That's a whole lotta girlie sets. Heartlake Lighthouse sounds interesting. I'd hate for the bulb to burn out and a whole Dolphin Cruiser full of party goers crashes into Heartlake Reef.4 points

That is why, when you buy a copy for yourself to build you should open it right away. Do not wait too long. Cause then the value is increased and you will have problems opening it. No matter what, it is difficult. I bought the 10231 Shuttle Adventure MISB and the 4184 Black Pearl MISB to build it. But cause of the move to the new house I cannot open them now. I have to wait. Prices already went up since a month or two ago. So I need to hurry up!3 points

If anyone wants to see what the official instructions look like then this Flickr gallery will help. Probably easier too since I can embed it into the post and you can go through it same as a slideshow. You can even see the parts list as well. It isn't a whole lot different than what I did a few posts back but this might be easier to follow for those of us more accustomed with Lego's setup. http://www.flickr.com/photos/neoape/sets/72157646320899458/3 points

I particularly enjoy the messages that instruct me what to do. For example I received the following eBay PM the other day: "pls offer $60 for this item, thanks!" Well, since you used an exclamation point, maybe I will...you seem friendly enough!2 points

Well... if it was a good buy at $55.98, it's a better buy at $48.98, no? http://shop.lego.com/en-US/The-Croc-Swamp-Hideout-70014?fromListing=listing Tempting... but this would be my first Chima purchase... just don't think I want to start into another theme. Also, if they have stacks of them at ToysRUS for $70, you can take a 20% coupon, and a 10% Thursday and get almost down to this price. For me, this may just be one of those that "got away".2 points

Not a high roller at all. It was a Risk Vs. Reward decision. Low risk with free target GC, yes I could have bought more Charmine, Bounty, and Tide, but with the chance of this set being another Rover, "Limited" in the catalogue, limit of 2 at LEGO Shop at Home, the designer saying it was one run and done and other factors I figured I would go for it. We shall see how it works out in a few months,2 points

Did you see full rumored set list here? http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=127408271#post127408271 Pirates Large Ship! Yay2 points

I agree, but I would probably do it the other way around. I would first make sure I get a well preserved, but cheap used set and then sell the MISB set for more after fees than I paid for the used one.2 points
-
Great post, redeemed. I would sell those MISB sets, and head to BL or CL to pick up a used copy of the same set. To me, there's no magic in cutting the seals on a set. Pocket the difference and still have a great set for buiding. Then when it's sat for a year in the basement, you can sell the used set for more than what you bought it for!2 points

Don't wait for discounts on this set(maybe double VIP in Oct). The last LOTR/Hobbit movie is December. You can pretty much well kiss this theme goodbye after the first of the new year.2 points

My seven year old is putting this set together by himself for me, so far all I've done is place the rubber bands on the legs. The same lot also has a 6210 Sail Barge, I'll have him do that next. After that onto the 6212 X-Wing. I think I'll surprise him and let him keep that one as payment for helping me out. This is the easiest lot I've done, since he's doing all the work. 7675 AT-TE2 points

I popped into Wal-Mart where I've been watching some older sets for discounts. They have an entire 2-sided isle of legos marked down and an additional 50% off the marked price. I spent $2000, but scored 10 Lego 9398 for $45 each; 3 Millenium Falcons for $32 each; SW Jek 14 $15 each; and 5 Goblin Attack Sets for $22 each. I also grabbed a bunch of smaller sets for kid's Christmas gifts. I broke the bank, but I'm set for Christmas selling. The only set I left behind was TMNT Shell Raiser. I figure if they have to discount them when the new movie just came out than TMNT must be a loser. Now I have to bust the blow dryer to pull off the clearance stickers without damaging the sets.2 points

Hello everyone. As you know there have been a ton of sets released throughout the years with just as many if not more reviews on each of them floating out there across the World Wide Web and keeping track is a difficult task to say the least. Therefore after much contemplation, I have started the first of what will soon be many of threads solely created as a resource to gather all these individual articles together into dedicated spots giving everybody quick & easy access to all of it. Please note these topics are locked strictly for the reason they are only meant to be a stockpile of quick links and not for open discussion. This is so nothing could potentially end up becoming lost somewhere in the thread and allows me to keep adding more links & even specific sections each year as time goes on. On that note, this thread right here is open for all to give constructive feedback, leave comments, or links to any set reviews I missed so that I may add them to the appropriate lists. I will also place links to the set review topics started and post any significant updates here. Thank you all and hopefully this is helpful. I sold my very first set today. RI for $52us +shipping. (And a fiasco of printing two seperate shipping labels). Because this was my first sale on eBay, or anywhere, I added a bonus polybag (but they don't know that) for taking a chance on a first time eBay seller. I'm on my way to millions!!!1 point

It took a while to edit this video together. I had the set in my studio for a long time and i just got to it. An awesome variety of pieces, big and little. There are a lot of different things you can build with the selection of pieces. Enjoy the video.1 point

