  1. Quite honestly, you have no shot at being a serious reseller if you are only using LEGO S@H as your source for sets.

  2. I'm starting to feel a little troll-la-la'd here. I am not quite getting how someone could be on this site for weeks and not find the Daily Deals thread, not to mention all the other threads, not to mention the direct advice to buy elsewhere, and fail to realize that there are a lot of other places to buy LEGO. Neocacher, if you're sincere, you are ignoring a great resource and need to educate yourself - stop buying now and spend at least ten hours or so reading a variety of investment threads on this site. You can thank me later. If you're just having some fun with us, well played, as generally I spot the smirk faster than this.

  4. Just to clarify, I am going to form a list of items that I need to create a ''diorama'' or better say beautiful display of MEDIEVAL market (MMV+MVR) and want to construct an own ''small'' mine full of gems that are being mined by workers..... and transported on market for selling. I guess I will need a King's Castle (Kingdoms one especially if anyone has used one for reasonable offer) and tons of workers and other figs. btw Darth_Raichu, thats pretty much 90% what you sent me last year, now on display and it looks great!

  5. Their rules are very simple: they don't want to sell to resellers. If they think you are a reseller (and you are), they don't want to sell to you. There is no doubt that in the implementation of their "no reseller" policy they are inconsistent at best and Congress-level incompetent at worst, but the bottom line is: they don't want you as a customer. You can accept that and move on to buying from other vendors who are happy to take your money, or you can circumvent that with a new account to a new address paying with a new credit card, or you can wring your hands and demand the heavens and/or LEGO minimum wage customer service reps answer "Why?!!!". Two of three of those are a decent use of your time, the other doesn't get you anywhere.

  7. I have a better idea...Take the credit and go buy a Haunted House, Maersk Triple E and any Modular house(You can even use an Arkham Asylum as a replacement for any of the three) and place them in a safe spot. In 5 years, pull them out and resell them. You can thank me later...

  9. Passed on some 30% gunships at Target today. A year ago I would have been all over these. At 50% I would have cleared them out. Walmart rewarded my patience and discipline with a SSD. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  10. Just sold a used but complete 7199 Indiana jones temple of doom for $167 shipped. I bought it off of eBay five weeks ago for $84 shipped. The buyer is only one state away, so shipping won't be too bad. After fees and shipping I should clear $50 profit. These are the types of quick flips that I enjoy.

  11. I meant to tell you my markdown sale for 10% off has been not running! I need to renew it. It will then sell for a depressed $135 each. I am guessing these things hit $150 by Christmas.

  13. My friend I never said it was similar to CAPM, I said we need a standardized system as in why/how CAPM is used. The point was that in building a price guide (the first of it's kind) using a standardized data set will create consistency and continuity to the platform. It makes it legitimate. An individuals personal rate of return is irrelevant to me in determining price of said asset and expected return. I have to be able to organize the data in a fashion that will allow me to model expectations etc. CAPM can be used to arrive at what an asset is worth taking into account cash flows etc. That is not similar here in exactness. It reflects a fundamental basis for evaluating an asset, vs. someone saying "here is how much it is worth". In looking at a portfolio I have a different rate of return for every client unless every client entered their positions at the same time and price. I believe CAGR being computed from the event of Manufacturing conclusion is important for modeling. A set has no ROR in reality if it is still available and can be bought and sold at retail through retail channels. The price guide is irrelevant as well since that same set can be purchased at retail or with coupons points etc. Thus to me a CAGR formula makes the most sense when said LEGO set is retired at LEGO themselves. This is when a price guide becomes valuable. I would think that until retirement the value of a set for investment purposes is the retail price as that is the most widely available data set for that particular "Set". If someone can get it for less and sell it for more, then their own individual return would be far different and reflected in a realized return calculation/chart/report for their own portfolio, Right now the brick folio tracks an inventory not so much a portfolio, Very usefull, fantastic for a holistic evaluation, but not a portfolio/investment evaluator. The reason I bring any of this up is that this site and the tools herein can become the premier guide for evaluating retired LEGO prices. The death star 10188 is a great example in that if one holds that set at retail for 6 years they have an effective return of zero. Ignoring the time value of money as that is speculative to the variables induced to arrive at discount rates etc. Should someone want to determine the viability of it as an investment it is worth 399.95. Once it retires the values of it moves it away from a total ROR and can be computed using a CAGR formula of some kind as the primary market is now the secondary market (ebay, amazon etc.) The person who purchased it 6 years ago would have a substantially lower total return one year after retirement than the person who purchased it the year before EOL. In either scenario the CAGR of the set/theme etc. would be the same, and thus quantifiable to future (death star type sets) if the CAGR was based on EOL date. This reply is starting to get long. So I will leave it at that. I will attempt to organize my thoughts and shoot it over to JEFF/ED in the coming weeks.

  15. The only thing I would add to this is a better chance at receiving a minty fresh set. They don't always arrive that way, but their track record is better than other retailers from my experience. I'm a box snob so that's important to me.

  16. Yes. I see your point. As a true collector, LEGO reps have stated they have no issues with people buying a set to build and one to save for a rainy day. Most collectors never get banned. Buy 2 Tower Bridges and you won't get banned. Buy 5 Tower Bridges and you might. It's a fine line.

  18. Basically. If you are a hardcore reseller, LEGO S@H is a minor retailer in your arsenal. LEGO S@H works more for the small time/dabbler, who likes to pick up a promo set to resell or save a few bucks on Doble/Triple VIP points. If you are a sharp reseller, eBay can replace many of these items. Over the past month, I have bought numerous "exclusive" sets on eBay at discounted rates. How? eBay ran Quadruple bucks for weeks which equaled 10% off. Also, eBay gave me $20 off coupons to use. Also...I paid zero tax. I negotiated with the seller and saved even more. Who needs LEGO S@H?

