  2. I just wrapped up another Lego Train Video. It wasn't as exciting as the Cargo Train, due to all three cars basically being the same thing, but it look incredible zipping around the track. The Trains Station is really great. A really fun build. Enjoy the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH-l9tQfsaA

  8. Knowing when retailers are out of certain items open a window of opportunity to exploit the shortage in the market, so much money can be made in a short period of time. Risky?? Very. Rewarding ??? Hell yeah. Now if you are sleeping on a set for years, it might not be significant to you . As far as eol guess, yes it doesn't predict anythin and nothing does till TLG slaps a retired tag on a product , other than that it is but a guessing game .

  9. I work a few minutes away from Watertower, so during the week I pop in there a few times. I have only stumbled onto a good deal a few times. They blew out the Lennox Lion chariot things one day for 70/75% off, so I grabbed 2. If you guys want any notifications for what they have there lmk and I can walk over during lunch.

  16. You mean Baxter's Robot Rampage? Yeah the page is there still but it also displays the "Sold Out" tag without any change of status which could very well mean the set is down for the count. Like the recent half off Desert Skiff, how many people actually managed to get any at that sale price? In any case, I can hardly wait to see how much either set goes for this Christmas. Now in regards to the overall topic, isn't it a little premature to write off the theme as an investment while every single set continues to be currently available in most stores and online? I can purchase all sets from the first wave off Shop-at-Home minus Baxter

  17. I hate to break it to many of you, but the ability to see how many sets Amazon had in inventory was always a worthless endeavor. What many assumed was Amazon's inventory of a set probably had nothing to do with real stock numbers or future inventory if more shipments were on the way. It makes for interesting discussion, but how many times has the 10188 Death Star gone down to zero in Amazon's history? At least 3 or 4 times that I know of and the set is still going strong. Judging EOL off of Amazon's inventory data is waste of time IMO. You are better off using a Ouija board.

  18. Two years after this theme has come and gone a lot of you will be wishing you bought more of these sets. While I haven't gone completely crazy buying them, I do have a decent amount of the first wave sets. Have these tripled in value once gone from the primary market like a few of the recent super heroes sets have? No, but once this theme is completely gone they will be in demand on the secondary market. Why? Because it's the turtles! They have just as large and dedicated a fan base as some of the main stream super heroes.

  19. I suggested this to Ed earlier today to have communities based on location where members can exchange which stores they got their deals from, meeting up and trading sets, etc. Based on my count, there are at least 87 Targets, 39 Toys R Us', over 100 Walmart's(lost count after 110), and 4 LEGO Shop at Home stores in Illinois. To start things off, I am usually in the Chicago area. I usually go to 4 Targets that are located near my house/school. They are: Chicago McKinley Chicago West Loop Chicago Mid North Chicago Near North Occasionally, I will go to a Walmart or two, and rarely go to the Lego Store because it is located in the middle of Downtown. For me, I like the Chicago West Loop location because it is new. Though all the Targets I have been to always seem to have understaffed checkout lines, I still enjoy looking on their shelves for anything that might have been misplaced. I believed that this is the location that has very organized Clearance shelves, usually with a couple employees lurking around ready to answer questions, or check the prices for stuff. While I was last at this location (Saturday), there were at least 20 Lego Heroica Draida Bay sets for about $4. I heard that Heroica was going to discontinue, so I only picked up a couple to sell immediately. Hope this theme of member location based forums grows!!!!

  25. Not much love for the classic Kings Castle. I still say you need to lay hands on a Taj Mahal, maybe once you get tired of 10179.

  28. ...there are still a huge number of people out there who doesn't know or care about the real value of the Lego sets they are selling/posting on CL... these people wants a quick sale and have their money right away... ...several years ago, I saw a listing for a Statue of Liberty (when the set was long discontinued)... the posting said complete with box... so I e-mailed the seller and asked her asking price... she said I can have it for $40, so I told her I'll take it... I was hesitant at first and asked several questions regarding the set... she said it was a gift to her son and that he lost interest after starting on a few bags... a few minutes later, she e-mailed me back and said that since it was a big set, she want $60 for it... I told her I'd still buy it... my biggest problem was that she was 2 1/2 hours drive a way from me but still willing to take a chance without knowing what I'm getting myself into... yet another e-mail from her later on, she said for an additional $20, she'll meet me closer to my location (now I only have to drive less than 30 minutes away), for a total of $80... I told her I'm fine with that... ...to make a long story short, we met, saw the set but couldn't tell if it was complete or not with the box in good condition... gave the $80 and thank her, and brought home the Statue of Liberty set... a couple of weeks later and after ordering $7-10 worth of parts from LEGO Shop at Home, I was able to finish and complete the set... as I always tell myself when dealing with CL postings, "you win some, you lose some"...

  29. Hi! I joined maybe about a month ago and have been perusing these boards every time I have a few minutes to spare at the office. Alpinemaps comment was funny. I have two kids so I definitely could relate. Hoping I can be a contributing member going forward, but I'm a small investor compared to a lot of members here.

  31. That wan't even top speed. Top speed I fear would throw it off the track. All the trains are that fast. If you can get your hands on an older Lego electric motor then you'll see some real speed. The high pitched whine is coming from the receiver. You can only notice it when the train is going slow. When it speeds up the train is louder and drowns out the pitched whine. I really like the train, but I'm not impressed with their wireless technology. The train doesn't seem to be as responsive. With electric you get 100 percent precision.

  35. I've been to this bar several times but have never seen these. Must be new. The owners continuously come up with clever ways to reference iconic 80's and 90's pop culture so this doesn't surprise me. There is a vending machine in the back with action figures in it for crying out loud.

  41. The R2-D2 has been out 2 years this month,Like I said before if the set is going to retire its usually at the end of the year, so the set is a good seller and if it is retiring it will be at the end of the year, so look I have 23 going for 30 or so but I see no reason to Panic, and I would rather go to the Lego store and pay the extra $8.00 or so tax then to order them from Amazon or Walmart as the chances are high that the boxes will be damaged. Do picking up a Droid once a month or so is a good idea as you want to have this set as a money maker down the road. Ed

  42. I received two boxes. One with vizslas in it and one with skiffs and death star troopers. Both were oversized. The box with the skiffs went to war with the troopers and the troopers lost.....big time. Almost smashed the box completely open. I called CS and the lady actually said, "Well when you put that much Dark side in one box bad things are bound to happen" L LEGO Shop at Home is going to send a replacement death star trooper box and said to just keep the damaged one. love lego CS.

  44. When the Millenium Falcon 10179 first came out I was like what da !@#$, $600????? That's crazy. Nevertheless I put it into my Amazon cart to see if it would go on sale and maybe I'll be stupid to buy it. After about a year after it's release I was reading and viewing other people opening and such on Youtube. I was like that's crazy spending 24-48hrs to build it. Then one day, Amazon had it on sale for $390 so finally bought it. I was so excited receiving it but I remembered it took 24-48hrs to build and I just had my first kid so I did the wise thing and put it away in the closest when I could find some alone weekend time to build it. 12 months later forgetting about it I noticed it was no longer for sale on Amazon but 3rd party people were selling it for $1000. Ebay was around $800-$900. I was like uhm I can't open it now since it appreciated plus I still don't have that much free time to build it. Two years later I looked it up and it was $2000. Now several years later and two kids and up to around $3500 I can never get myself to open it and instead I have to sell it. So excited when I first bought it and now so sad I'll never build it cause it's just worth too much money