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the only reason this set jumped as high as it did as fast as it did was because one buyer was buying the majority of the sets that were available for sale. He created an artificial demand for those months around the release. Had he not been buying everything that got listed, the price wouldn't have been $400+ during that time.1 point

Sets that I really, truly, intend to open and build I put in a completely different place than the sets I use for investment. It helps to keep them separate. I don't consider them as sets I've bought from myself. But, I do put them into my Brickfolio (as a used set), and I do list them on my own tracking spreadsheet. My investment goal, right now (because I have kids that play with Lego) is to make sure that I first cover my "play" costs with my investments. So, my first goal is break-even. (There are other goals, but for the purposes of this conversation, that's all that matters). But, sometimes I look at it individually. For example, last week, I flipped a few Star Wars Advent Calendars. I made enough from those to pay for the one calendar I wanted to make sure I had for myself. I do consider some of the sets I buy, and open up, as potential future investments, though. I like the architecture sets, and enjoy displaying them on my desk at work. Usually, I will buy one set, build and display it, and then, after a couple of months, it gets torn down and put into the investment area. Yes, it's used. But, I look at the used vs new selling price, and make piece with the idea that any money I may lose having opened the set is usually such a small amount that I "paid" for entertainment. (e.***., if I lose $5 on a architecture set, I certainly got $5 worth of enjoyment out of it).1 point

have not seen anything in the 30+ codes in the US yet. Europe's may be the run to satisfy and slightly overflow the back orders? all the codes here, including 26 are still pre initial release date, correct me if im wrong. im hoarding and holding my 3 cases for now. got half as many RIs but will hopefully and definitely get more girls IF they have a second run.1 point

I called. Nice person. They have been overwhelmed with calls on it. They are only getting in enough for backorders at LEGO Shop at Home. I asked about restocks at other stores. She said, any extras will go to retail lego stores in a few weeks so keep in touch with your local store. I said so production is winding down on this rather than up and they said yes. Sounds like there will be a small window and then it is gone. I agree with legodeloreans info.1 point

Forgotten it was me who started this thread. I never did get around to getting any of this set. But I am glad it turned out that way. For investment purposes I think this will be a failure, unless you can find it at a discount. In the UK at least I have never seen it. Its rarely available on ebay and when it is the price is usually around1 point

I'm confused. People have advised you that you'll generally get more on eBay for sets, but you choose to disregard that out of emotion ("who cares if I made an extra $20 bucks! eBay made more money than I think they should, so I'll go make less money somewhere else instead!") Now you're asking the lot of us to pull out our crystal balls and determine for you which venue will make more money for you when you might go sell there sometime next year. Will you then ignore that and go sell in a TRU parking lot? eBay has better traffic and faster sales. Bricklink and Brickowl have better communities and savvier buyers (especially Bricklink, because only the savvy put up with that interface). Who charges the most in fees is utterly irrelevant provided you are making as much or more net on the items in any given venue. At that point, it becomes a matter of personal preference in how you like to do business - some folks really appreciate the Bricklink community, some folks like to give the new kid some support on Brick Owl, some folks stick with eBay's annoying rules and go with the faster and generally better money there. TLDR Version: You can make your decisions for business reasons or emotional reasons, but mixing the two is a bad plan - you'll end up zigging when you should have zagged. I would read up some on making a business plan and do that and follow it - a much sounder method of determining venues to sell on than the coin toss you're trying to make.1 point

I have much to be thankful for. I'm starting this thread to give public acknowledgements to a few members who have helped me become a better investor by sharing their insights and wisdom, helped me find exclusive deals, shared breaking news on anything LEGO, or supported a good cause. Feel free to acknowledge someone here that has gone out of there way to help you or someone else in the Brickpicker community. I don't say thank you enough so this is a chance for me to show my appreciation. So to kick things off, here are just a few members I'd like to thank. @Ed and @Jeff - what can I say? This site is amazing. You guys do a phenomenal job moderating the forums. The information is invaluable to anyone who is obsessed with the LEGO investing hobby, myself included. @No More Monkeys - for keeping us informed of what's in stock any time of day or night. @33Lego - like NMM, thank you for posting what's available in basically real time. @emazers - for sharing your wisdom and investing philosophy. @exciter1 - for welcoming me to the site and encouraging me by answering some of my earlier posts @Bold Arrow - for letting me sit at the bar that one night...and thank you for posting so many great deals, AWD included @xeeej - for hooking us up with some amazing gift card deals this year. And finally, a special thanks to everyone who helped Gavin celebrate his birthday earlier this year. The Brickpicker community is one of a kind, and I'm proud to be a part of it.1 point

Right, I'm growing tired of these same sort of characters...Vikings, clowns, spacemen...enough already. Very boring. The Simpsons and The LEGO Movie were a breath of fresh air. I want some cool themed CMFs...Give me a STAR WARS CMF. Harry Potter. Atlantis. CITY. Anything...LOL1 point
