  1. My new son is only 4 months old. A good friend/coworker bought us a shirt when he was born that said: "My father was waiting for me to play Lego" It has been a long journey to find him (adoption). Got all teary eyed just typing this out. This is my first fathers day! WOOOOOOOO WHOOOOOO!

  2. I can't really remember what I said about the 41999 Crawler besides it was a great set which should reach $700-$1000 in the future. I didn't trust Mark(or Mark's employee) and his questionable behavior, so I probably recommended against selling sets to him. I don't think I would I tell someone not to flip a 41999 for two and a half times MSRP to a normal buyer. Doing that to a SSD would be quite a nice score and would have been a quality flip. The "no brain" comment was blown out of proportion IMO. It was not meant to offend, but it was meant to make people pay attention. Basically, it was a bad joke. I have often tried to give hints to people along the way if you read between the lines. Sometimes I'm a little more blunt. People send me information all the time and I have to sift through the trash for the treasure. I think you will find I was right about the SSD, at least in the US. My sources have had an excellent track record. As for letting others doing the dirty work, that's not how I roll. I try to be nice until it's time not to be nice. I didn't mean to offend Stoltzj77, but I will mix it up if I have to. I should be allowed to have an opinion. Political correctness is overdone IMO. If people think I'm an a**hole, so be it. There is still good information here and it is a useful site to help people save and make money. I might even be right on occasion.

  4. With Father's Day coming up...any members have good stories or ideas on fitting in Lego with your kid(s) or dads? Maybe a surprise gift or MOC? I think most of us dad's just want some free time or to play golf/hang out with the guys/bbq etc My 4.5yr old son is VERY excited about finally opening the Grand Emporium to build this weekend - he's counting down the days. Figured since he's still young nice to have some memories/pics of us building together since he enjoys Lego a lot. Up until now the largest set we've built was only the Weathertop which is smallish so the GE will be a big challenge. I preempted my son by saying it's going to take us a week to build this thing...no rush, we'll do a few pages every day. His reaction was 'I want to build everything!'

  5. Many pooh-poohed the UCS B-wing. I rather liked the model, but admit some changes were needed. I attempted to make the changes I felt were necessary to become a true UCS model. Pictures are on my MOC pages. http://mocpages.com/moc.php/390298

  9. This isn`t the thread for a debate on "Collecting/Hobby vs Investment", so I`ll keep my comment as short and close to the point as possible. There are folks who fit solely into each of those categories, and others who sort of span the gap and fill both. If your goal is to solely make money, and who do not give a second thought to collecting or building, your perspective is going to be different than someone who fills the opposite category, and vice-versa. I`d also argue there are several sub-categories under each of those. For collecting/hobby: completists, minifigures collectors, entire set builders/collectors, sealed box collectors, etc. For investment: mainly flippers and long/longer term holders. I`ll focus on the second set of categories for the moments. Some people view this as a means to make quite a bit of money through the long term, thus holding their sets long for maximum profit or in other words increase wealth/capital. Others do this on the side as a means to make a quick buck here and there. Even still, there are plenty of people who aim to sell as a business and in most cases flip/sell other non-Lego items to do so. It should be obvious that everyone is going to approach this, like almost any other investment, through a different POV, sometimes a drastically different one. To say that someone else`s decision to buy or sell is stupid/insane/wrong only works if you understand the approach they are taking. As an example, someone buys a set for $100, sells it 6months later for $150, knowing full well it could be worth $200-$250 a year later. If the goal of that person was to maximize profit while doing minimal work, then it would be justified to say their choice was stupid. Of course it was! Why would they do such a thing? Unless perhaps they had different goals. They wanted a short term flip for optimal cash flow perhaps, and in that 6month span were able to flip more product with that cash and thus exceed the $50-$100 difference. There is just no way to tell for sure. Bottom line there are different approach, and you have to look and see where someone else is coming from. Now of course, there is just plain stupid, and there is tons of that around, far more than the presence of reason I`ve mentioned, but hopefully someone gets the point. Don`t always assume someone doesn`t know what they are doing, 8/10 times maybe they don`t, but 2/10 just might, and it`s not fair to toss them in with the rest. And also, it really is tasteless IMHO to insult someone out of ignorance because you (generally) don`t know where they are coming from. It`s fine to not know, but anyone who wants to point a finger at the other guy should maybe stop and consider that they just might hold a perspective that is valuable/optimal for them, even if it is not in agreement with your own.