  19. From a collector's side, 2 and 3 are enough to make me not want to be banned. It may not be a huge deal in terms of pure investing and deal hunting but I love the polybags and getting sets I really want early. Maybe I'm just weird but there's a certain charm in walking out of the store with your big yellow bag, or finding your official SAH package waiting at the door, something you don't get when Walmart/TRU send you a poorly packaged pooheap.

  20. Deals have to be 20% off or more to be posted in the Daily Deals thread, not 25%. I good portion of the deals are between 20% and 25% off. That is much better than anything Lego would give to us.
    1 point
  21. If you get banned from Lego, here's what you lose: 1. No VIP points (e.***., 5% off) 2. No direct access to giveaways; you'll have to get them on Ebay. 3. Early access to VIP sets. Is there anything else? I don't see it. Even with double (or triple) VIP maps, I don't see the big deal. We don't even list Amazon deals in the Daily Deals thread unless they are 25% off.

  29. I think the 10,000 figure is more of a minimum limit on the size of a production run. A single run may be larger than that, but it will be in multiples of 10,000. It seems my rover had just one run, but some of the estimates here suggest that perhaps 20-30,000 were produced. This is all just my own speculation, though. Anyway, can't wait to get a few of those Exo-Suits!

  38. This is not correct. Media mail is for all "normal" books (from trashy paperback fiction to textbooks and everything between) and certain other "media" (music and dvds, for example, both fall under the classification for "sound recording" and are allowed). Regardless of the usps website advertising, it's not limited to educational materials. When in doubt as to postal rules, always consult the DMM (Domestic Mail Manual) - it's the bottom line in what's what. http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/173.htm From the DMM: Content Standards for Media Mail 4.1Qualified Items Only these items may be mailed at the Media Mail prices: a.Books, including books issued to supplement other books, of at least eightprinted pages, consisting wholly of reading matter or scholarly bibliography, or reading matter with incidental blank spaces for notations and containing no advertising matter other than incidental announcements of books. Advertising includes paid advertising and the publishers' own advertising in display, classified, or editorial style. b.16-millimeter or narrower width films, which must be positive prints in final form for viewing, and catalogs of such films of 24 pages or more (at least 22 of which are printed). Films and film catalogs sent to or from commercial theaters do not qualify for the Media Mail price. c.Printed music, whether in bound or sheet form. d.Printed objective test materials and their accessories used by or on behalf of educational institutions to test ability, aptitude, achievement, interests, and other mental and personal qualities with or without answers, test scores, or identifying information recorded thereon in writing or by mark. e.Sound recordings, including incidental announcements of recordings andguides or scripts prepared solely for use with such recordings. Video recordings and player piano rolls are classified as sound recordings. f.Playscripts and manuscripts for books, periodicals, and music. ***.Printed educational reference charts designed to instruct or train individuals for improving or developing their capabilities. Each chart must be a single printed sheet of information designed for educational reference. The information on the chart, which may be printed on one or both sides of the sheet, must be conveyed primarily by graphs, diagrams, tables, or other nonnarrative matter. An educational reference chart is normally but not necessarily devoted to one subject. A chart on which the information is conveyed primarily by textual matter in a narrative form does not qualify as a printed educational reference chart for mailing at the Media Mail prices even if it includes graphs, diagrams, or tables. Examples of qualifying charts include maps produced primarily for educational reference, tables of mathematical or scientific equations, noun declensions or verb conjugations used in the study of languages, periodic table of elements, botanical or zoological tables, and other tables used in the study of science. ****.Loose-leaf pages and their binders consisting of medical information fordistribution to doctors, hospitals, medical schools, and medical students. i.Computer-readable media containing prerecorded information and guides or scripts prepared solely for use with such media.

  43. First rule of lego investing...never let what a lego store employee tells you influence your buying decisions. They don't know any more about eol than you or I do. For all you know, this store was probably sitting on a pile of pet shops and he told you that hoping to move a few of them.

  44. I was going to post a Craigslist find for $170 which included Palace Cinema, Arkham Asylum (the new one), 7965 Falcon, Craggers Command Ship along with every Superheroes set from the last two years including Batcave, Batwing, Helicarrier breakout, Quinjet, Wolverine Chopper, Funhouse, Two face chase, etc but your CL lot beat me by a mile. Mine were all mixed together in two big boxes but after many nights, I have completed everything except for Arkham Asylum, surprising, they were all 99.5% complete so far. It included all the minifigures which I why I pulled the trigger in the first place since I did not know if everything was complete. Good job.

  46. if there is a new modular this summer, I think it will only help GE and FB grow in secondary market as more fans climb aboard. still relatively 'cheap' to get them vs older modulars if GE is gone and joining FB. has there been a year recently without a new modular release? PR seems to be a big hit and lots of positive feedback, helped spark more interest in the theme. and maybe helped sales with other buildings as folks want to build a modular street. I can't think 4yrs down the road for this newish hobby (small time investor) and projecting $600 hope it happens and I have a couple GEs left. I will happily start flipping at $350-$400 when and if that happens and let the big players invest longer term. maybe hold one set back!

  48. A couple of things for many of you new investors... LEGO will ban you for multiple purchases of the same set from LEGO S@H within a short period of time...especially exclusives. LEGO is not very clear on these limits, but take it from experience, people will be banned for multiple and frequent purchases of the same set Mixing up purchases and keeping set purchases to 2 or 3 can prevent most bans Even if banned from LEGO S@H, there are many other options to buy LEGO sets...Amazon, eBay, TRU, Target, Walmart, etc...Many have better deals than LEGO themselves
