Jeff is friendly with Eric and is only letting people know of the situation. It is news and Eric certainly didn't come across as disgruntled. Disappointed maybe. Can you blame the guy? He kept that site running for years. On a personal level, what's with the hostility? I appreciate constructive criticism, but your tone of late is not appreciated. Apology accepted. I am a big fan of the old Bricklink. It was ugly, but it worked. Jeff had a relationship with Eric(as programmers usually do) and he helped Jeff numerous times. It was unfortunate that the previous owners of the site(family of Dan Jezek) were not very open to working with other websites, like us or even Brickset. Jeff reached out to this new "community relations" person, but did not get a response. Not even a "F-OFF!" I hope that their communications with members, customers and potential business partners improves, because so far, it has been subpar from the word on the street. The new Bricklink might have a flashier interface, but if the community and communication sucks, it will fail. Jeff and I wish Eric well...

The R2-D2 has been out 2 years this month,Like I said before if the set is going to retire its usually at the end of the year, so the set is a good seller and if it is retiring it will be at the end of the year, so look I have 23 going for 30 or so but I see no reason to Panic, and I would rather go to the Lego store and pay the extra $8.00 or so tax then to order them from Amazon or Walmart as the chances are high that the boxes will be damaged. Do picking up a Droid once a month or so is a good idea as you want to have this set as a money maker down the road. Ed

It is business, I could not agree more. Bottom line is if they can deliver, the increase in fees is justifiable. Take a look at eBay. All of the b*tchings and moanings on every fees increase and yet eBay brings the foot traffics so the sellers adapt to the increased fees. As long as the new BL can justify the new fees, they should be fine. To me, this time of uncertainty is the best time to introduce new competitions. So, if one of the Macks' goals is to compete as a LEGO selling platform, this seems to be a prime time to roll out the feature Jeff has been working on.

Yes, Emazers would agree on buying GE,SSD,Volkswagen Campers,Tower Bridges, all the stuff that should be done sooner than later. But usually lego Retires sets at the end of the year not in the middle of the year, so my guess is that the GE,and even the SSD will be around for a few more months, as for the R2-D2 as just being only 2 years old I would think it has more time, but its anybody's guess. so buying sets that are coming out this month or so for investment is a big mistake. You have plenty of time for those sets. From now til the end of the year I am buying these sets. 1-SSD 2-GE 3-Tower Bridges 4-10220 Camper 5-R2-D2 6-Pet Shops 7-Town halls 8-Even more DS 9-And a Batman Ayslum & Tower of Othanic here and there.

Depends what's in there but to sort into sets to sell will take forever and ever. If you have the time, potentially a lot of money to be had, but again depends on the sets. Generally goes for

Sad news from ERIC Admin Leaving BrickLink.com In case you don't know me, my name is Eric Smith. I was originally involved with BrickLink as the web host, starting back in 2001. I assisted Dan with 3 or 4 server upgrades as the site traffic grew and helped out occasionally with technical questions he had. It was exciting to see this site grow over those years, watching the number of users and parts climb each month. I continued hosting the site for Dan Jezek until he passed away in September 2010. I was asked to serve as BrickLink Administrator by Dan's family, in addition to hosting the site. The site saw an explosion of growth between 2010 and 2013, which was rewarding to see. After the site was sold in June 2013, both the family and the new owners asked me to continue in my role as site administrator to aid in the transition between owners. I wasn't sure how things would go, but I was invited to meet the new owners in Seoul in July 2013. At our meetings, they convinced me that they would be good stewards of the community that Dan built. Building a replacement site seemed like it was the immediate priority, and I was looking forward to providing guidance and serving as a user representative during this process. When the chief communications officer role was created in November 2013, the original charter was to serve as the liaison between BrickLink and AFOL groups, conventions, etc. While I continued to do my job as site administrator, this person managed to convince the site owners to put all customer service under the chief communications officer role, effectively demoting me from a role I'd been performing for more than three years. This change occurred in December 2013. I asked ownership several times for a reason for my demotion and was never given an explanation. This demotion and new organizational structure was announced back in December with a little blurb announcing the new customer service team. Since December, I have been relegated to supporting her team, which has grown to five people including her. These five people are now doing the same job I did, part-time by myself, for more than 3 years. My contract is up at the beginning of June and it has no automatic renewal clause. At the end of April, I contacted the leadership of the company to determine my status. My assumption was that the answer was that I was being let go in favor of her local team. Instead, the chief communication officer offered me only 10% of my current contract fee to help her team do my old job. It would have been far less insulting to simply not renew the contract. I'm a total box snob to the point that I'll take a risk on a seller with way less feedback. I also pay more for a good box - anywhere from 10% on smaller sets to 5% on larger (hundreds of $) sets. Sent from my iPod touch using Brickpicker

I think more need to be factored in than just box condition. Those who think box condition gets the highest priority: when you have a lot of competitors selling the same sets on eBay, then buyers will of course go for the mint box if the price isn't too much higher. Those who say box condition isn't a big deal: when the sets become rare and very very expensive (>500% earning) and you own one of the 5 or 10 sets on eBay, a different story. A $20 difference for box condition is huge for a $100 set but nothing for a $1000 set. I do not think the difference between mint/worn boxes goes proportional to the selling price.

