  1. I just finished my version of the Grand Emporium. I had to use 3 1/2 GE's for this building. My inspiration was a picture from the web: Especially the windows in the middle are very nice. But i wanted a larger MOC with 2 original GEs on the left and the right. (corner buildings on the left and the right, a straight building in the middle) The GE on the right is 100% a GE, the one on the left is almost original. I only had to change the roof, because i wanted to have the large windows next to the straight MOC windows. The straight MOC was build with parts from 2 GEs, especially the tan parts. I still have to build the interior of the straight MOC (maybe a restaurant?) Do you have ideas? Here are the pictures of my MOC:

  2. If things go right, I hope to be in Private Beta in about 3 weeks. I will ask the mods and some members that we know sell a lot and have inventory to help populate the site. I will listen to feedback and make changes where possible. Then open it up to everyone else.

  3. The World Cup excitement is growing so let's have a contest to predict the final 2 teams and winner! I will send the winner of this contest a 75021 Republic Gunship!!! To enter, post in this thread with the following: 1. The winning country 2. The runner up 3. Final score of the final match (tie breaker) 4. Pick the matchup of the third place game (last tie breaker) Example: 1. Iran 2. Nigeria 3. 5-4 4. Russia versus Algeria I'll paste everyone's answer in here in the first post as I get time. You'll be required to send me your name and address if you win but I'll keep it private. The final game is Sunday, July 13. Shipping disclaimer: I am shipping from the USA. This is an international contest but if shipping is extremely expensive to your country, I may ask for you to pay for part of the shipping cost via paypal. Good luck!!!

  4. Well I did say that the first tier could be like 10 active listings would be free. Remember, it's not just 10 listings then your done. It's an ongoing 10 concurrent listings, then another tier would be 100 active listings. If you sell 10 items, then post another 10, if you feel that you are going to go from 100 to 200 then you would go up to the next tier for a small fee. The goal Ed and I are trying to come up with once the classifieds are in full swing is to obviously generate revenue to back into the site. We need revenue to market the site to get more new users to see your listings. If we are too cheap, then how can I do Google and Facebook campaigns or offer affiliate programs to other sites. There is a lot to this. Remember, this is down the road, there will be an ample beta period for everyone to get a feel for the site and to get it set right.

  5. This is why polygamy should be legal. One wife doesn't like the LEGO collection? She's gone and you still have 4 more.

  8. Oy vey, you're not kidding. Between the Minifigures series and all the sets, I'm up to my eyeballs in Emmets! I'd rather have President Businesses instead as his suit has more usage for me in a cityscape ....like an army of attorneys. Or maybe undead brokers!

  9. Nice setup.. Much more simpler than what I had in mind ... Lol I'm down - although I don't know why you have to carry the entire cost on you own .

  12. I think this is a good approach. You and Ed should keep the payment system simple. That way you can focus on site developments instead of figuring out each nickle and dime from percentage based payments

  14. Wait! Before you close it (hope this gets in).. I guess this was hard for some people to figure out what they actually do. I guess they have no idea on how to figure out what their business is capable of. Jeff did ask for people to just go with it and pretend that things were good and it was time to make a decision. You don't need to know all the features for this discussion, just a thought. 1. Ed and Jeff have always been fair on what they do here. They give too much if you ask me 2. He said there would be a trial, so you will have a chance to see how it works without costing you anything. I am sure there will be ample time to see what happened 3. He is right, the success of this is not just about his the features it has, it has to do on how we are as sellers and our prices. They would be able to market more if we are good at what we do. 4. If you can't have an idea of how many items you "may" sell in a year, then maybe you should get out of lego investing. 5. He mentioned a possible free plan for low volume investors. You can't really argue with that can you? 6. For high volume sellers, even if the fee was $75, does that really crush you? I would say that there is a pretty good chance you will make that money back fairly quick if you are not pricing your stuff out of reach of people. 7. I personally would be fine with either fee plan, but to know that $75 is all I could possibly pay in commissions and the site takes off. Merry Xmas all year to me I know there are questions and mysteries on how this will do. I know some of us have probably saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars on their daily deals and other things. Chalk the fee up as a donation to the site to help it grow. We all win.

  15. Many of you are not reading what I said regarding the subscription. There will be a few tiers. We even talked about a tier that will allow people to post up to 10 items for free all year long. That will work for many of you that don't post a lot. If we charge $75 for unlimited listings and sales that works for the heavy hitters and then there can be plans in between. Some of you may be thinkings in all or nothing. That is not what I am saying.

  19. I feel this is a good place to post this. I discovered a book called '' don't sweat the small stuff''. I'm not a big reader by any means, probably read less then ten books in my life. However, I read this entire book in two sittings. And will reread periodically. It's really helped me in some life struggles lately. I really enjoy this lego community and the peoole here despite never '' knowing'' you all. The book can be had for pennies on amazon. I hope this is insightful and maybe one or two people here will pick it up.

  22. Army builders are those sets people just can't get enough of so this should be a good one in my opinion. The build is far from spectacular but it does seem as though the original intent by Lego was to connect a bunch of these together which goes back to buying a bunch of this one. The only bad part is you end up with a handful of Thranduils but I think a single negative is negligible compared to all the Mirkwood Elves, Gundabad Orcs, and exclusive Warg you get.

  27. Problem is, many people think that it is easy. I used to think it was easy until I got more involved with this site. My head would literally explode if I had to deal with Jeff's job. Bricklink 3.0 or 4.0 or whatever is a huge undertaking, but I really doubt the new programmers will care as much as Eric did...or Dan Jezek for that matter. Guys like Jeff, Eric and Huw from Brickset are rare. They actually respond to members and take constructive criticism. I get the feeling the new Bricklink developers will not.

  28. Army building sets are always a good choice. i think the most popular set from the last movie is the lake wood chase but the elf army set would make a good investment as well.

  29. OK, I have created a table and added it to Tom J's original post. It's sorted by set number. Keep posting more and I'll update the table at regular intervals.

  30. LEGO catalogs are not a good way to judge possible EOL dates. The 41999 was in the Fall catalog and we all know how that turned out. Until LEGO actually writes "retired product" on the set page, I would imagine any set could be produced and sold to the public. I guess what is convincing most people(myself included) of SSD EOL is the lack of inventory at any retailer, the OOS at LEGO S@H, with no dates for shipment and various other rumors circulating. If this was a CITY set, no body would care and the set would just fade away quietly, but because it is one of the Big Daddies of the LEGO world, people are paying close attention. Honestly, I hope it comes back into stock. I would like to buy one or two more. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  33. Come on people, just because someone gets cheap LEGO's doesn't mean they are stealing them. He could have won them in a poker game, they could have been gifts and he doesn't have a receipt to return them, he could be a Pimp and his Ho's pay him in LEGO, he could be a drug dealer and he trades his smack for Bricks, or he could have a great inside deal with someone. I get great deals all the time from retail stores. I am just patient and wait for deals. I'm also a Pimp.
