  1. I am sure others of you have done this that have sold longer than me. Ebay called me to set up an appointment with a "highly trained Ebay Sales expert" that would help me and tell me abotu my listings, how they could be better, how I could continue as a seller in the best regards and yada yada yada. So I thought - well why not? I knew I would probably not get anyone who was going to help me with anything, but it was worth a shot. I had some pretty direct questions about some of the new changes, etc. and wouldn't mind hearing anyone's suggestions about my listings. Ebay has no shame. Though they propped this up as helping me sell to my best abilities, it was pure and simple a sales call for Ebay to sell me on upping my subscription and promoting their defect rating and other features. They gave me no personal advice and in fact didn't seem to care and just changed the subject when I asked about my specific listings. Maybe others had better luck, but I asked some rough questions after I realized it wasn't going anymore. Glad they were recording it - my "selling expert" got pretty frustrated and flustered even though I was cool as a cucumber. Defect Rating They pointed out most of my case issues were "not as described" and "not received" She told me I should make sure I describe my listings better. I told her that a lot of people just don't read and I sell things that can be misconstrued (no minifigure sets). I said that I thought it was weird I get penalized for them not reading and opening up a case even though I had never had a case end without resolution Her response was: Well we are trying to make it so that they contact you before hand with a note. I said: At this point we have established they can't read so how does that help? Why not make they contact the buyer first (i.e. a message has to be sent between parties before a case can open) At this point she ignored it and continued down her script She asked about why my items may not have gotten there. My response: USPS is worthless She responded: Oh. Well it seems sometimes packages are late. My Response: So again, does it seem right I get a defect for that? Shouldn't it matter just that I shipped it next day? She Responded: Well I am sure it wont happen enough that it matters... Listings I asked about listing improvements and she just mentioned no specifics (I should use big pictures, descriptions). I specifically asked about mine and she said "they look good right now". She told me I should use GSP. When I indicated why I didn't like it (none of my buyers like it), she told me that I was incorrect and buyers like it. She told me I should buy a higher subscription because I am close to having enough listings that it would even out. When I asked the benefits, she just said she would send me a link after the call (didn't). She congratulated me for being top rated and reminded me I would have to offer 3 month returns at Christmas She also asked me if I was planning on growing. I said no because I don't have enough time and she said that was unfortunate. We had a whole conversation (where she got frustrated) about the defect rate in general and the tracking and shipping requirements and shipping next day, etc. She basically deflected the questions until I asked a new one. Eventually 20 minutes into the call she just randomly transitioned into her ending. I waited for her to ask me if I had anymore questions. She actually didn't ask - just said thanks and got off. lol. Never got the email. So I know pretty much no more at all. Good stuff.

  4. "Thank you for your inquiry. We use eBay's Global Shipping Program exclusively to ship packages internationally, and have no control over the charges. Please contact eBay customer service if you would like to ask for a lower shipping rate. Thanks!" That's all you have to write. These folks just sometimes want lower rates than GSP can provide, but then you take all the risks of shipping internationally back on yourself. And other times, they are either hilariously unaware or like to pretend to be unaware of what it costs to ship (domestic buyers do the same thing) and hoping you'll fall for it. Don't fall for it. You have your policies in place, they can buy it or not. Someone else will if they don't. Edited to add: Oh yeah. And if other sellers were really cheaper, they'd already have bought it from them. More shenanigans. They're not trying to order from you cause you're the cutest (even though I'm sure that's true), they're trying to get the lowest price and being disingenuous about the "other sellers" they could supposedly be buying from.

  5. This thread will be like my previous builds (links below). Intro : While my last building post was a poll about which set to build next, I couldn't help myself. I wanted / needed to build the Lego Ideas 21108 Ghostbusters set. While I'm a bigger fan of Back to the Future films, I did watch Ghostbusters in a theater w/ my father and enjoyed . ...I'm also not going to surprise anyone by publicly stating 21108's design is far better looking than 21103's DeLorean. When the Ghostbusters set arrived, I immediately wanted to open it while my 21103 DeLorean sets are collecting dust still sealed. I'll will walk through the building process, take pics, discuss various topics like elements used / how, and provide a recap. There are 58 steps with many of them having multiple steps. Bricklink's element inventory of this set pending approval. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=21108-1 This set comes with 6 bags. Since many others have already written details about the box and manual, I'll skip that here and suggest checking out tormentalous' review at http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-ideas-ghostbusters-ecto-1-21108-review/ which has many pictures. note: I am using the PDF version of the manual and find it difficult for viewing. The page quality is "so so" when zooming past 75% and the book's black background doesn't provide enough contrast. Getting ready for the build. View of the minifigure stand w/ only 1 side complete. Front and rear views of the minifigures while on the stand. With the proton-backs on, the minifigures tend to flip the stand backwards unless each fig's torso is titled forward. Excellent use of elements here (the rare 1x1 round dark red stud w/ a hole, black lightsaber hilts, whips, and the round 2x2 rounded bottom printed plate). Picture of Ecto-1 after completing step 10. 7. They aren't true chrome like from the early 2000s, but it is basically a normal piece with chrome painted on, I don't think it is really molded into the plastic, but I could be wrong.

  9. step 55 of 58 complete. before beginning the roof, i wanted to show the "white wall" inspired tires / wheels and angled side windows. wow. what a great design and use of elements for these sections.

  10. Step 51 of 58 is now complete. Progress made on the passenger side. Similar to the driver's side with the exception of the hose clips and antenna holder. bumper, red light, and fin elements added to the rear. if you look closely in the picture below and my prev post, the steering wheel is moved to the left side by 1 stud (instead of the center as shown in the instructions). I know the minifigure can't sit directly behind it but the look is better.

  16. Welcome to Brickpicker! As for your personal survey, one of the main reasons I like this site is that as a family we are all into Lego. This site provides lots of good information to help feed/fund our Lego addiction and it also provides a good personal touch. Most of the people here are seem genuinely interested in being good people and not just squeezing every last cent from people. In fact, the Macks lead by example providing this website for free to their users. With respect to eBay .. I can't stand it lately but it's necessary evil IMO. Nothing better to take it's place but they sure are a greedy bunch (eBay and many of the sellers). I don't shop on Amazon (the Canadian site just sucks for product) but I do love Bricklink. I can't wait for the Brick Classifieds (I'm not quite ready to mass-sell my stock) as there are a few older sets I'm still looking for. I hope you enjoy your stay here!

  18. I built it last night. Here are my thoughts: Good: - Incredible detail. Its really nice looking and I think really does the car and the people justice - Box and the booklet are beautiful. I will be displaying both with it. - The car moves well and I think there is definitely some good playability with the ladder and ghost blasters, etc. Bad/not as good - I think the price may be a bit high. There are A LOT of small pieces. It doesn't seem to weigh any more than the delorean. I think $25 or $40 would have been better. - Small pieces = a lot of stuff can pop off while you are just carrying it because of the detail. I had to rebuild parts of it a couple of times. - This is the scariest, but I could be imagining it - haven't had a chance to check yet. I handle minifigures everyday parting stuff out. Like 20-30 and when I am opening sets, 100s. These felt weird to me. I immediately noticed I thought they were lighter and I thought they felt cheaper for some reason. I could have been imagining it. I am going to weigh them and take a closer look tonight (it was way late when I finished last night). Others feel free to inspect to make sure.

  19. not sure I get why people are advocating regarding locking threads. all retirement threads are purely speculative in nature . it is a GUESSING game folks..it is part of the fun. unless you are looking for a one liner saying TLG retired SSD, it is what it is . and the title says NEWS on the SSD, not SSD officially retired..
