  1. Decided to give in and spend a chunk load of money on this set. Used and in good condition, Will be doing a stop motion build on this once I can verify all the pieces and sort them out. Whatever you read about this set regarding the size nothing will prepare you for it! once you get it!! This is a huge set and the number of bags is overwhelming to say the least. It is a true monster of a set! worth every $ I paid for it. Enjoy!!

  2. I just wrapped up this video. Way better than the previous sets. I was never a fan of the TNMT as a kid and didn't much care for the Lego sets either until now. This series of sets are a lot more realistic and dark. A really great build. The turtle mini figures are awesome.

  3. Right but there are many more people hoarding sets for resale now.

  4. 4981 - Chum Bucket along with 9 other sets. I took about 20% less to get them out and clear space. Happy that my Cafe Corner CL lot now has me in the black. $90 in my pocket plus a Cool Convertible (4993), Cafe Corner and Batmobile set (7781) to keep and 6 sets to sell later this summer for about 150-200 after fees.

  5. No, you can't really use Green Grocer as something to compare. It was very different environment back then. Proverbial cat is out of the proverbial bag

  6. Getting to attached to the sets in a bulk lot. I already decided to keep the Black Pearl, but for some reason I'm wanting to keep the QAR as well (I already have one displayed) and the Ghost Train does look nice and I think even a used Haunted House still has a good upside poten... @&%#$.

  8. Anyone seen the 42030 Volvo Front Loader? http://brickset.com/sets/42030-1/Volvo-L350F-Front-Loader So I mentioned in a blog about Technic showing up in other stores that I thought it might be good for the theme. If Lego invests more money in it, maybe they will start licensing more of it like the Unimog. Well we have another licensed set. Volvo may not be the biggest name in construction, but its certainly looks like a push in that direction. Technic lovers love Construction - and I feel like they will love licensed Construction even more. This is a big boy at 1636 pieces. Looks sweet too:

  9. After 2 years of waiting, I finally used some of my profits toward a 10179. It's an open box non-special edition set with a very good to excellent conditioned manual. Was able to pay under Brickpicker and Bricklink values. Honestly, I wasn't ready for the 27 pound box that FedEx delivered. I wasn't home but a neighbor signed for it so that meant, your's truly carried this heavy beast 1/4ths of a block. I did a quick inspection and everything looked good enough. The key elements were there. I'm estimating a 3 week build since this will be done only during my spare time (usually when everyone is sleeping). I also decided to use the downloaded PDF version of the instructions on my iPad to limit wear on the manual. Plus, I like being able to zoom in when needed. 10. **Updated with more behavioral examples** 8/1/2014 Many folks ask questions about "what does this product status mean?" Many folks use these terms interchangeably, and that's not helpful to the community discussion. These terms all seem to have distinct and meaningful differences. I think we can learn from them, and their subtle differences. I thought i'd put a post together to gather those statuses (Statii?) and some interpretations of their meaning. Perhaps we could also include examples of how products behaved while in those statuses. Obviously these statuses will change with time, so feel free to suggest better examples as things change. Lego Shop @ Home (in proposed order of most retired) Retired Product Example Orc Forge Example Super Star Destroyer 10221 (as of 8/18/2014) Retiring Soon Ex: Croc Swamp Ex: SSD never had the Retiring Soon tag, so this is not a required stage "Product Not Available" -We

  14. That's my point, due to the fact it jumped immediately, it makes it a little stranger that it's flat for a number of months, but for a normal yearly ROI I'm still happy holding it. Clearly ongoing demand hasn't been high enough to push the price up, but when supply dries up a bit more I think the price will climb. I would surmise that the people buying at $380 a year ago were collectors/investors who didn't want to miss the bandwagon. Now those people are probably people who want to build it, so supply will keep going down. This will also be a weird one as I would expect the investor to builder ratio is much higher than a normal set.

  15. I can criticize this point because the set was up 100% from MSRP within a few weeks of the set being released.

  16. This should be a fun thread. A couple of points. - Let's realize we are criticizing a set that is up nearly 100% from MSRP in one year. I think it's just a strange growth curve, if it had been linear upward people would be pretty stoked in the growth right now. - The point about the other crawler is a good one. When that is gone I think this creeps up again. - The biggest wild card of all is whether this is a one and done or not. If they continue this as a series - imagine like the modulars, but limited edition designs - then those who held onto these are going to score big time. If they had only built one modular and been done with it, I'm sure it would still be valuable, but a big part of it is being first in the series.

