an undisclosed location somewhere in the general vicinity of Area 51.

  6. The "flippers" are the vocal part of the community. The long term "investor" usually sits back, keeps quiet and watch the flippers freak out when these sets go in and out of stock. It's entertainment at its finest...

  7. Long term investing does not require talking. You just buy sets and sit on them, sometimes sell - why talk?. Would be world's most silent forum if not for flippers... And don't forget that there are plenty of folks here who do mix flipping with long term investing. And you are making $200 in 36 month, while QFLL folks are making $50x36=$1800 in same time period

  9. I must say that the multitude of Mini-Mazers out there is concerning. So many buyers, buying such high quantities of just a few select sets that don't really sell in very high quantities sounds like trouble.

  12. No, that's what little girls in product development focus groups told the guys in suits what they do like. Big toy companies aren't stupid. Executives don't just release toys randomly based on what they think kids will like; they spend millions studying kids and developing toys that they want to play with. Friends has been a huge success, and the fact that some girls aren't interested isn't evidence that the executives are out-of-touch buffoons. They know a lot more than we do about what kids like.

  18. I don't think so. If people didn't get them in time for Halloween, some people will want them for Christmas, which will make the set continue to rise in price.

  20. Just picked up a "7lb" bulk lego purchase on Craigslist for $35. After looking at the pictures and doing some snooping, I ID'd at least the beginnings of an 8039-1: Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser. Now that I have it, it looks like there is an 8077 Atlantis Exploration HQ in there too. Looking forward to sorting it and seeing how complete the sets are!

  23. There are times when it's worth it. I learned that by watching some of the masters here. I've purchased quite a few sets on the aftermarket, that I've been able to turn into a nice little profit. You just have to do a lot of research, be picky, and take your time.

  27. Less hoarded. Once in a generation set. No future remakes likely. It can be used as a wonderful display piece every Halloween, which is the new cool holiday. Just a wonderfully creative and finished set.

  28. 2013 was great too! We had FB, which I stocked up on, and WCS, which I thought was a waste at $20, since it just came with an ugly helicopter and some "Deadpool" guy I'd never heard of... Honestly, Deadpool? What was his mother thinking?

  29. I would buy 60, sure. Would buy more later if I didn't get everything I wanted in the quantity I wanted. Then I would sell the leftovers. I can't be bothered to feel out the packets.

  31. After seeing the desolation of Smaug from the hobbit I've decided I'm out now on collecting any more Hobbit related sets. I'll keep enough to have the collection of dwarves but man, that movie really turned me off. Kind of like how I never got into collecting any of the Star Wars Clone Wars or prequel sets. It's kind of relieving not to have a 'catch them all' mentality towards a theme.

  38. Lego Store manager said that they definitely wouldn't be seeing UCS Slave 1 until January. Said it was a stock issue, they don't have room to stock in stores along with the rest of the sets they want out for Christmas. Seems kind of strange, they could pile them in the middle of the floor and they'd sell.

  40. See lots of comments from US members saying stores have or had ample stock, but i think up here in Canada it's much more scarce (at least in the Toronto area). Toronto/GTA has 3 Lego stores and a Discovery Centre all within a reasonable range of each other that i frequent fairly often, and none of these has got any stock since the initial release. I've been hounding them these past 2 weeks about their shipments and if they expect any as i sold off the one i had for around $365CAD on feebay and would love the flip a few more as there seems to be a bigger shortage up here and money to be made. Ebay.ca has no listings for 76023 in "Canada Only". If this isn't all a plot, and we really won't see many until 2015... Canadians could be in for making some serious cash on this set! Of course some will buy from ebay.com and eat the high shipping cost/chance at import fees, but there are some who cannot justify paying $50+ in shipping from the US on a large set. Most stores say they are on a list to receive a couple, but that's it. I don't necessarily believe what they say, but it seems to add up given the lack of availability here. Discovery Centre says they will get a whole 2 sets in in Oct/November, and will actually have some kind of raffle/contest for them on Facebook haha. Mind you there are of course listings on Kijiji, certainly not many, and nothing in the GTA on Craigs. I'll have my eye on the Lego stores all week for potential shipments of Tumblers and be sure to let you Canadians know in the "Canada Local Deals Thread"

  41. Lol, how bizarre. And what a weird thing to be scrolling through this person's auctions and seeing these all mixed together. It's like.. Aw, this could be a cute choice... "Girls Frozen Elsa&Anna Olaf Snowman Kids Top Blouse T-Shirts Clothes 2-7Y Shirts" Ah, that looks nice for my little sweetpea too... "NEW Frozen ANNA Elsa Princess Dress Coronation Gown Costume Girls Xmas Size 7-8" Whoa...wtf?? "LEATHER GIMP DOG Puppy Hood Full Mask Mouth Gag Costume Party Mask ZIPPED MUZZLE" And... 42. Over the last few days, I built my Halloween village. I built the haunted house over 4 days - it is a peculiar build in that it starts with all the accessories and then bounces around the building. The end result is spectacular. I put my ghost train back together from the spring (plane in the box) My gf built the vampire castle - I think this set might be a winner, it is surprisingly good. (Car in the box) On the weekend, I built the Vampire hearse - a boring set barely worth the $9 and I don't see it being that successful if you didn't get it cheap. I can't add a picture using my phone app so I will add it shortly.

  44. The argument against modulars (too many people stocking up on them) is basically an argument against lego investing generally. It may be true, or become true at some point, but it is an argument against buying any lego for investment purposes, not just the modulars. I could also make the same argument against, for example, stocks (very, very pricey by historical standards using real, i.e. GAAP earnings, especially if cyclically adjusted), bonds (near record-low yields), or real estate (check out those home prices, once again way exceeding historical norms relative to median income). When central banks are flooding the world with currencies of all kinds, "cheap" investments are hard to find. Sadly, Lego does realize that, as evidenced by the new, 30% more expensive SSD, 50% more expensive B-Wing, and so on. The question becomes, just what do you buy for investment purposes in this sort of environment? Holding cash only guarantees a slow bleed to inflation.

  47. I built my used SSD. I plan to actually write a review about it as it is such a hot topic. Quick Notes - I didn't want to use a table to build it in case it took me a long time, so I created my own stand with a bulletin board and a base and built the sections at a table and transferred them over (basically the last 60% of the build is like this). The stand does not seem really sturdy but I have no fear of it falling - On its own, it is a sturdy build on its own as you can easily hold it. The interior is very repetitive and I didn't realize how big it really was until I was building it (even though I knew it was 4 feet long) Finally, stickers suck but in this case it is understandable. Now I have to find a home for it, and I will take a building break for a week.

  48. Hello, hello. Just swung by to post an update for those that might be interested. Biggest news: No Lego bought since I made this thread, aside from some sets for my son's impending birthday at the end of the month. I think I have completely kicked the addiction! Go me! Other news: Didn't sell anything in August because I was focusing on preparing for our three-week holiday, which we just got back from. We drove from UK all the way to southern spain and camped two nights on the way. Did the same on the way back. Recap of where I got to before the holiday ... Total revenue from selling 23 sets:
