  1. Quoted from an article on cognitive biases: Projection Bias As individuals trapped inside our own minds 24/7, it's often difficult for us to project outside the bounds of our own consciousness and preferences. We tend to assume that most people think just like us

  2. I am just getting back in to building. This set helped bring me back. In addition to TMNT toys, Ghostbusters and Legos were my biggest collections as a kid. I finally picked this up yesterday. It was a really fun build. Finally got some decent light. I moved the steering wheel to the side rather than the middle after seeing some others here do the same.

  3. Went to TRU to check out the clearance.... nothing that was mentioned in the daily deals thread was marked down at my local TRU, but they did have an SSD on the shelf in near perfect condition, the only flaws were from that damn spider wrap. It was at the inflated $499.99 price, but I was able to use the 20% off coupon along with the 15% for signing up for the TRU credit card - ended up getting it for $363.99 out the door. Surprised the coupons went through, didn't need a manager or anything.

  7. Just seeing this now on Brickset. Looks excellent! I love that they have added 3 minifigures, as well as a (sticker?) of a classroom board. What do you guys/gals think?

  9. You may have heard of Pepa Quin before if you can recall the huge city of New New York from Futurama he did a year or so ago. Anyway, his next challenge was the city of Springfield from The Simpsons. via The Brick Fan

  10. The Camper has cross over appeal. I have seen this model displayed at car dealerships, museums etc. My wife likes it. You don't have to be a burned out hippy either. The question is if the non-AFOL will be willing to spend $250 on it. I can see it appealing to silicon valley types and hipsters with money. It is also easy to display which cannot be said for something like the SSD.

  12. There are many cases in which smart investors buy at high prices. Don't underestimate the AFOL with some extra cash. They will spend it on all types of sets they wanted years previously, but missed the opportunity.

  15. I've seen nowinstock.net alert about ssd at tru, but it was 4:10 AM MST today. At the time I bothered to wake up, it had no availability. The link is http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12010306 Curiously, it is not listed under "All Lego" at TRU. Shows up under generic "toys" category

  16. But, say, tru in nyc, times square, does carry exclusives, right? If someone nearby, it might worth checking out...

  17. Right. With the next update, if there are any sales, it will show up. Jeff and I have discussed adding the MSRP price to new sets in the database with the next full Brickfolio version. At least this way, the sets in your Brickfolio have a value until we get some sold listings back from eBay to come up with a value.

  19. 31010 - Treehouse, 3183 - Stephanie's Cool Convertible, & 79003 - An Unexpected Gathering. Yes, I have been super busy as well as not posting anything here for a while. Catching up, I built the main model of the Treehouse which has a lot of fun play features between a retractable ladder and pulley system perfect for the childlike theme of the set. The other two alternates are nice too although very small as you would imagine but still good. My favorite detail is the oven in the Lakeside Hut design with the best usage of an inverted 2x2 tile as the tray holding the pizza. The Barn is simple but I do like the brown frame detailing plus the crop garden. Now I have been meaning to build a Friends set in a good while so I finally sat down and built my first one which so happens to also be the very first Friends set I purchased, Stephanie

  21. That's $20 off retail, maybe $30 after tax. They seem to vary on ebay, but I don't think it's a terrible idea!

  25. Very cool set IMHO. The design that goes into these Technic sets never fails to impress me. I wouldn't know where to start trying to design something like that from scratch. I'd also like to see more licensed Technic sets for that extra bit of collectability value.

  26. If someone is going through every craigslist market ****** america vs. ebay, they aren't looking to save $20, they're looking to get a free set. If it was me I would text back asking how much he wanted for his SSD to make him think I was buying one off of him and confusing him a bit hehe.

  27. Ok, so If I demand a gift payment through Paypal, I should be fine if he accepts? Are there any other possible scamming techniques I need to be aware of with this type of payment? I've already learned some new things today. Thanks for all the advice.

  28. I've kind of been watching Amazon for the past few weeks. When it went live today, it wasn't too hard to talk myself into getting a couple more. Of course, I'm still in a no sales tax state and you can factor in the Amazon 3% cash back. It's hard to resist a few more when you see them shooting up to almost $700 so quickly.

  29. If he gifts it, as far as I know there is noway for him to get the money back. The buyer has zero protection and this is a way for the seller to scam the buyer.

  32. People in Detroit just rip the stuff open and take. Never come across a reseal but I have checked the seals pretty good when something looks shelf worn. Detroit - we aren't subtle we just plow through. But you have to hit the walmart because the 50% discounts is just too much to pass on. There are only a few other "collectors" that I know of that are hitting the same rounds that I am but we are all just buyers. No one has sstarted done the path of stealing and returning. But honesty is a funny thing - I got a few extra simpson minifig packs in my cart by accident and I went through self checkout so I didn't ring them up. Found them later when I counted the packs and I went back and paid for them. I sleep better at night knowing I paid for them. Just becasue you can steal doesn't mean you should but there are way too many out there who do. Sorry, some people just suck but what they put in the world is what they are going to get back. Karma.

  35. According to me this is an interesting set with remarks 1/ in 12 months there will be scarcity @ resellers 2/ the European market is less saturated as we didn't get that riduculous US discount deal. 3/ the set will have a hard time breaking the 200E mark as there's stock left at the B&M retailers still 4/ The built is fragile and not easy to showcase. Removing dust = risk of breaking. No playability. So I agree that 2015 should be the year it's time to start selling some and 2014 (between now -> Nov) the time to buy if you haven't invested enough, but with moderation. good luck

  36. Thanks legopocalypse, jjsrt8, & weakside! I am still thinking about what I will do, but I am excited either way. I am still trying to figure out my long-term perspective. My biggest challenge is storage space and keeping the wife happy. She is not real excited about my current collection size. Any other insights would be welcome.

  39. Sorry, I was referring to the calendar where right beside the turtles it says "Build a totally awesome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle!" and then there is a large phrase of "BOOYAKASHA!" spreading across July 11 & 12. I've never heard of it before therefore my initial confusion. Well, that problem solved then.....Still have no idea what it means.
