Was browsing the Lego store today and had to do a double-take when I saw a Fire Brigade on the shelf. Needless to say, I grabbed it immediately and asked one of the employees how this was still there and he said someone returned it and that they apparently don't look on ebay. The box had very slight creasing, but the seals looked intact. So I found a new condition retired set for msrp, got VIP points for it, and a Mini Cooper poly bag. I'd call that a win.13 points

I understand what you're trying to say, but I don't believe you're going to get a lot of sympathy here. If you are a serious investor, then you have to play seriously. So, you have to learn how to get a hold of things. You have to learn the tricks of obtaining the product that you want. And, you don't get to cry when you miss out. What you have to learn is that there's always "something else." Didn't get to jump on this, then invest the money elsewhere. Try to get a GE or SSD before they are completely gone. Don't have time to jump on those when they randomly pop up? Then you should look for something else. There's tons of advice on this site. I live in SoCal. Do you know how hard it is for me to jump on the Target or Walmart clearance sales? They're non-existent here. But those of us in SoCal don't cry about it - we just move on to the next thing. If you're here because you're a collector only, and you're only trying to get one for yourself; I'm sorry, but you've walked in the wolf's den. You're going to get great info, but you're also going to be exposed to those that are in is for the money. So, again, you're just going to have to listen, get the info, and get in while you can. I'm not saying this to be mean, just saying this to be realistic. There are tons of ways to get in on things, if you take the time to figure it out.8 points

Hello BrickPickers... With the increased site traffic and the new Brick Classifieds forum launching soon, we have asked jaisonline and Bold-Arrow to be moderators. They have graciously accepted. Jeff is finishing up the Brick Classifieds and it looks and works great(He showed me this morning). We will be adding a few more moderators once the Brick Classifieds site and forum go live, preferably members that will be active on the Brick Classifieds and will be able to instruct others on how to use the Brick Classifieds and inform new users about the rules and regulations. More on that later... Ed Mack5 points

I'm not a real investor, I just love this site for helping me find deals for my personal collection. So I went big today amd bought a pet shop, palace cinema and Parisian restaurant. Because of this site, I applied for the TRU card a few weeks ago to take advantage of the 25% coupon and 10% Thursdays. I was just playing around and was surprised to see that the 15% off code I got with the credit card worked on the exclusive lego sets at TRU.com. So between that code, the 25% off staple gift cards and then the current 15% off twosmiles gift cards! I got these for a little over 30% off. A huge chunk of my wants in one blow!3 points

Someone like myself? What is that supposed to mean? I set up alerts it's not hard. It was available the entire day on LEGO Shop at Home. If you want to cry about it do it somewhere else. This whole site is based on opportune buying and reselling.2 points

Yes, plenty of opportunities for someone like yourself. Most people can't watch retailer sites like a hawk or schedule their lives around planned LEGO purchases.2 points

I went garage sailing for lego for the first time ever. Found none but bought a real 1972 USPS Scale to weigh my sets.2 points

Those who don't think this set will do well may not be thinking of the potential crowd that may be buying this set down the road. It is a set of 3 different professions. And would be great as a graduation present for college instead of getting the typical money or jewelry. Being a 22 year old female, who just graduated from university, I would have loved to receive this set. It is small enough that it doesn't take up a lot of space. Also, when little girls grow up to be anthropologists or chemists or astrophysicists they will be making enough money to be able to buy this set at a higher cost in x amount of years. Just my 2 cents. There are too many males here thinking Star Wars are the only good sets.2 points