  17. I hope nobody wants these.. that uk guy is a con artist. I hope these crash and burn and he loses all his money

  19. I think $600 in 4 years is a very realistic goal for Grand Emporium. I agree on FB, it creeped up pretty quick to $299 as the general baseline but it has been stalling at that level. It is summer and things slow so either it will quickly escalate near Christmas or remain stagnant based on people's inventory and desire to unload. My guess is FB is $400 at Christmas and GE is $300 at Christmas. For a sealed new mint pristine one I think they will both hit $1,000 someday but it is a question of how long and if it is worth waiting or at what point you cash out and do other purchase and short term hold to make more money on your overall return. Wish I had those answers.

  22. i speculate one day 6-7 years from now after inflation has had a little run, and allowing for a few more AFOL's to mature, get through college, and get a job, we'll be joking about how the price of the GE is the name of the GE. Grand. indeed. i think the 600 dollar emporium is quite possible.

  25. Finished building a used 7662 MTT I got for a great price. Missing a handful of tiles and a couple of the slopes were cracked, but I managed to find replacements for most of the parts in my spare parts bucket. Other than that, everything was in great shape! I never really paid much attention to the MTT in the movie, but the build was fun and it looks impressive. I like how the extras like the little hover vehicle fit inside the main tank body.

  28. I don't disagree with your observations, especially the leg printing, I can only say I think overall the model is still nice. We won't ever know whether Lego tried to create a tripod and failed miserably or took the easy way out.

  29. It happens. Architecture Studio, Catwoman Catcycle Chase, Batcave are just some examples of sets that have said Sold Out and come back. There are others that have also had the same thing happen. Until it says retired we can't be sure.

  40. I went to my Wally World to buy some pool chemicals. As always I had to check the lego aisle. I saw a lone bat cave sitting there with no tag. I scanned it on my phone. Nothing came up. I scanned it on the in store scanner. Again, nothing came up. I saw an employee scanning some items a few aisles away. She scanned it, and said it wasn't in the system anymore. If I wanted it she could mark it down to $35. Score! I asked if they had anymore. Sadly, they did not. I already have several of these bought around $50, which I feel was a good price. Getting one for $35 made my day.

  41. I built the mystery box this weekend. The mystery box could be anything, it could even be a boat. Turns out that it actually was a boat 10210 is an impressive build, has great details and it displays well (I am missing two brown technic barrels for a sail, but those are easy to replace). The organ was a nice addition and I really appreciate that the galley and cannon areas were designed to be detachable in the same manner that the floors of a modular building are. This is a build that really comes together nicely and at 30" by 24", it takes up a lot of space. A great buy, especially at $160 under the BP price

  45. Other than the radar dish which was just shipped today, I'll be receiving my last order of regular parts today and I can finally finish my build on this. I started BLing it back in November and finally got everything. I have a spot in my room where I have my red tail boa cage that it will fit perfectly on and I'll snap a picture of it once I get it together. Congrats on your pick up man!

  46. I run in deeply technical IT process and security circles so I heard about it early and I've been involved since Dec 2010, back when it made sense to run your own miners. At one point I had 3 pc's with two cards each running 24x7. The difficulty was so low back then that you'd hit coins all the time, and of course they were worth less than the electricity required to find them. There were guys then (and now) running basically their own small data centers full of miners, and a bunch of guys in the bitcoin world that would sell you mining capacity without people ever having to buy their own hardware. I'm sure all of that is still around. I sold off a bunch on mtgox, right around the time of the 1st breach, during the 1st run up in 2011 and made some crazy money on it. Sold more just a few weeks ago, and still have a bunch left over. I'm being purposefully obscure about the exact numbers here. At some point in late summer 2011 when the difficulty increased I switched over to a mining pool, BTCGuild I think, and did that for a while, until eventually stopping and selling off my hardware. This was another area where for a while you could have bought specific GPU's and sold them for way above market price. Not sure now though...haven't checked those prices in a while. As far as my opinion of it, it is what it is. I don't see it really ever being a form of currency that will have any impact on LEGO sales, mainly because the privacy aspect of Bitcoin is really irrelevant. IMO the privacy aspect is really the only reason Bitcoin has the value that it does. Also, the value of Bitcoin is too volatile for LEGO sales. At this point I can't see someone just getting into Bitcoin...that ship has sailed unless there's a total crash in the market then you might want to buy some up. Or, I could be wrong and in a year they could be worth 10x what they're worth now. I also have many Namecoins as well, which is a Bitcoin derivative.