  10. This coming from a man who is selling their SSD for $2499 as per the price fixing conversation... Who has a bottomless well of finances? Why would I even discuss affiliate marketing if I had such a thing? It's the casual investors that click on the links. The experienced investors are clicking on their own affiliate programs(like ebates) to collect a few extra dollars, thus avoiding ours. But I guess I'm just a fool with no knowledge of how affiliate marketing works. We track everything a person does on this site. What links they click or don't click. What features they use or don't use. We also know if you use our affiliate links or don't. He was the one who mentioned affiliate commissions in the first place and was offended by an off the cuff comment. Do you want honest feedback on investing or some fluff that promotes buying the wrong sets for the sake of our affiliate accounts? I called the idea of flipping a possible retired SSD for $100 stupid...Sorry. It is. If the SSD is indeed retired, where will a person find a set with that sort of investment potential again? Flip some terd of a set on Amazon for a couple of bucks if that is what you want to do, not an SSD that can triple in value in two years if it is indeed retired. If a person cannot afford to have a $400 set sit in their closet for a couple of years, then maybe it's time to reevaluate career choices and/or investment methods. It is not an insult or personal if one cannot afford $400 to put away, but one has to seriously look at their finances to see if LEGO investing is a prudent choice of wealth management. As for your whole rant about me insulting a particular member, without actually mentioning someone's name or specific activity...just stop there. Please. No one person was pointed out in any way. Stoltzj77 made the comment that brought attention to himself. I was responding to a generic response from waddamon that didn't mention names either. If your reading comprehension is weak, then maybe you should reread the thread to see where I insulted any one person directly. I didn't. Let me apologize once again to all of you flippers out there who chose to sell this set for $700 or less. I'm so sorry for calling you brainless. There, are you happy now? Please go back to your SOLD OUT/CALL FOR AVAILABILITY discussion...

  13. So I was at my local target in Richmond, BC and saw pretty much all Chima 50% off including cragger command ship (49.99), combat lair (44.99), etc. Select Ninjago sets were 50% off too, like Garmatron for 24.99. But... YMMV

  15. Of no significance I'm sure but I just scored 2 SSDs from LEGOLAND discovery gift shop in Chicagoland. They got 4 in today (I had put my name in for them to call me if they got more). They put one on hold for me and one was left on the shelf. It is possible they have another one or two in back, might be worth a call if someone is a Chicago BPer.

  19. Didn't you say the same thing when everyone was offloading their Crawlers to a certain schmo for $500 each? It may end up looking stupid if TLG does not ship future batches of SSD to ******. America, but if they do it will look genius. Either way it is probably smarter to let someone else make the disparaging remarks rather than one of the site owners, especially when there is no confirmation whatsoever that TLG intends to hoard the new run of this set for Europe and Asia only (infact I would guess ******. America gets the lion share of 10221s after August).