You may have read that wrong, I read it that if he was being paid $1,000 before they offered him only $100 (90% cut in pay, not a 10% increase.) I've got no real feeling in the matter one way or another, I know no one involved and am not a part of that community. But as a software developer myself, if someone told me that they wanted to reduce my compensation by 90% but they would like me to still continue with a project/job -- I too would likely feel insulted. If they can't afford me any more, or would like to go in a different direction -- that's fine, tell it to me straight. If they want to offer me a retainer to be on-call as it were, if something goes wrong with the current system before the new one is live -- that would probably be okay, but I'd certainly want a very thorough discussion of what my obligations would be under that scenario.

Problem is, many people think that it is easy. I used to think it was easy until I got more involved with this site. My head would literally explode if I had to deal with Jeff's job. Bricklink 3.0 or 4.0 or whatever is a huge undertaking, but I really doubt the new programmers will care as much as Eric did...or Dan Jezek for that matter. Guys like Jeff, Eric and Huw from Brickset are rare. They actually respond to members and take constructive criticism. I get the feeling the new Bricklink developers will not.

You definitely took this the wrong way, wasn't justified. This was just arrogant, dumb and rude. At least you apologized which is kind of you. I think the post is fascinating and while I think the new Bricklink will probably be very good, it makes me wonder overall about the community there. Only time will tell. Some wills say Eric didn't do enough, but it was never his to do what he wanted to anyhow. Other people pulled the strings and paid him. Even though we don't know both sides and even if this is worded to favor Eric's side, chances are they could have handled it better.

I think it would be useful to print rare pieces. The technology will get better eventually!

One of my favorite builds. Great design, fun to build, the mech additions were fun too. Really enjoyed it. Not to mention the instructions are more like a Sandcrawler history book, well done!

Rebuild the set and take 12 very good pictures from different angles. Take the ship apart and put in zip lock bags. Look at sold listings on eBay and chose a good Buy It Now price based on past sales. Once it sells put in a good box and ship. In most cases when I don't have instructions I use ones found online and state that my buyer should do the same.

There are things in life to have anxiety about. Worrying about a couple of old LEGO sets losing a few dollars in value is not one of them. I doubt these sets will ever lose enough in value be worth less than what I originally paid for them. I don't recommend members to follow my method of never selling sets. To maximize profits, many of my sets should have been sold a long time ago. Remakes are new opportunities. STAR WARS remakes are welcome. Many older sets that were poorly done originally, are being remade into better sets. I have one old Jabba's Palace, but I have about 10 of the new ones. Bring them on.... I left everything on the shelf that wasn't at least 50% off. Edit: Except Chima. It was 50% off and I still wouldn't buy it.

The creator of the set released the plans to build the station house. I was showing my son the set and he said he didn't "get it", which is understandable since he doesn't have any experience with the Ghostbusters. I have the movies, but I questioned whether he might be a little too young for them. I did find season 1 of the cartoon on Amazon for $5, so we'll probably start on those.

I have done a lot of bricklinking in the past few months. My experience is that if you don't already have a lot of existing pieces to begin the project with, then it may be a lot easier (and possibly cheaper) to just hunt for a used set on ebay, especially most used sets include original user manual and a box which bricklinking does not. So the resale value holds better. For me it is cheaper to do bricklinking especially on larger set (1600+ pieces), because I already have tons of existing pieces to begin the project with. Most of the sets I have done with bricklinking are for personal hobby/collection anyway, so I don't really care about the user manual/box. Take Eiffel Tower as an example, I don't have most of the dark bluish gray pieces, especially the 1 x 4 fences. So if I ever want a Eiffel Tower, I'd just get it from ebay for sure. Currently I am working on Grand Carousel 10196, the pieces I acquired from Bricklink vendors so far cost around $150 (since I have most existing pieces already). I am still debating whether I should spend the extra $250 on those 8 stupid paper canopies, or I should just have my wife to custom make for me with fabrics. I am sure my wife will happily do it for me if that saves us $250 .