This thread is for confirmed "Retired Product" status updates as per Lego.com official website. I decided to create this thread as somewhere to keep track of confirmed EOL dates as per Lego "Retired Product" tags. Leaving the other thread for rumors and speculation (I have been through all 75 pages and pulled any confirmed retirement dates in to here). The "Retired Product" status can be found on Lego.com by searching for "Retired Product", this link should take you there: http://search-en.lego.com/?q=Retired+Product&cc=US Yes a "Retired Product" tag does not mean the set cannot be found at other retailers, but it is an official confirmation that the set is EOL (End of Line) at Lego and that future production and sales have been halted (there may be some exceptions to this and we can never say Lego will never ever bring them back). I'd like to keep this list updated and populated with any changes, so please post them (for the US based Lego Shop at Home only please). Because the Lego.com site does not have a date when a set is retired I have used the latest stock availability date as recorded at Brickset.com. On the Lego site many sets get a "Sold Out" tag and/or a "retiring soon" tag, then at some arbitrary time they get a "Retired Product" tag. If we think about it, the actual date of retirement is the date it goes "out of stock" for the last time. As such I'd like to start capturing set's "Sold out" status dates as well, but that can be a phase 2 project. So for now if you spot a new "Retired Product" post it below. This is a table of the most recent few months. Attached at the bottom is a full Excel spreadsheet with all the sets I could get from Lego.com. I hope you find it useful or interesting. Are these worth getting and parting out? I think I can get them at 20% over at TRU with the new coupon today. Do sets/lines that only really have 1 movie and no other recent media usually do well?1 point

8061 - Atlantis Gateway of the Squid This is the first Atlantis set that I really enjoyed putting together. It's a decent set, with a lot of "mystery" during the build. I liked how surprised I was while building it, with trying to figure out how it was going to come together. This was my last Atlantis set to put together. So glad to move on to something else now. Sell Savage And Grievous by themselves, sell a lot of clone troopers, if you have a clone captain or commander in there then sell them by themselves. Sell the droids together as a lot, sell the Magna guard by himself. Savage and Asajj also sell well as a pair.1 point

Hi Alpinemaps, Good Morning. I was neither complaining nor crying about anything in my post. I was simply disagreeing with marcandre's statement about consumers having 'plenty of opportunities' to pick up an exo-suit from one of the retailers he mentioned. I stayed up late on August 1 and have received my order from LEGO Shop at Home. I could have purchased more at Target.com the next morning, but didn't since I had already ordered what I wanted from LEGO. I'm able to stay up-to-date on release dates, stay up after midnight to place an order, and scan some sites now and then during the day. This may sound easy enough to do, but I've got to believe that most people don't want to do this. Many have more important things on their mind, need plenty of sleep for whatever they've got going on the next day, or both. I don't want to hear about how one needs to work hard to be successful in this business. 99% of the people who want the item aren't in the business of LEGO investing, they just want a cool set that's reasonably priced. Saying that a week of intermittent availablity gives one plenty of opportunities to do so is just not true. It's an extremely greedy statement.1 point

The exosuit just went from "Temporaly OoS, back September 11th" to "Sold out" (like the research institute some days ago).1 point

Well, I can answer some of your questions. 3) USPS Priority is great for postage until you hit about the 3 pound mark. Then FedEx and UPS Ground becomes much more cost efficient especially after 8 pounds. If you have a biz account, UPS and FedEx will save you even more. I think DINM wrote a blog on this topic. 1) harder said than done, when I completely ran out of space in the past, I bought new shelving units. However, I can't fit anymore in my house or the wife will put on riot gear and come after me (and rightfully so). I begin selling off sets that are more than 3 years retired (start with the older ones first) or sets that I feel have peaked (e.g. 20121 point

The Delorean is a beautiful car and will always remain special to me, but the version TLG decided to produce simply doesn't sit well on my desk as a display model. Try selling them on october 21, 2015.1 point

either you are reading my posts or we have some mental connection i just think 10214 is finally going to sunset later this yr. i'm prob wrong but do really wish people would start buying up this set like 10221 SSD and 10211 GEs so we can see how shop@home behaves. heck, i wasn't even looking to buy another 10214 today. it's a nice set just not my cup of tea. however, it was like the "force" whispered in my ear that "this was the set you are looking for"..1 point