  24. I've built set 7782 The Batwing: The Joker's Aerial Assault. It was released in 2006 for $39.99, contained 528 elements, and included 3 minifigs, the Batwing (prob inspired from the 1989 film), and Joker's helicopter (also inspired prob from the same film). A stand for the Batwing was also included that nicely integrates w/ the 7783 Batcave.7782's minifig to plane size comparison.Anyway, I've finally had a chance to buy this set (no box) at a decent price. I didn't take pics of the build process but did make some notes. Like most vehicles from the Batman 1 line, the main colors are mostly black with some dark bluish gray. pearl gold grills / vents are also used on the vehicles. Continuous Bow and inverted arch elements are also used which haven't been used yet on 2012 or newer Batman sets. These in black were used also in sets 7783 (Batcave's Batblade) and 7784 (UCS Batmobile). What really surprised me about set 7782 was the size of the vehicles especially when compared to the 2012 version (set 6863 Batwing Battle Over Gotham City). 6863 also looks to have been inspired by the 1989 film especially with the black colored Batman minifig. 6863 retailed for $34.99 with 278 elements.6863 also included 3 minifigs (updated versions of the ones from 7782), the Batwing, and a Helicopter for the Joker). 6863 seems to be more kid friendly when playing / swooshing along in the air. This was at least the case with my son.Minifigures from both sets are awesome. I assume 6863's minifigs would have the edge due to the newer designs and colors used.Size differences.7782 Batwing = 10" wide and 15" long. nearly as high as the Black Pearl when on the stand and even longer than the latest non-UCS X-Wing (9493).<p>6863 Batwing = 8 Other build review threads. 7780: The Batboat: Hunt for Killer Croc : http://www.brickpick...-croc-batman-1/ 7782 The Batwing: The Joker's Aerial Assault : http://www.brickpick...arison-to-6863/ 7786: The Batcopter: The Chase for Scarecrow : http://www.brickpick...-for-scarecrow/ 10123: Star Wars Cloud City : http://www.brickpick...ars-cloud-city/ 10173: Holiday Train : http://www.brickpick...-holiday-train/ 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon : http://www.brickpick...lennium-falcon/ 10226 Sopwith Camel : http://www.brickpick...-sopwith-camel/ 10181 Eiffel Tower : http://www.brickpick...l-tower-advice/ 10194 Emerald Night train : http://www.brickpick...-emerald-night/ 10196 Grand Carousel : http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/13647-building-10196-grand-carousel/ 10225 UCS R2D2 : http://www.brickpick...0225-ucs-r2-d2/ 75059 UCS Sandcrawler : http://www.brickpick...59-sandcrawler/ 21021 Architecture Marina Bay Sands http://www.brickpick...rina-bay-sands/ 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 : http://www.brickpick...busters-ecto-1/

  28. You are taking a harmless sarcastic joke by Ed way to seriously. It wasn't even directed to you personally so I don't know of why you are getting so bent out of shape. Also none of us have ever attacked people who choose different investing strategies. We are a tight nit group here and every members comments and investing strategies are welcome here. So really man just lighten up a little. You are taking it way to personal.

  29. I am on record supporting fees for this site. This is a great site and I hope it continues to grow and provide the great services that brought me here. Which is why it is so disappointing to hear moderators and even a site owner express disdain for people like me. My goals and strategies are different than a pure investor's, and if that means I'm not welcome here then so be it, I can leave. I'd rather not, but I can. It's not a threat as I am not in a position to make threats. It is just a statement - if I'm not welcome here because my goals aren't the same as yours, I can leave. And being called brainless or told that my strategy is stupid does not make me feel welcome. Bottom line is, everything you said about the site is true - and since revenue is so important, I am curious as to why people like me who faithfully contribute to the site's revenue streams (and are willing to go even farther by paying for a subscription) would be treated less than, shall we say, civilly. Having spoken my piece, I will now retreat into my loser brainless directionless hole and leave all you smart savvy people to your smart savvy business.

  31. Why can't you contact Apple and have them freeze the funds from that code? Report it stolen. You have the numbers, and they will be able to trace it to an Apple ID, if it was used. Provide Ebay with that Apple ID, and maybe they can bust the guy.

  34. IMHO you guys should already be charging for access to historical pricing data (and it would be nice if the members-only forum was also tied to a subscription). Some folks may share even more information if it is a smaller audience with a barrier to entry. I would be willing to pay $5/m or $50/yr for premium features. You would need to prioritize price guide updates, but with folks paying for it, that should become a priority anyways. Perhaps a poll of the current members to find out 1) if there is demand for a subscription model 2) what features they would expect for a paid model, and 3) what they would be willing to pay. By waiting to do what seems to be the inevitable, you're basically leaving money on the table. You have 30k members? Monetize! As you have clearly stated and we all agree, there are massive benefits to the information on this site. It is valuable. Just my $.02
