  1. Well a lot has been going on in the past 24 hours. Certain things are still a mess and I still have a bit of clean up to do. I don't believe that the site has propagated around the world yet, so there are probably a bunch of users that are not able to see the site yet. Hopefully by tomorrow, that will be done and everyone will be back on. Even though things aren't the way I want them, this becomes a good time for me to start making changes that were planned in the future. Here are a few updates: eBay/Price Guide Data: Well I finally learned that the main eBay site and all of it's global sites did a bunch of category changes and did not notify it's third party companies like Terapeak. We are not the only ones that are waiting on data. I was told it is of course a top priority and I will let you know when I actually get it. Brickpoints: Ed and I have decided that we will be discontinuing the Brickpoints program. Brick Classifieds will not rely on Brickpoints. For those of you that are over 5,000 points, we will be in touch to give options and claim some set, gift card or something you will appreciate for all your hard work. Wordpress: I officially hate Wordpress Wordpress has been hosting our blog articles, but it has been a nightmare with the logins and just an extra added server and cost. Blogs will be converted to a simple CMS that I have created and content will created by a group of editors. Moving forward, we will be working on focused content. Brick Classifieds: I need to settle this server stuff first, but I think there may be a shot that a few may get access at the end of the week or next weekend. Site Update: For a while I have been working on a site update that will focus more on what people come here to see and getting it ready for the classifieds. We know most are interested in The forum, Daily Deals, other discounts, classifieds, Brickfolio, etc. It will be more simple, easier to view on mobile devices and by removing some of the extra stuff it should be a more enjoyable experiences. Now will this server blowup, you might start to see some of these updates creep their way in sooner rather than later. We appreciate everyones patience.

  7. Agreed. In fact, I think I would argue that there are more HH's, FB's, etc. than many medium-ish sets. The market is way oversaturated. There are more SSD's in the hands of investors than people who actually would build the set for a post-retirement price of $800. I see it at $700 tops in three years. You could make double that on the same investment on smaller, rarer sets. For the HH, I don't think the Monster Fighters theme has much to do with the relavence of a single set. If that arguement is relavent, then we could also argue that ever set released in a certain year has to retire at exactly the same time, which obviously isn't true. I think the HH can survive on the normal consumer's market WITHOUT any of the complementary sets. How about a comparison to that Vampyre Castle craze late last year? Yes, that worked out well. Lastly, do not, do not, do not, trust what a LEGO Store employee says, nor what a Discover Center employee says. They know just as much about retirement information as you do. I thought the forum learned that from the 3 years of forum conversation about the Death Star retiring.

  8. I am not arguing against your point that the reselling supply is going to be mammoth on this set. I am pointing out that the idea of HH going this year is quite ridiculous. I agree wholeheartedly the days of 2007 returns are long gone for a variety of reasons.

  14. This thread will be like my previous builds (links below). Intro : While my last building post was a poll about which set to build next, I couldn't help myself. I wanted / needed to build the Lego Ideas 21108 Ghostbusters set. While I'm a bigger fan of Back to the Future films, I did watch Ghostbusters in a theater w/ my father and enjoyed . ...I'm also not going to surprise anyone by publicly stating 21108's design is far better looking than 21103's DeLorean. When the Ghostbusters set arrived, I immediately wanted to open it while my 21103 DeLorean sets are collecting dust still sealed. I'll will walk through the building process, take pics, discuss various topics like elements used / how, and provide a recap. There are 58 steps with many of them having multiple steps. Bricklink's element inventory of this set pending approval. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=21108-1 This set comes with 6 bags. Since many others have already written details about the box and manual, I'll skip that here and suggest checking out tormentalous' review at http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-ideas-ghostbusters-ecto-1-21108-review/ which has many pictures. note: I am using the PDF version of the manual and find it difficult for viewing. The page quality is "so so" when zooming past 75% and the book's black background doesn't provide enough contrast. Getting ready for the build. View of the minifigure stand w/ only 1 side complete. Front and rear views of the minifigures while on the stand. With the proton-backs on, the minifigures tend to flip the stand backwards unless each fig's torso is titled forward. Excellent use of elements here (the rare 1x1 round dark red stud w/ a hole, black lightsaber hilts, whips, and the round 2x2 rounded bottom printed plate). Picture of Ecto-1 after completing step 10. 15. You have to give us time to implement ideas. All listings will be free in the beginning and we need to see how everything goes. The more of a success it is, the more we can do. We just need it to be simple for new people finding the site.

