  2. While yard saling on Saturday I picked up a Star Wars Set #8039 Venator Class Republic Attack Cruiser. I was just looking at the box, slightly mangled, and the guy said "you want that lego set? 5 bucks". I was looking at the set for maybe two seconds thinking thats a killer deal for 1100+ pieces and then the guy says "is that too much? 3 bucks." I looked at my yard saling wingman, the one who carries the cash, and said pay the man. All the minifigs were missing and the directions were also slightly mangled but all the pieces were there and shiny as can be. Some of the stickers werent even applied yet.

  3. Hit the motherlode on Friday and just now getting around to talking about it. My weekly flyer for Real Canadian Superstore (a grocery chain that also has a toy section where I get my best discounts) showed select Star Wars and other sets are 20% off this week. On top of that, they were doing a no tax event so those sets would be 33% off (20% discount plus 13% HST). As I'm driving to the store I get my weekly PC points email which has personalized offers of bonus points (which you can redeem for discounts) based on my past shopping history (ie $2 off of milk, etc.). For the first time ever, I get a toy related offer (most of them are food related). On top of the 20% discount and the 13% no tax, I get $8 in points for every $40 I spend on toys. That's another 20%!!! So I get to the store and pick up a couple of random Star Wars sets worth $80 and figure I'll come out just under $40 total. By chance I see a skid of boxes and lego sets down the aisle waiting to be unloaded and walk over. And there they were - 7 Wolverine Chopper 6866 sets in pristine condition! I haven't seen this set on a retail shelf anywhere since February. I sold 4 of them recently for between $50 and $75 each. I do the quick mental math as a formality only because there's no question I'm taking them all. I get to the cash and it gets even better. Retail price being $25, they're on CLEARANCE for $11 each!!!! Plus all the above discounts!!! 7 of these gold mines at about $6 each will make me close to a 1000% instant profit at current levels. Best. Score. Ever. (For Me.)

  6. Finished building my 10227 UCS B-Wing last night. I'm pretty impressed by it, it's huge and nicely detailed. I've read a lot of negative reviews about it, and I'm glad I didn't let them dissuade me from buying this. One of the common complaints is that it's unstable, I find it to be opposite. It feels very solid in hand. The back of the cockpit does come off easily, but that's the only weak point of the model. Not sure where I'm going to put this thing, I'll have to clear out a large swath of shelf space to fit it.

  9. These prices have been plateaued for years, they didn't just reach these levels last year. Plus, you said earlier that there were few WW1 enthusiasts, a big reason to stay away. The gains from both of these older sets tell me there were plenty that would plunk down big money for WWI sets. Also, re: your comment that the market has changed, you're right. There are many more AFOLs and Lego collectors now than there were eleven years ago. The secondary market is MUCH larger. You're welcome to do what you please with your money, but I think you are way overthinking this. People will pay $ for SC. They have in the past, they will again.

  10. New results are in! The April and May price guide updates happened simultaneously so we have a 2 month gap from our last update. Only one more month to go before the contest ends! IAmElim with his 28 x Wolverine Chopper has taken over top spot after the dip in price for Desert Skiff pushed jojoyojimbi and Mos_Eisley down the rankings a bit. Starpod and Busch97racing are a little ways back in 2nd and 3rd with their heavy portfolio of 5 x Unimog. The biggest mover since the March update in the positive direction is njseale up 35 places from 78th to 43rd. On the slide side we have tdw down 27 spots from 40th to 67th.

  16. Actually, keep the sets, then after the divorce is finalized and the ex wife comes looking for her "half", unload the chima, galaxy squad, Lone Ranger, and ninjago on her. Let her deal with them. I'd keep the monster fighters for yourself.

  17. a reputation to not make a profit? target is just doing what TRU does just less extreme. i'm not holding it against target - if anything I think its awesome because its already boosting the value of the GE's I already own. i can't wait to see the pop when this goes to SOLD OUT. if you want 1 or 5 GE for yourself to build, buy at LEGO Shop at Home at msrp + VIP points. building or adding to your position in GE is not going to be easy from here on out at target or walmart. SSD is gone. money has to go somewhere. GE is an attractive option.

  18. I personally bunch my sets into short (0-6 months), medium (1-2 years) and long (2+ years) term categories. That way I have a balanced approach and steady cash flow. I'd love to hold everything I have for 2+ years but realistically I'm not made of money. Another thing I've done is buy, say, 6 sets of something. I'll sell the first 4 at a lower profit margin, and use those profits to freeroll the last 2 sets.

  23. Comic book collectors care a lot about costumes, and I think they'll be looking for this set even if they aren't into Lego in general. Comic collectors will buy 5 copies of a comic just to get all the alternate art. If they decide they want to collect super hero Lego, they'll want all the costume variations. This is currently the only super heroes set I have on display, and I don't even care that much for superman. It's just a really cool looking set, I think it will do fine.

  25. Personally I'd go with GE's. Or if you had a bit more funds and want diversity, one of each GE + VW Camper + Camel. I like Camper more than Camel for personal collection and investment potential. Just my 2 cents. There is tons of topics on these sets so enjoy reading and hope it helps your decision.

  30. I say go with your gut instict. If you buy a huge amount of a single set and it doesn't do well......o well that is the gamble you take when playing this game. There is no more easy in this game and if you ask me there never was. All these articles on the Internet and in print saying buy Lego sell Lego easy money are fooling some people. I guarantee there many people who have already dropped out because it wasn't the easy money they had hoped it would be.

  33. My sons 9th birthday so we built Highway speedster, Grand Prix truck, Umbrian Mobile Heavy Cannon, Spider droid, and the new droid ship. Lot's of fun. The droid ship has good play-ability and is pretty solid. I'm still new to building lego but it also had several pieces I've never seen. The spider droid and Umbrian cannon are awkward to play with but my son loves the spring loaded missile on the cannon. All in all it was a fun day.

  34. Don't feel bad, I was busy that weekend and didn't end up buying ANYTHING from SAH so I don't have a Revan. I was lucky to find a Malevolence during Boxing week at 1/2 price but I just have the one.

  35. Yup. This is one underrated set that quickly jumps when people think it's about to be retired by being sold-out. While WW1 might not be as 'historic' to some as WW2, etc... 10226 is a cool build, looks good, has unique elements, about a 20" wingspan, and offers limited joystick / wire functionality like the original. I wasn't a fan of this set until finally broke down and bought a used one. I also like how it looks so darn good that some people think's a remote control flying airplane.

  40. 10227 B-Wing, my first starship UCS build. I had a few of these stashed, and I always meant to crack one open to build, I'm considering it a Father's Day gift to myself. Taking my time and enjoying the build, getting through a bag a night before bed to wind down. It's a fun build, even though it's repetitive. The B-Wing is one of my favorite fighters from Star Wars, always liked the unique shape of it.