  20. I haven't been around for just more than a year now, but its obvious you have been around a lot less. This literally means nothing. Stuff goes in and out of stock constantly, becomes hard to find constantly. it doesn't mean crap. Here are some examples: 1. Batcave near the end of last. Gone everywhere well before Christmas. None at Lego stores, none at Walmarts or Targets. Price rose to $115. Back in full style now at literally every retail place. 2. Architecture Studio - obviously. 3.Whats happening now with the Mars Rover 4. Whats been happening right this moment with the SSD yet it comes back. 5. Ahemm... Jabba's Palace anyone? 6. Cat woman cycle. There are countless more. It just literally means nothing. Its still online, you can still purchase it from literally every retailer out there. Could it be gone this year? Certainly. Is there any likely sign? No. Not one. You know why? Because they don't exist anymore. Until "retired product" (and there are some people that would argue even against that) is on a set. You don't know.

  21. Ill hold something 20 years if it keeps growing by 20% a year. I actually agree with djiim in the fact that most people only hold stuff for 1 - 2 years. But that is really only because in most cases it makes sense. There are so many new sets, new winners, etc. you only want to hold stuff as long as its going to keep growing. Example: If you have sold any of these sets before now, you lost money: 10179 Falcon (This is on the edge. If you got 3 grand for it, thats hard to argue with) Cafe Corner Market Street Grand Carousel Taj Mahal Eiffel Tower If you still have these sets, you probably should have already sold them: UCS Xwing, Star Destroyer, Death Star 2 Just a few examples. Thats why I have already sold 75% of my stock of Wolverine and Hulk sets even though they have only been gone less than a year. But I will hold Helms deep and the other LOTR sets for 2-3 years. I might hold the Bwings I have for 5-6 years.

  22. Released Sept. 1, 2012, nearly 2 years. The point still stands - lots of investors love (and have been hoarding) this set. This seems pretty speculative. You could be right, but in the end I think it's still a numbers game, especially if you're expecting CC or GG type returns. The more sets there are out there, the longer they will take to appreciate. The more investors that are hoarding this set, the more investors there are willing to hold these for more than two years.

  23. There are many people that have large HH stashes trust me.

  24. You could be right but, of those 15 sets that have hit that mark, does the HH hold its own as far as build quality, displayability, size, & general appeal? IMO HH has all the right stuff to make it a contender. It is at least as awesome as any town modular (having built 4 so far myself), and when you compare it to something like Cafe Corner, which has literally no details/playability inside, it blows that set out of the water. How much does CC sell for today? Let's fast forward 5 years, you're an AFOL who recently emerged from the dark ages, you want to collect old sets you missed out on. you like the modulars. you're deciding if it is worth it to spend $1000 on HH or CC. Which are you going to pick? Consider what you get for the $. I'm going with the HH every single time. Dunno about you guys. Curious if others think this makes some sense as I am also just speculating.

  25. I live next door to their physical shop. They had Ecto-1 2 weeks before release. This set is also available since 27th of May and costs 29 490 HUF, so it should be around 100-120$. Here is their facebook page (obviously hungarian), they regularly post photos and price of their new acquisitions. https://www.facebook.com/kockalego?fref=ts

  46. Hey man, congrats on completing it. It's a truly massive awesome set to have. I have mine permanently set in my spare room on a tv stand. I am jealous that you did get the sticker though . I haven't been able to drop over $200 for one yet. Now as far as your note, those 2 metallic studs actually go underneath the clear dish that are the lights of the mandibles.
